33. Asura's Wrath: I thought I'd already posted about this but must have fucked something up. Anyway, my opinion is: a resounding meh. There are points where the sheer sight of really angry guys shouting and, to be fair, spectacularly punching the shit out of stuff is entertaining but the game itself is too repetitive to really grab you and the story's not good enough to make up the rest. I suspect if you really liked that genre of anime you'd love it because then it would be the interactive story it was meant to be, but it didn't do it for me.
34. Unmechanical: a lovely Android conversation of a puzzle/exploration PC game that I believe is also slated for the PS4 at some point soon. Anyway, certainly as a mobile game it was great fun and definitely looked the part due to being an Unreal Engine game. The downside with that latter aspect is it's quite the battery eater so arguably suited better to tablet play due to that and just generally looking better on a bigger screen (though I played the whole thing through on my Once Max and it was still great). The only criticism I've got is that the graphical style sometimes stood in the way of the gameplay, in that often there's was an object you're supposed to actually pick up and use but it was sometimes hard to pick these out from the static environment furniture. Once you realise that though it becomes much harder to get caught out the same way so it's hardly a deal breaker. There's not a massive amount to the game and as a full price PC or console release my opinion might not've been so high but as a mobile game for a few quid it was excellent.

I bothered to do a Google and yeah, some kind of extended version of Unmechanical is coming to the Vita/PS3/PS4 at some point.

38) Little Inferno (iOS). I thought it was a silly distraction game where you burn stuff in a simulated fireplace. How wrong was I? It's only got a Tim Burton-esq storyline and, erm, and burning stuff in a fireplace. Quite how they've managed to combine the two is a stroke of genius though. It's the best iOS game I've played in ages. Not least cause most mobile games are utter shit.

39) Outlast: Whistleblower (PS4). I can't afford Alien: Isolation but if it's half as good as this DLC then it must be pretty facking awesome. Graphically it's the best thing I've played on PS4 so far - not because the graphics are nice, cause they are, but the environmental details are the mutts massive nuts. There's a section enshrouded in fog where you can see about 3 feet in front of you and it's marvellously done. Really amazing. There's a section where a nearby church is on fire and the light of the burning church fire comes flooding through the windows. Really lovely. There's also a section where a basketball court is used as a meat freezer by a guy who wants to turn men into women. Erm, yeah, that was weird.

Actually, the more I played, the closer and closer that it got to being the next-gen equivalent of Manhunt. How fucking cool would that be?

It's scary as fuck as well. There's a great bit in the fog again. You're walking about and someone runs up and smacks you on the back of the head. It happens once and never again. It's absolutely terrifying. I love playing a good horror game every now and again. Not too often but when you're in the mood they can be like no other game, the way they play with your fears and emotions.

40) Dark Souls 2: Ivory King DLC (PS3). It's Dark Souls again. It was really really good. It's definitely up there with some of the best environments made in DS2. All the DLC was fantastic though. I really liked the snow storm in the optional challenge area; actually the snow effects all round was fantastic. Yeah, it was really really good. Top-hole!

If you're logged into Google, it will tell you if it's compatible with any of your Android devices.

EDIT: Also let you buy it and install it on any device you have.

Not from an actual Android device it won't, in that case it'll only even show stuff up that's compatible so I was wondering if that's what was going on.

Oh right, yes, even if you search in Chrome it will take you directly to the Google Play app.

In fact, I'm shoving 42. Kentucky Route Zero (PC) on my list cause I've done all 3 acts and I've no intention of going back to the final 2 acts. Not least cause they don't exist. In my mind, I've seen all there is to see and I've finished it. It was disappointingly lovely in few places.

43. Element4l (PC). Do you like physics based puzzles? Then get outta my face cause this did my freakin' 'ead in. I got it in one of those humble bundle things and stopped playing it because it was shit. Then I started playing it out of sheer boredom. Then I had to finish it cause I thought I was near the end even though I wasn't but then I'd come too far and I had to finish it all the same. It wasn't terrible to be honest, but I wouldn't waste your time on it. And the title is terrible.

44. Blek (iOS) Critically acclaimed puzzle game about drawing a self replicating line. Initially very clever, then very frustrating. Yeah, I'm shit at puzzlers and needed to look at youtube for about 10 of the levels and even then you need a rare bit of luck and patience to get it right. Also, like most puzzle games, I liked about half of it. Must stop buying puzzle games like this.

That's a great little game. Downloaded it and completed it yesterday. Going to have another run through to see what I missed. There's a fair bit of map that I didn't reach (though I probably saw all the vital bits).

Beautiful, short, perhaps a little too easy (basically your mum). Bags of charm and atmosphere though, and I'm a sucker for impossible Escher drawings.

45. Escape Plan (PS Vita). What a shame, it's not actually very good. And I'd be annoyed if I'd have paid a tenner for how short it is. In fact the credits are the longest part about it. It's too slow, too cumbersome, too finicky. Using the front screen and back pad is all well and good but not when you need to tap the right bit on the back when you can't see where your FACKIN fingers are tapping. So you hit the things you don't want to hit or don't time your tap right and blah blah blah. Luckily there's only a couple of screens that are even difficult and 99% of those screens are only difficult because of the rear pad. The rear pad is shit. Plus, I always hold the Vita with my fingers touching the back anyway, so, y'know, it's a pointless feature.

