Try plugging two into a mac mini :)

Um, I did this at my new job. The default setup was with the screens the wrong way round and I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to switch them in the Windows options. The monitor cables were even screwed really tightly into the back of the monitors so the easiest fix at that point was literally to move the two around.

it is easy in windows 8 :p

Is it not exactly the same? I can't link the screenshot I found but it doesn't seem to be any different?

No it is slightly different, I think.

Right click on desktop, click screen resolution.

That takes me to the control panel in question in Win7 so I think it's the same.

If I switch my right-hand display to be the main one the taskbar stays where it is on the left-hand display so...?

That is what I like about W8 the task bar is duplicated on very screen.

I know I am a mentalist, but I find W8 better for work than I did W7, just because of a few Nice touches.

Metro only works on your main screen, not every screen, so toggling is easy.

You need to apply the settings for it to take effect.

Maybe if you have previously dragged your taskbar somewhere else it stays there. Dunno. It certainly worked an hour or so ago when I did it for the guy at the start of this conversation.

I thought it might be because I had the taskbar locked but unlocking it made no difference to the behaviour.

Mac Pro has two DVI outputs. Simple. On Macbooks, not so simple

Was supposed to meet an old friend in a pub tonight. 40 minutes on since the agreed rendezvous and he's still not here. Torn between another pint and writing the evening off. We're being retro, you see, and forgot to share mobile numbers.

Wow, this proposed new law on making "emotional abuse" a criminal offence has clearly been well thought through. Clearly there is no chance whatsoever of something quite so ridiculously subjective (and in an area where there are no universally agreed metrics or even agreed causation - the offence would be intentionally or recklessly etc etc impairment of physical, intellectual, emotional, social or behavioural development) being misused by idiotic/incompetent/malicious coppers or social workers in any way at all, eh? That's never happened before with vague and badly drafted laws with no definite aim in mind, has it?*

But then again, if you're against this you're clearly a child abuser, because SOMETHING MUST BE DONE THINK OF THE KIDDIES.

Let's just ignore the fact that social workers can take the entirety of the home situation into account when assessing whether a child should be taken into care anyway, so the ony purpose for this is to be able to put people in jail (on completely subjective grounds), not about child protection.

*Yes it has.

You could always say you're too rich to go to jail, like the guy who just got off jail time for repeatedly raping his three year old daughter.

Also, we need to stop referring to proposals or acts as 'So-and-so's laws'. Tugging at people's heartstrings makes it difficult to cooly assess a proposal: 'but how can you be against Cinderella?'

"emotional abuse" a criminal offence...? What's next I wonder, dropping an ill-judged fart in a crowded lift?

Fuck's sake, it's absurd. When did this country become such a bunch of politically correct wusses?

In theory it's sound; you can cause a lot of harm to a child without hitting them.

In practice fuck knows how you judge it, and the existing laws in place should really already encompass it. I can only assume this has come to be passed due to social workers or whoever seeing that a kid is being harmed but being unable to do anything because they're not being beaten.

the definition of assault is causing someone fear for their safety.

Going by that, I've criminally assaulted myself quite a few times, and in far larger spaces than a lift.

Quick question:

People wanted to interview me for job today but my boss asked me to reschedule it. Only other time is monday afternoon. Boss not about. Shall I just accept new time and use my contractor position to say "you asked me to reshedule, Monday afternoon should be clear, so I won't be in" or wait until she is back? Intetviewer needs confirmation asap.

Based on your comment, I can only think of three scenario's you believe in, but I'm willing to accept there are more:

a) You don't think emotional abuse is real
b) You think emotional abuse is real but not damaging to people
c) You think emotional abuse is real and damages people, but should not be considered a crime.

Is it one of these or is it one I can't think of myself?

Or (D) "emotional abuse" is impossible to define with any certainty, and particularly not to the level of certainty where I'd be happy locking people up.

But then you knew that.

It's far, far too open to interpretation. A child would argue that a parent calling it an idiot was emotional abuse. The parent would argue the child was a constant idiot so reinforcing that was difficult to avoid. What can you do? The proof of the abuse is surely only down to whether the child finds it upsetting? It's like trying to make "Being Generally Offensive" illegal.

Still, if it's easier to think I'm a monster, feel free Pod. :D

Can I think both?

Desertion causes huge emotional upset to a child, so once they have them the parents better stay together, or it's off to the slammer for the both of them, at which point the child is placed into care which almost certainly ruins their entire life, so... Well, I don't know who you'd put into jail then. The foster parents? The social workers? The judge who jailed the parents?

All of the above, clearly.
