Is there very much a vanilla townie can do in this game beyond saying "I've been bitten" if they have been and "Let's lynch the bloke who's been bitten" if they haven't?

They can vote, get voted for, they can get bitten and they can tell people they've been bitten.
The life of a vanilla townie is an exciting one.

I think the refusal to use our only weapon makes us appear weak, foolish prey for them. There's no fight in us!

What more info will have tomorrow compared to today, except probably a dead townie and one who's half-way vampire?

"Oh, Derek's dead. Good thing we didn't lynch him!"

I really, really don't want to die. I just want to kill some vamps.

I know the odds would say we'd lynch a townie, but I think the chance of getting a vamp is worth it.

Also, I just have this strong emotional feeling that it's just plain wrong to have a weapon against the vamps and not use it. It just seems weak and feeble to me. This is a fight to the death, not some numbers puzzle.

(I suck at Resident Evil games.)

And finally, my brothers in other towns have stayed under the radar and kept quiet and tried to look at everything objectively and they've just died early. This time I'm going to have some fun, make some noise if I think I need to.

We are the town. We start this game with a clear advantage. But the longer the game lasts the more the that advantage fades. Hit 'em early, hit 'em hard, that's my philosophy.

I'm suspicious of a few people, but Mr Russ made an early impression. So I voted for him and haven't changed that vote.

The thing is the townies won't do nothing, they'll do various things at night. The _only_ advantage we have in a lynching now is that it's nigh impossible for the vamps to throw the vote. Not that they need to, really, the odds are 6/7 of us hitting the wrong target. Those are not good doos.

An unusual turn of phrase, Mr Dave, if that is your real name!

Well, yes, as I reportedly don't have a night action, so I could hardly include myself in a "We'll"

As as for Doos, well, I'm sorry.

Why is it so important to "move the game on"?

Why must this game be over by Friday? You going away.

If you want to nolynch, why not just wait till Wednesday and see what happens?

Sorry, I read it as you saying, 'they' and 'townies', implying you weren't a townie.

I have to say although not suspicious of people saying nolynch, I am less suspicious of those arguing to lynch, as it suits the vamps to not lynch - I think :S .

Ooohhh, I am confused.

I don't think it suits either side to lynch or not lynch, it just depends on who we end up lynching.
If we hit a vanilla townie, that's one less townie and one less potential vampire - not great for either side.
If we hit the sire or the childe, that's brilliant for the town, but the odds are low.
If we hit the SK, that's good for both sides.
If we hit either of the Van Halen brothers, the priest, the masons or the vigilante, that's great news for the vampires.
The loon and the psychiatrist are kind of on their own at the moment.

Look back at the mafia games so far, and think how much it would have benefitted the town to have a nolynch option. This game's a bit different, but the odds are still firmly stacked in us being our own worst enemy again.

I must have missed the Batman episode where this conversation took place:

Commissioner Gordon: Batman, we need you, it's that pesky joker again, but he's disguised himself as a member of the public.
Batman: Sorry, can't make it until tonight, perhaps you could get everyone to have a vote on who to lynch and if they get it wrong, I'll come and sort it out later.

Oh, fair enough.
*checks wikipedia*
Hey, there's no such episode, you rotten liar.

In fairness, I'm perfectly ok with lynching someone on the first day, just as long as it isn't me.

my travels are over for today, although I must view what's going on in the town through a magical 3 inch wide window.
So, are we not lynchin' then? I'll go with that unless there's a point to keeping it open for a while longer?
anyone not been around today?

For the reasons that have already been discussed.

The Vampires numbers will be the same tomorrow and we will have more information with which to make a decision.

I can't see a general consensus being reached for a lynch, even if we wanted one.

That's a 75% majority of folks who don't want a lynch and that's the end of the day.

Final Vote Update

mr russ: 2 votes (kalmar, the rev owen)
the rev owen: 1 vote (lacesensor)
nolynch: 16 votes (bluecup, bobbyaro, craster, curiosity, dimrill, grim..., joans, kevr, malc74, mr chris, mr dave, mr russ, myoptika, rodafowa, runcle, zardoz)

The villagers stand uneasily around in the small square in the middle of their tiny cluster of houses. It's damned cold out, and getting colder, and everyone is eager to return to their cosy homes. Despite some heated discussion it's clear no-one has any solid ideas on how best to proceed, so gradually the group breaks up, people returning to their homes one by one. But who will survive to the morrow...?

Can I please have all night actions in by a deadline midday tomorrow please. For the zero, one, or two Van Halens out there, don't forget to tell me ont only your chosen protected target but also if you are willing to die for them.

For those I haven't mentioned it to already in PMs and such, I am compiling an after-action report on the game I will make public once we're done. Amusing PMs and cool in-character stuff is ending up in there, so feel free to embellish your night actions knowing they will find a wider audience than your humble narrator.
