It doesn't fire on all of its cylinders all of the time, but it followed through on its convictions right to the end and ended up as a genuine tragedy I think, albeit one with many dark laughs along the way - you kind of know where it's going to end up and that's what made it so sad in the final analysis.

I find Chris Morris' work harder to watch/listen to as I get older, not because it's any less brilliant, but because I increasingly realise how painfully close to the truth he gets and it's not always a comfortable realisation.

But yes, a fine film, and superb performances all round from the cast.

Just finished watching Prometheus and actually really enjoyed it. The characterisation was all over the map--not least the engineer--and the 'why the fuck is that person doing/not doing that?!' factor was pretty high, but I was gripped by it pretty much all the way through. I'm trying not to think too much about it as I don't think it really stands up to much analysis; unless a sequel comes along and works some kind of narrative fucking voodoo to tie it all up. I did like the concept of but it doesn't entirely tie up and seems more like someone thought it would be a cool idea so they found a way to whack it in there. I mean Although typing this up has made me realise that which really should've occurred to me at the time!

Yeah, having read a different list of the changes that were made it does seem like the original script would've made much sense of the character's motivations which was blatantly lacking in a lot of cases in the version we actually got.

Now You See it - This starts off promisingly enough, but then loses its way a bit. There's enough charisma in each of the characters to pull through the scenes, but I found myself a bit beildered as to what was going on for teh final two thirds. Stuff was happening, but there ws no real indication why it was happening. It was as if the film was originally written from someone else's viewpoint, and the reengineered to be more about other people, or they forgot an entire act. Anyway, it's compentently done and entertaining enough, if you take it on a scene by scene basis, and suspend your disbelief. However, if you want afilm about magic with Michael Caine in it, The Prestige is a much better bet.

I agree entirely about Now You See It; it was entertaining enough and did start strongly but it was pretty incoherent.

Under the skin was brilliant. Haunting and incredibly creepy, I will certainly remember out for a long time.

It's probably among my favourite films of the last few years.

Under the Skin is a film about looking at a naked/semi naked Scarlet Johansen, and then watching her pick up unsuspecting Scottish blokes to "Come back to my place".

It's boring as hell. I stopped watching half way through.

In other news, I took Zioette to see Maleficent today and we both really enjoyed it. If anything, I was even more into it than she was. Angelina Jolie is incredible in the role, but it's also quite a cool little twist on the plot of the original Sleeping Beauty. You can see the twist at the end coming a mile off, but it's not any less enjoyable as a result. Very impressed, definitely a future Blu Ray purchase (for when Zioette visits, obviously! )

I saw How to Train your Dragon 2 at the weekend with Shorts.

Whilst it looks good and has some better huge monster fights in it than Pacific Rim the funny bits are massively laboured and Cate Blanchett's Scottish accent is actually worse than Simon Pegg's.

If your kids nag you to see it I would just try and find another showing of the Lego Movie if I were you.

Rock and Rolla - If you set your expectations low you'll like this. It's amusing and wry enough, but has shades of the LongGood Friday about it. I say 'shades' I mean, it's pretty much "The Long Good Friday". Mr Madonna took the Lock, Stock characters, stuck them in suits and did gangster film.
