The best games on PS4 at the minute are also on PS3 or 360. I only got one because a bloke at work was selling his son's for reasonably cheap. I can't recommend one at the minute, especially when you can get a PS3 and play all the exclusives you missed for about £100 at the mo.

But hey, if you want shiny then go ahead. Make sure you have a TV that outputs 1080p though. I just upgraded as my 720p TV made everything look last gen.

Worth keeping an eye on Savygamer as sometimes he will cover stuff for Europe - you could also watch the neogaf 'Europe' cheap thread which is here : http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread. ... 08&page=22 they do cover offers in various countries - its very UK centric but they do cover most of Europe if there is something special

According to Metacritic (so take with a small pinch of salt), the best retail games that are out for the new gen only seem to be the new Dragon Age and Far Cry 4.

I notice you clarified with 'retail' so you can avoid Resogun :-)

Here is the Metacritic list for PS4 :

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/ ... ?sort=desc

And I thought Dragon Age / Far Cry were getting 360 / PS3 ports ?

Nickachu doesn't seem to be interested in many download-only games, so I stuck to retail. Resogun is excellent, though.

It seems you're right about Dragon's Age and Far Cry. What does that leave us with then? Resogun and LittleBigPlanet 3.

-edit- nope, LBP 3 is on the PS3 too.

Many of the cross-gen games look like and often play like shit on the old console, though. I don't see "not a next-gen exclusive" as being a reason to avoid a game.

Don't Starve is PC as well, but fair enough. I was leaving the indies alone for now, even though I'm getting a lot of fun out of Surgeon Simulator at the moment. It's perfect for the PS4 controller, weirdly!

Basically :this:

There are some which are obvious ports but in general there are 'extras' having the game on PS4 and XBO even if its just down to number of players , better framerate , better draw distance , etc

Personally I thought PS4 COD:Ghosts was almost identical to 360 but it did allow more players on each team

Not sure there's an obvious category name for it, but the studio that made it is a NewsCorp subsidiary, which means it can't be described as independent.

It is a good game though.

That's naughty. Like Hardy and Hanson sticking a neon label on a bottle of beer, making up a brewery subsidiary and calling it 'craft beer'. I disapprove.

To make up for it we get another upgraded version of a great game

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/12/ ... 5_36775187

Quote:
Super Stardust Ultra unveiled for PlayStation 4

An explosive new outing for Housemarque’s classic shoot ‘em up series

Hi PlayStation fans. I’m excited to announce that Super Stardust Ultra is blasting its way onto PlayStation 4!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Super Stardust series, the critically acclaimed Super Stardust HD by talented developer Housemarque was originally released on PS3 in 2007, followed up on PSP and most recently on PS Vita as Super Stardust Delta in 2012.

This timeless shoot ‘em up has you pilot a start fighter in the depths of space, defending planets against the onslaught of enemy attacks in the midst of a deadly meteor storm. Your mission is simple, use split second timing and pure arcade skill to make every shot count and destroy everything in your path.

Super Stardust Ultra, has an array of new planets, glorious visual enhancements, and includes no less than nine different game modes, including new modes and established favourites from the series and its’ various add-ons.

With the PS4′s socially connected features, you can now show the world your skills in the new ‘Interactive Streaming’ game mode, letting your viewers vote periodically to change up your gameplay as they watch.

Because Super Stardust has always been about achieving high scores, we have added the feature that allows you to directly send and receive challenges from your online friends; or you can simply compare your scores across the global leaderboards.

If you don’t fancy flying solo, you can also compete against friends in 2-4 player split-screen battles or team up in co-op mode.

We have ensured that Super Stardust Ultra brings the spirit of Stardust to the PS4 with new features, new gameplay, incredible depth and variety, and the best graphics possible, making it the most definitive and best version of Stardust ever!

Yep, same developer too. They've done Stardust (A500), Super Stardust (A1200), Super Stardust HD (PS3) and Super Stardust Delta (Vita), along with Resogun (PS4) and Dead Nation (PS3/PS4).

I bought it when it was on sale for £13 and I've barely touched it. Oh well!

Just travelled 200km away from home, and then used my Vita to turn on my PS4 and play geometry wars 3 and far cry 4, without any (noticeable) lag and in perfect quality. Unbelievable how well it works.

That's the bloody future right there, and pulls the rug out under the WiiU to a large extent.

The only slight flaws are:
1) I've got to ring the wife if I want the disks swapped (and I'm not sure she knows how to eject, due to those touch sensors)
2) the back screen touch pads do not work well as a replacement for L1/R1 (but the front screen does a much better job).

I don't think anybody cares about the second screen on the Wii-U these days. It's all about the software. Also that's a pretty high cost of entry compared to an all in one Wii-U.

Don't get me wrong trousers. The WiiU in genuinely the best next gen console. By a huge margin.

By what metric? "Plays Nintendo games" I'll grant you, but "likelihood of enjoying a long and fruitful life of third party dev support" doesn't favour Nintendo at all. The Wii-U is going to be starved of games even more than the Wii was, I reckon.

It's genuinely the best console because it has the best library of games right now. If anyone was asking me which console to get someone for Christmas this year, I'd say a Wii U.
