Or if your buying it because you'd like to get back to some multiplayer gaming , possibly with people from this forum then it needs to be PS4

Am I the only one that doesn't think this trailer looks particularly amazing? I'm intrigued as to what the game has in store for us (perhaps two storylines, one pre-war and one post-war) but I don't see why everyone's loving the way that dog looks.

And it clearly suffers from the same "rigid" animation issues that their engine always seems to suffer from.

Still most likely a day-1 purchase, natch, but I'm not seeing a particular improvement in the engine here.

And I must be going round the bend cause there wasn't anything in the trailer that made me think it looked amazing. I can understand if you like Fallout you'll get excited but, objectively, apart from the first bit with the dog and the flashbacks, it didn't blow me away with what was on display. Dog companion? Suit? Garages? Big ship town again?

Fallout 3 had a better trailer IIRC.

Yeah, Fallout 3's trailer was epic.

I do agree that it all looks familiar. Nuka Cola, Deathclaws etc. But it's made to coincide with the others. The major difference is obviously the location, which I'm pretty sure is Boston.

No, the trailer doesn't look particularly amazing, especially in the graphics department, but it's confirmation of a sequel, far along in development, to one of the best games ever made and that's why people are so excited.

Granted, but think how much better it could be if they used an engine that wasn't a steaming turd.

Yeah it definitely seems to be using the Skyrim engine or a slightly more modern version of it. Which would be quite dated now.

Fallout 3 was never the best looking game of the time. I mean, we had Crysis. However parts of it were so beautifully done that it brought tears to my eyes. As an example, you're walking through a bunch of brown burnt trees and grass and all of a sudden the sun comes in and hits you in the face, momentarily taking away the brown.

It was moments like that which totally made me forget just how dire the situation I was in was.

It looks about on par with COD Ghosts graphically. Not great but hey, it's a new fully unexplored Fallout game.

New Vegas was OK but once you started to peak beneath the surface it was pretty lame. The amount of buildings you could go into and explore in Fallout 3 was astounding, as were the sheer volume of mini quests. The Keller Transcripts was among my faves.

It's that content that takes time to code. FONV was a rush job and nowhere near as deep as FO3.

That's what I'd imagine we've been waiting seven years for.

Word from insiders is this advanced new version of the Fallout engine has doubled the number of hues that can be shown at once, to two hues.

I thought it looked pretty awesome. Loved the apocalypse in the trailer. It looks bigger and shinier than 3. More and bigger buildings and that. I'm definitely in.

DBSnappa, I have an Xbox One but I'm in the minority. If I had my way I would have gotten a PS4 but sadly my wife wanted an Xbox. It's really going to start be irritating when everyone here is playing The Division and The Siege online and I can't join in :'(

I hope Bethesda have at least learned a few lessons from Obsidian. New Vegas was just such a more nicely rounded world and crucially, made sense.

The Capitol Wasteland was still stuck in the Dark Ages 200 years after the bombs fell, and Bethesda's world designers didn't include any form of agriculture or sustainability in the world map, so it appeared (from all the boxes of Sugar Bombs and stuff around the place) that even 200 years after the war, people were still scratting around for scraps of food from the Old World - which I could well believe for, say, 10-20 years but not 200 - and of course, went against FO1/FO2.

The Mojave Wasteland, despite being set only 5 years after FO3 (subs please check) had had much more thought put into it by Obsidian, with farming and other means of food production/self sustainability included in the world design. It just made everything feel more real - humanity would be more then capable of rebuilding enough civilisation in that 200 year timeframe.

The trailer appears to be pointing in the right direction on this regard, there's a lot more vegetation for a start which hopefully indicates they've put more thought into how the world needs to make sense to the player.

It's all about atmosphere for me, you could sit there and pick holes in the world if you so wish or you could just allow yourself to be taken in by it. And in that regard Fallout 3 had something that New Vegas just didn't. It would be hard to pinpoint what that was after all these years but I know that it didn't grab me at all because I stopped playing it and never went back. The comparatively rubbish soundtrack probably didn't help.

