I don't know if this made the national news, but there was a major train disaster narrowly avoided in Liverpool earlier this week. Part of a sheer wall in a deep cutting through the city collapsed onto the main line. A train was tootling along at 50mph with over a hundred passengers onboard. If the driver hadn't seen the warning and braked in time, the train would have derailed and probably hit the opposite wall at high(ish, enough to be deadly) speed.

Lucky.

BULL.
SHIT.

There's nothing the guard did that the driver couldn't - unless the guard was magically in all the carriages at once.

In fairness to the union, the article does talk about shepherding the passengers to safety and more hi-vis might help in the circumstances.

I'd heard about the incident but didn't realise the collapse happened whilst the line was in use. Still, anything that gets rid of Pacers can't be an entirely bad thing.

At the weekend, Brexit pulled a table on to her head, Trump split a lip after falli g on to a stone step as her tights are like a quiet cat on that floor, and MrsA fell down a flight of stairs. I, accidentally, found myself in a gun shop.

Staffordshire is dangerous.

Nay: Our little boy is teething. Eight back teeth all springing painfully forth at once. He's ok with it, mostly, because he is resilient like his Mama, but it is affecting his poor tummy. Careful not to be seen drooling, it has all gone tummy-wards. Nappy changes can be surprising, and sudden, and fraught.

This was never more true than on Saturday, when we emergency pulled over into a garden centre carpark to perform a nappy removal manoeuvre on the poosplosion in the back. Crouched over the back seat somehow (goodness knows how) we had to strip him naked and 80 wet wipes later he didn't have *quite* so much poo on him. But man, it was everywhere. So much so that he went home wearing only Russell's tshirt as a giant dress, and Russell had to drive home with no top on.

But yay: new shiny toofs?

I'm mostly writing this for Krazywookie to absorb for his future with Ewok (that's a thing, right? The littler furry things?) Anyway, learn from us. Don't make our mistakes.

Aww poor wee bugger. :luv: Izzy used to get hers in batches and had the same poopsplosion-reaction.

Can't remember if I've mentioned before but I used to use the big ikea facecloth/flannels as wipes because the texture catches more runny poop. Might help with the 80 wipes thing :DD

My wife has a right go a me today :(

She wanted to get tickets to see Eddie Vedder and Glen Hansard in Dublin. They sold out quickly.

So I bought her 2 online at several times face value plus booking fee.

She went metal when I told her the cost, I agree total waste of money for me, but she loves the music of these 2 ,Glen Hansard grew up where she did and whilst she doesn't know him, she went to the same parties before he was successful. So I thought I was doing a nice (and expensive) thing.

I just figured she really likes them so screw the cost, we will be tied up with a newborn most of the year so no holidays abroad to pay for this year.

Thankfully after her sister told her she is lucky her husband would do this, I got a kiss and a thank you when I got home :)

I have the same problem with Steps tickets... I'm not paying the resellers fee.

Never mind, Hanson are doing a tour which will be announced on Monday so we'll go and see them instead.

Yeah. I'm hoping Hansard will play Glastonbury as I'm not paying the extortionate prices.

Also, you're the reason nobody can get tickets for things any more :D

Oh shit, my wife tricked me with the same tour!

She was like "Do you want to go and see the Vengaboys?"
And I was like "Fuck yeah!"
And then she bought the tickets and told me they were supporting Steps.

Bitch.

I spent last night modding a Gameboy Advance. While I enjoyed doing it (even soldering the tiny wires) the results are a little disappointing. The screen is quite washed out compared with how it should look. After reading up on it, I may have to solder another wire in to help it along but I still don't think it will look as good as the Gameboy advance with the backlit screen.

As part of the new bathroom work we have had an electrician come in to move some lights and things around.

He also had to do some tests on the breaker box in the garage, it took him all of 10 minutes before he told me it was out of date, and dangerous.

He said cables to the mains meter were the wrong type and length, breakers were not labelled correctly (so you had no idea what you were turning off) and there were 20amp cables for sockets into 32amp breakers which means if you plug a 30amp device in then the cables could melt and or catch fire.

Also no earth to speak off, so £500 later all safe and fixed, he also put some spot lights on a sensor across the front of my house which is a great improvement.

Had an interview on Tuesday, confirming that I don't tick enough boxes to be considered for the single remaining post when our team is finally disbanded and we're all made redundant at the end of April. So that's a 'nay.'

Today I heard that I was the successful applicant for a new engineering job that's being created that I interviewed for last week, so I should transfer to that at the beginning of May, so that's a 'yay.' Unfortunately, the bonus on the engineering job is significantly less than on my current job, so the 'nays' win 2 to 1.

"A sum of money added to a person's wages as a reward for good performance."

I suspect you knew that, but it doesn't feature as part of your compensation package. In my case, it adds to my basic living wage to take me to an amount I can just about manage on.

I can apply for other jobs within the company, provided I have the required skills, but most of them require technical skills and knowledge that I don't have. Or I can apply for jobs elsewhere, but I think I tend to underestimate my employability. And another major factor is my age. I know I don't have to declare that on job applications, but if I get as far as an interview it's obvious that retirement age is not many years away.

The positive thing for me at the moment is that I won't be unemployed and I can still look for better paid work elsewhere while I have this breathing space.

There is one other slim possibility, which is that it may become apparent in the next few weeks that they need to retain two posts from our defunct team. M'colleague, who has landed the one remaining post (that he's currently doing anyway), reckons it will be way too much work for him alone. Considering that the company originally said there wouldn't need to be anyone working on that residual work and then realised they were wrong, it's just possible that when they start looking at the volume of work I could end up staying where I am. All the planning so far seems to have been a 'back of a fag packet' affair.

Don't see age as a negative. It can bring an employer lots of experience which can also be passed on to other employees who may stay when you have gone. :)

Well, my latest painting didn't sell at The Grundy Art Fayre. :(

But to be honest it was something I did to hang at home before seeing the exhibition was coming up and to be honest if it sold for what I put it up for I'd have been getting less than minimum wage for it really. :D

Can you post a picture of it? Always interested to see peoples paintings as I can't paint for shit :)

Nay for me is that large night in Soho eating and drinking with brother and cousins has been cancelled, my son is sick and needs Dr and my wife at 35 weeks pregnant is also ill and can't cope on her own. Tonight was supposed be last large night for a while due to 2nd child arriving

Yay is it would have cost a fortune with the usual drunken casino visit added onto pricey drinks and food, also was staying with my brother which would have meant I'd be home around 1pm tomorrow feeling like shit.

Disappointed but its the best thing to be doing under the circumstances

More of a Yay, then nay, but yay!

Spent the morning watching Moana, with my wife and all 4 kids, followed by pizza hut for lunch. (That's the yay bit) then on the way home, on the dual carriageway, at 70+ mph whilst changing lanes our rear left tyre blew! Still, safely home now, need a new wheel, but no more damage done!

Wow, glad you're OK! That must have been scary. Also, Pizza and Moana sounds awesome.

Sorry, only just seen this!

Here you go. Best picture I had of it from my phone.

Although Hollywood will tell you otherwise, a tyre blowing rarely causes any trouble, unless you're in the middle of cornering hard or something.

Mostly it's more of an "oh" moment.

I was going to make some crappy joke about him being a chef and not knowing much about cars, but I see he's done motor racing too, so I'd better not.
