Yes, but I was calling New Vegas's soundtrack rubbish compared to that of FO3.

Oh I see. Yeah, New Vegas' got a bit annoying. Johnny Guitar for example made me just want to cut my bloody wrists. I loved The Rues Brother's "I'm moving out" though.

BTW guys. I don't know if it's been posted or if any one else has noticed but if you go to Fallout4.com and pre order through Game it says "TBC 2015".

I was eating in a little french bistro a while back and they played 'I don't want to set the world on fire'. That was odd.

Did The Ink Spots write all of their songs with the idea that they could potentially be used in post-apocalyptic fiction? They all seem to fit absurdly well.

I think out of all of their songs I like "We Three" the best :)

Going back to the game. I'm starting to wonder if Bethesda have done a Valve on us. IE - pretty much finish the game and then announce it. Also this.

Though I can't vouch for its authenticity.

The trailer didn't make me feel overwhelmed at how innovative or incredible the gameplay or graphics look. Sure, it's a great improvement from the last Fallout but compared to other games we now have, the graphics really aren't groundbreaking and the character modelling and physics just looks a bit 'off' as usual. However, the thought of a new Fallout story, with new characters, which builds on the best bits of Fallout 3 and New Vegas makes me very excited. So the trailer only excites me because it seems to suggest more of the same and because of the meta, if that makes sense.

Absolutely agree with that. The really need to hire someone to get rid of the Bethedesa Mannequins style of animation.

Can't believe it's been 7 years since fallout 3. Feels like a couple max.

So glad it hasn't become a Assassins Creed yearly game. I'm ready to return.

That Reddit comment is interesting and generally sounds pretty legit aside from the idea of making a version of the last gen consoles and releasing that another year down the line. It's questionable whether they'd plan a last gen version at all but releasing it a year after the current gen versions is just bonkers.

That's pretty much what they did with GTAV, isn't it?

What is bonkers is the idea that the last-gen would have save import and the current-gen wouldn't. They'd have to actively put in a load of new content for the last-gen version to alter the world based on your FO3 choices, and that's just daft.

I do, however, totally want the idea of an isometric view to be true.

What's interesting is that the post was written 11 months ago yet she knew about the player character narration part. I've not really read on from there as if it is true it's one hell of a spoiler :)

Unless GTA V got a release for the PS2 and OG Xbox I'm not aware of then no?

I don't disagree that having branching content in one version but not the other would be bizarre; but they can hardly implement save import on platforms which for which Fallout 3 save games couldn't actually exist.

Yeah, but how's that the same as releasing a game for a previous generation of console after the current generation?

I thought you were objecting to the fact that it was a staggered release for another platform, rather than the fact it was the order of current/last gen. So the PC release of GTA seemed a valid comparison in that sense.

And releasing the last gen version later would make sense - it's not going to be the market you're targeting where most of your sales are going to be, so it's a lower development priority.

No, it was specifically the idea of doing this gen first then last gen a whole year later on I was on about. Your second paragraph even speaks to my reason for thinking it suspect; which is that a chunk of your market will have moved to the current gen platforms by the first release date and if you're not releasing for last gen until a whole 'nother year has passed then your market for those platforms has shrunk even further again.

Granted I genuinely have no idea what the split of sales for cross-gen games is between P33/360 and PS4/Xbone is at the moment but my instinct is that by the time the current gen hardware has been around for over two years you're not going to be making a whole load of cash on previous gen consoles.

Heh, although it's worth noting that all of the above was based on an initial misreading of that Reddit thing such that I thought the timeline had a whole year between the current and prev gen releases. I've no idea why I thought that and I realised on re-checking just there that I'd imagined it making a bit of a nonsense of everything I've just said! :belm:

My instincts tell me that previous gen consoles may still be doing a roaring trade in some areas of the world. This is however based on absolutely no research whatsoever but what I remember reading about the sale of PS2's in some countries long after I had made the jump to the 360 over here in blighty.

As a very rough indicator then this article has only 17% of sales coming from the previous gen consoles. That's only first week sales though so it's possible the split evened up as time progressed.

I was excited to see this on the Humble Bundle Store.

Right up until I saw £49.99p.

Fifty quid?! Fuck the fuck off.

Yeah but there's always the inevitable sale a few months down the line when it'll be twenty quid or less, and then stretching further out to the 12-18+ month timeframe, under a tenner or even under a fiver isn't an unusual price to see AAA games at.

Good, the last-gen consoles really need ditching now for games development going forward.

It's easy to see how game design has been constrained for quite a while now, especially by the RAM limitations which often led to small, segmented levels (Deus Ex HR suffered badly from this) or crazy streaming solutions like that required by GTAV.

I read somewhere that this is because each object has to be drawn in frame and then a texture applied, then any lighting effects applied. Given the huge number of objects in a given room in F3, that is many calculations to render the frame, then apply physics to it. Other games do things different, by having loot in a chest for example.

Fallout 3 looks very combat heavy in the trailer. I mean, how do you translate a quest into video?

I'm somehat awe struck. It definitely looks like a whole new world graphically. I just hope it's a very long game and they got to complete it fully without leaving some things unfinished like Fallout 3. Going stealth was probably for the best and I can just about forgive them :)

Surely this was always available, it was simply a case of packaging the mods as official downloads and giving them away. In fact, I don't see how MS cold allow this to happen in any other way, unless the strict rules for 360 have been relaxed for bOne?

It's great to see how they went from the "always-online" and "online-authentication" to this. Basically, it just shows that they're losing and are making an effort.

Got my pre order in for the pip boy edition for PC.

Game's website collapsed so I had to wait over an hour on the phone, then wait for a call back.

Still, it's ordered :)

I don't want an unkillable canine sidekick. The fuck am I, Tom Hanks?

Where has this thing for animals come from?

Fallout is an RPG and my person probably hates having a dog or something.

In case anyone hasn't seen it yet, the 'Fallout Shelter' game is available on iOS, not sure about Android. You're a vault overseer, putting your vault dwellers to work. Standard resource management stuff, but it's fallout, so yay.

That app connects to the pip boy so you can use it in game apparently. Then it dawned on me that I have a Blackberry Passport. I'll probably buy a Swees Android phone for that then :)

I hope they've used New Vegas' take on companions where you score XP if your companion kills something because Fawkes was an XP killing machine..

Looks like you can leave the dog at the garage should you want to go it alone.
