No idea. Malc first made the case for a random lynch: viewtopic.php?p=199655#p199655
and he was first to vote: viewtopic.php?p=199657#p199657
Grim... voted back: viewtopic.php?p=199659#p199659
and then I got involved: viewtopic.php?p=199662#p199662

Lots of "proof" there. proof that is correct, and completely un-needed. I think you might be one of the Lone Gunmen.

Precisely. 'Sounding a bit iffy' is as much as you get.

You were making a bit of a meal of a fairly innocuous post though.

If I could vote for both Mr Chris and Craster, I would do so right now. They've even brought their tedious squabbling into AlienScum. :(

I can assure you I wasn't, but there we are. I'd have a htink about whether there's actualyl anything connecting those peopel voting for Gaywood other than them voting for him.

Craster's deffo a baddy.

Note - I will be unavailable from 4 - 7pm today. Should someone reach the lynching number then please can a Mod lock the thread until I get back.

Cheers.

:)

(also, can a Mod tell me how to lock threads?)

Oh, one more thing [/columbo]

Is it just me or is it that every time we play this the people who get most involved on day one are all voted for lynchings? It's an incentive to keep quiet. Like, say, LS has.

Yeah. The more you play a Scum game, the less you end up getting to play it. If you see what I mean.

Everyone always says, "We should vote the quiet ones!"

But nobody ever does.

It's wrong, but it's always been that way.

Two? How so? Or do you mean aliens?

Scum = Aliens. See, there's a clue in the name of the game. :p

Because I'm happy to see both of them hanged, and DrG had a headstart. I'll not lose sleep if either of them are lynched, as I'm sure they're both bad 'uns.

If you were a good guy you wouldn't be sure of wanting anyone lynched yet, there simply isn't the information. You however are looking increasingly dodgy :) Keep talking!

today I've taken delivery of a shed load of furniture, and spent hours making it - so much so that my spare bedroom now looks like a photo from the ikea catalogue :)

Do we know that hanging the aliens will actually work? Perhaps they don't have their respiratory systems running through their throats, if they have throats. Can we just chuck water over them and hope they're the aliens from Signs? Or do we get to shoot them with big fuck-off guns?

No true. I'm a good guy and I want to see someone lynched, because that's the only real way we get information.

And because it's our only weapon. Without the lynch we're just sheep milling around, bleating and waiting for the wolves to eat us. And I don't want to wake up and find myself a puddle of goo or with my entrails on the ceiling and have done nothing.

Firing blind is better than not firing at all, because we need luck to win. The aliens have a huge advantage over the town right now and the only way we're going to survive is by getting lucky. And we can't get lucky if we don't lynch someone.

And, of course, it's not just the lynch but the voters, but on day one I doubt that says anything. The Scum won't all vote for the same person today. They never have in the past.

That's what I reckon, anyway.

My guess -

Half the aliens will be posting lots, the other half keeping quiet. The SK and Mafia Leader will be posting once every few pages, so they don't seem too quiet, but not enough to have a finger pointed at them. The FBI will be talking amongst themselves and not so much here. The Masons, likewise, though at least one will probably be one of the people who loves getting involved in these games so will be posting loads. Most of the people talking loads and pointing fingers suspiciously will just be townies wanting to exercise the small amount of power they have and willing to put themselves in the line of fire because they have almost as much chance of winning even if they die - and because the townie role is quite dull if you don't post.

I say we take off, and nuke the entire site from orbit.

You can't be sure about any specific people though, and that's what Chris just stated.

Quote:

Agreed. The town is always at the mercy of luck, so we have to gamble.

Yup, that's pretty much the way it goes I think. Any group that has a back channel (so to speak) for talking will tend use that and be a bit more guarded on here.

But even if you identify someone who's normally talkative but keeping quiet this time, there's as much or more chance of them being a Mason or Fed as an Alien.

With those numbers that makes a good case for random lynch. Just over 50% if we got maximum numbers of roles. You can't say you wouldn't take a coin flip if it was slightly in your favor.

Although I only count a maximum of 7 baddies at the moment.

Actually come to think of it, maybe he's Mulder - anyone we go for could be the benevolent alien. A small chance, but it would be game over for him!

Hmm. Do we really want Mulder around...

Well, we could try to change that.

Well, we could try to change that.

Zaphod, for instance, has not posted since page 1, and he's usually a bit more vocal in these games.

I really, really take issue with this way of playing.

So what's the alternative, everyone seems to accept scum will hide by being quiet? So you vote for someone quiet, especially if that's atypical of their personality.

Which bit's the problem?

I think, and I don't want to put words in Grim...'s um keyboard, but I will, he meant the: "X usually plays like this, but this time he's playing like that, he must be scum"

Yeah, it's a bit 'meta'. Also, as I pointed out, it doesn't tell you who's scum, it only tells you who is in another "group" (bad or good) and are therefore busier chatting and watching from there.

Surely it's down to the timeframes. Someone being quiet for six hours of play during worktime can be down to all sorts of real life reasons and so is not a great reason to draw any conclusions, whereas someone being quiet for days on end is more significant. We do have no-worktime-Beexers playing these games who might end up feeling rather excluded if we follow this logic to the extreme.

I think Zaphod mentioned he would be less active this game, and a quick search suggests I am correct:

And those who first suggested lynching random people... baddies the lot of them!
(Especially that Dr G bloke.. eyebrows meet in the middle... eh? eh? EH?)

With those numbers that makes a good case for random lynch. Just over 50% if we got maximum numbers of roles.

Not 50%...
max(?) 8 out of 23 are scum, so the chance of getting a scum with a random lynch is only 34.8%, and a 65.2% chance of killing off a goodie.
Hmmm.. unless of course your statistics are completely ALIEN!!

But at the same time, voting for a nolynch when we're stuck in a position that we really need to learn something from a lynch makes you look dodgy.

So, with the lack of anything other than hunches - [vote:Mr Dom]