You can't believe that? Washington DC has a population of around a million people. How many people did you see living in FO3's Washington? 100? Given the point of those food items was that they were totally imperishable, I can fully believe that a city's food stocks would be enough for the vastly reduced population to live on for that amount of time. And let's not forget tasty, tasty Iguana-On-A-Stick.

The Capitol Wasteland also wasn't huge. You could easily have Brahmin herders not far over the horizon, bringing food into the city areas.

Absolutely :this: . Who gives a shit whether the environmental factors were bloody modelled correctly! If that kind of thing ruins your immersion so much then you must have a really hard time finding any games to enjoy.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed FO3 immensely when it came out - and I didn't notice anything like that at the time. I could not go back and play through it again though after NV, where everything just seemed to make more sense and "clicked" more.

I guess stuff like that adds to the atmosphere for me

It's like the zombies in The Walking Dead two years after the outbreak that seem to have survived a couple of winters despite this being impossible. This stuff is important when you're trying to create a complete and cohesive alternative world. It has to make some sort of sense.

Doesn't mean you can't enjoy the game/series/film/whatever, but it's acceptable to ask questions about stuff like that.

Yeah. When I played FO3 for the first time, it's not like I was walking through the wastes going "But there's no arable farming! IMMERSION RUINED."

At that time, FO3 was the most immersive gaming experience I'd had. I was enveloped by it, and apart from the frankly ridiculous ending (pre-Broken Steel, I mean) I loved every minute of it.

This is Fallout. It's not a serious drama. It's packed full of things that are deliberately outright ludicrous, and always has been.

To be fair, FO3 was set in a major target area... It would have been harder to get back up and running there. The Mojave less so and it was protected by Mr House.

NV was way more interesting... Everything tied together with the main plot line. FO3 felt more like an episodic tv show.... 'last week in the Capitol Wasteland: we cleared out a bunch of giant ants. In this week's show, we meet two wannabe superheroes'

That's probably why I think it's rubbish.

Then again I loved Borderlands 2 and that's bonkers.

We can only conclude that Fallout isn't great.

Certainly the trailer for Fallout 4 induced nothing other than boredom for me before its three minutes were up.

Impressive. You have managed to reach a level of wrong somewhere approximating what you'd get if you multiplied Mr Chris and Nirejhenge. That's some going, there.

Hmm, that trailer didn't make me engage my HHYPE MODE at all. Uh oh.

It doesn't look like the leap I was expecting in a next gen Bethedesa game. They are such dead places, with so little sense of actually existing. If that makes sense.

I'm sure that with some gameplay footage I'll jump on board the HYPE TRAIN. Fallout >> Elder Scrolls.

The trailer didn't make me feel overwhelmed at how innovative or incredible the gameplay or graphics look. Sure, it's a great improvement from the last Fallout but compared to other games we now have, the graphics really aren't groundbreaking and the character modelling and physics just looks a bit 'off' as usual. However, the thought of a new Fallout story, with new characters, which builds on the best bits of Fallout 3 and New Vegas makes me very excited. So the trailer only excites me because it seems to suggest more of the same and because of the meta, if that makes sense.

The comparatively rubbish soundtrack probably didn't help.

:o

Wash your mouth out with soap !! Fallout 3 had the best soundtrack ever !

In fact it opened up a whole new world of music to me. After playing the game I decided to download a load of Cole Porter's music (mostly written, he only ever sung two songs that I can find) and now it's a huge part of my music collection. On my wedding day I had "You're the top" played as my wife walked in :)

We both love that sort of music though. Most of the day we have The Ink Spots playing or something from that era :)

Over at the Nexus there's a GNR Enhanced mod which adds a gigabyte of 40s MP3s to the playlist. Sheer heaven :D

And Hearthly. We get it mate, you don't like it. Please don't obsessively ram that home. I've been waiting seven cold, dark long years for this game.
