Yip - if nothing else he's been entertaining , some of the 'jokes' can be taken to literally and his "confession" yesterday I think is going to be enough to damn him today

Seconds are fine - any reason why it doesn't sync with some NTP service out there ?

And things are just confusing for Joans

Joans wrote:
Well we've got the forum clock being about 5 minutes fast, meaning Zaphods post should have counted, but a decision was made that it wouldn't. If this is part of the game, then it suggests santanalian is something other than the demented elf.
However, there's also the message from zaphod which santanalian claims not to have received, but also claims that curio told him he just forgot to send it on. If that was the case, you'd expect curio to confirm this. If this one is part of the game, then yeah, it does point to santanalian being a bit dodgy.

Obviously, if either of those aren't part of the game, i.e. Zaphod posted in time, but we're just not counting it, or curio really did forget to pass on the message but won't confirm it in the thread, then that strikes me as a bit shitty, so I choose to assume it's part of the game.

By giving the game to the SK :-)

I dont really think you could have done anything different - if you were going to announce the mess up with Santalian then you would have to have done it instantly - once you've let it go then you have to leave it as a trust or dont trust point.

I do think the time thing is wrong and I think this would be a different game if both of us had been removed yesterday - but that choice has already been made so the game needs to play out as is.

If you're part of a team, then voting for yourself can quite easily be towards your win condition.

Mr Dave wrote:

So there are two possibilities here :

1) Santalian is the demented elf (which we know he's not) - him voting for himself removes the last person who can hit his win condition so its definitely against it
2) Santalian is a normal elf - him voting for himself removes one person from the pool , the killer will remove another overnight and we end up with 4 people who still wont talk and you require 3 for a majority to add someone else to the naughty list

I cant see how that can be seen as a positive , or playing to his win condition

It may suit him personally to be removed from the pain and torture of the game but its not helping the team at all.

A *non* vote today , the killer removes someone overnight (not santalian) leaves 5 tomorrow with 3 for a majority which I think works better for the town

If you're going to be voted out due to having a target painted on you, then it's best to do so at an early stage. If you're an easy target, then being so on a final day is probably not ideal for your team.

I'm not saying it's the best strategy, but it's certainly not absolutely against a win condition.

Post subject:  Re: The Naughty List

I've allowed it in the past, but I wouldn't if it went against his win condition (ie. if he were the elf). If I got involved I'd blanket ban it for everyone, though (otherwise everyone would know he's not on a team).

It could be a valid tactic for those not on a team too, so long as it wasn't the last vote.
A bluff to help the pretense that you are on a team, eh? Risky, and somewhat hard to withdraw from without raising suspicion, but doable.

(And on a team I've certainly cast the deciding vote for myself in the past. Superscum, for example, to try and force a vote for Bobby the next day. Which worked. To what extent people would've followed had I not done that, I can't say, but the Bobby lynch followed the next day with no hesitation.)

Author:  Mr Dave [ Fri Dec 20, 2013 15:00 ]
Post subject:  Re: The Naughty List

So yeah, I'd be opposed to any view being taken on self voting for reasons of "not playing to win condition". As chances are I might fall foul of it due to people seemingly rarely seeing things in the game as I do, and so disagreeing that what I'd done to get the best chances to meet the win condition wasn't playing to it. (I'd see it much the same as not voting for the blatant bad guy earning censure due to not trying to meet the win condition (See: Malc at the cottage) or deliberately leaving the SK alive as the same*.)

Basically a rule which is based on motivation is flawed, and a blanket ban removes any kind on tactical usage from it which would be boring.

* - which I still think of as being mostly in the towns favour, particularly when they have shit special roles. Which doesn't seem to be a majority view.

Ohhh - interesting

Bobby hasnt changed the forum time for GMT - so the 'forum' time for him reads 17:15 right now - which means in his view Gaz's post is past the cut off

I have set the forum time to GMT so for me its 16:15 and there are still 45 minutes to go

Which 'forum time' is the correct 'forum time' ?

Being abusive almost worked as a tactic to keep me alive, but it's probably best that I'm dead for those poor townies. I didn't mean it, people!

Because every single game people wait for a mod kill.

Maybe it should be part of a stated rule on day 1, choice of the game runner e.g.
1) Players not posting in x time will be mod killed.
2) Players not posting in x game time will be mod killed.
3) Players will not be mod killed even if they don't post.

Some have been - the issue is not really '1' player being quiet - its 5 or 6 and then it just means you need to pick randomly between a number of people who have either not posted or virtually not posted.

Yet there are still three quiet ones at the end, so that hasn't happened.

Even if talkies are bad guys, it's best to keep them around as it makes the game more interesting.
