Tactical decisions? Planned quick tests? Or are the cars broken and didn't even last a few laps.

If the latter, it might make the season interesting at least if the cars start breaking again. One thing that I miss is the prospect of mechanical failure. The cars are too reliable these days :D

No, it's broken - there was also a picture of one on a truck.

They should totally standardise and limit the tools the pit crew have to a set of open ended spanners, a flat screw driver with half the tip broken off and a claw hammer.

Post subject:  Re: Formula 1 F1 2014

Make sure the screwdriver is missing half the handle too, and the spanners are Imperial.

I think you're just imagining it - more because it looks nothing like his father than any smurf knowledge.

I think most of the noses need censoring, the only one that osn't vile is the Merc. The lotus wouldn'tbe too bad were it symettrical.

For now, anyway.

Ah well, love those colours though. Really evocative of old scalextric cars. They just need to bring back John Player Special and Rothmans and we'd be all set.

Am I allowed to express morbid amusement at his management team denying any kind of problem?

"Michael is fine, he told me himself yesterday.

These experts, what do they know anyway really?

Oh, and Micahel he also said I should get a new minimum-12-year contract and totes a payrise as well! NUH-UH I'm telling the truth you big meanies!"

So, the Australian GP was pretty good, I thought. I still think the cars look ugly (the McLaren is the worst, I think) and they sound like any other racing car now, but it is nice to hear the tyres being caned and the turbos and all that.

Shame for Daniel Ricciardo, though, But McLaren 2nd and 3rd whoo!

Post subject:  Re: Formula 1 F1 2014

Yeah, they need to get some better microphones or turn it up or something. Half the time on the trackside shots you couldn't even hear them. It was certainly interesting though. Good to see new drivers coming through and things just generally getting shaken up a bit. The Williams would surely have been on the podium if he hadn't nudged the wall.

Post subject:  Re: Formula 1 F1 2014

I don't often watch F1 anymore, but I tuned in for this to see how the 'new era' would start. It was OK but I still found myself getting distracted and idly checking my phone and using the ipad.

Some of the droopy-willy nosed cars are really ugly, but then there are also some lovely paintjobs. I liked hearing the whooshy turbo (at least, I think that's what I was hearing) but the engines were a bit drony and seemed a little flat. Overall I missed the sound. I wonder if it was any better in person, as of course it was coming through my little TV speakers.

The rotating-camera view from under the front near the wheel was ace. Is that new? It was cool.

The difference in engine noise from the front line. Through my new headphones (thanks Royal Rumble!) the first bit is unbearable.

Post subject:  Re: Formula 1 F1 2014

I do like 2014 engine noise as it's not going to deafen me and also you can pick out sounds from the engine. Sounds a bit futuristic too, like a scene from Star Wars. Although 2013 does sound more scary.

Honestly, the changes over the years have reduced me from not missing a single session to, only bothering to watch short highlights.

Oversll, I view these engines as a positive, but its not really going to absolve all the bullshit that's already in place.

Post subject:  Re: Formula 1 F1 2014

I loved the V12s. I didn't really.like the V10s. The V8s sounded like shit - presumably because of the rev limit.

I watched a bit of the highlights and from button's in-car thought it sounded brilliant, far meatier than any 1.6 I've heard before and the strangled regen-dump off-throttle is well.sci-fi.

Given how much I disliked the sound of V8s the trackside noise was far more pleasant too.

Crashes = exciting races.

Far too few crashes and safety cars these days. Obviously I don't want to see people getting hurt but the drivers aren't scared of crashing they are scared of getting punished for getting it six inches wrong when they're going toe to toe.