That's pretty much what I thought about it. There's some DLC on the way for iOS, and presumably Android at some point later, so worth keeping your eye out for that.

So, more Trials basically. Doesn't quite hit the heights of Evolution, but still like digital crack.

46. Steamworld Dig (PS Vita). It's brilliant. Like, really good, man. Generally speaking I don't like collecting stuff for the sake of it but there's something about this spelunking platformer that made me want to collect all the treasure so I could get the biggest and fastest pick axe to smash through to Australia.

It took only twenty minutes of play to realise that it was awesome and about 5-6 hours to complete. Not once was I bored, not once did I tire of mining for treasure, not once did I think about playing something else. It had its hooks in me from those first 20 minutes and I can't say that about many games at the minute.

It's free for PS Plussers so there's no excuse for anyone who has that to get stuck in. And it's on just about every platform known to man, so, erm, get it.

And the character animation during the cutscenes is indeed very good, but the rest of the game's pretty shite. Incredibly repetitive and boring level design throughout with some weird and annoying 'chase' levels chucked in as sort-of boss battles. A deeply flawed currency system (you can collect enough to unlock all the shitty weapon upgrades within the first few levels leaving you literally no reason to bother collecting anything after that) and pretty poor graphics are the final nails in it's coffin.

47. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (PS4). Are you having a laugh? Are you having a fucking laugh? Double boost jumps, hook grapple, laser guns, mech-suits AND YOU FUCKERS CHURN OUT THE SAME OLD SHIT? How did you manage it? Not only have you managed to produce the same old turkey shoot for the eleventh time? Unbelievable. If this what passes for the next-gen then you might as well shove it up your arsehole cause I'm sick of it. It could have been so much better and how? Double boost jumps, hook grapple, laser gun and, mech-suits YOU DAFT SHITS. It could have edged more towards Halo and made the campaign more open and fun. It's strange because about 9/tenths through and you notice a small difference in the enemy hierarchy: grunt (couple of bullets till dead), helmet grunt (more bullets, gov?) and mech (three grenades please). There's the making of an interesting selection of enemies to shove together to create some, fuck I don't know, some emergent gameplay. Oh, you want to have the grunts shuffle around like zombies and the mechs to endlessly march towards you? Fuck you dickheads.

That's not to say that it's terrible but, really, it is. It's horrible crap.

You want to make it better? How about some vehicle crap? Jet ski, car and a mind numbingly stupid plane ride. The latter plays like afterburner but just in the canyons bit, and, even on hard (which I finished it on, fact fans), whether you shoot anything at all is inconsequential. Stuff just blows itself up in front of you. You won't care. You won't care about Kevin Spacey. You won't care about the same gruff black guy or the bearded white guys. The only thing that'll keep you guessing in this mess of a story is whether that's Jason Statham's voice or not. I still don't know if it was and I didn't stick around when the credits started to find out. He could have been the first name but I couldn't give two fucks to find out as my thumb was stabbing X. The only - the only - thing that can be said for the game is the lack of multiple main characters. You play one guy, so I suppose the story makes more sense than usual.

But what about the set pieces I hear the voice inside my head screaming? NO ONE GIVES A FUCK. Stuff blows up, shiny stuff blows up, there's some gadgets that are used in front of you.

Oh, my fingers hurt tapping this out on a phone. Let's just say this: I don't like it. I don't like it at all. The makers have learnt nothing about how to do a good campaign (or forgot why MW was so special). This crap can go to hell.

I like multiplayer though. Tis gud ya?

48. Dragons Crown (PS Vita). Remember the guy who made the original Dungeons and Dragons beat-em-up? Me neither. But after umpteen years HE'S BACK! No one? Ok. So what's he gone and done this time the voice in my head says (what's that guy's problem)? Well, he's only gone and made a Dungeons and Dragons beat-em-up! A-MAZE. I can imagine him sitting in his little tiny japanese chair stroking his bonsai tree racking his brains for years wondering what sort of game he should make to follow up his Dungeons and Dragons beat-em-up.

And who cares! Because I love this.

Here's what you do. Press X to start and then hammer the square button for 9 hours in the most sumptuous hand drawn drawings of drawings. It's all a bit pubescent boy with giant tits on both men and women alike but it won't matter much when you're bashing lizard men, Knights, sorcerers and a killer bunny rabbit. The latter of which is a boss. Turn off brain. Smashy smashy smashy. I liked it. 8/10.

It was free on PS+ ages ago. You've probably missed it, chump.

  3. Marvel Puzzle Quest
  4. Untrusted
  5. X-COM: Enemy Unknown
  6. The Bard's Tale
  7. The Walking Dead
  8. Alien: Isolation

Took a bit of a break from this when my Technohat and Elite turned up, picked it up again yesterday and completed it just now (in fact, the credits are running on my other monitor as I write this).

It was superb. Absolutely superb, and the best Alien video game by some distance. I'm sad it's finished.

The little audio clips you get when you find the logs of the Nostromo are brilliant, (especially that one).

Going to check out the DLC now.

Also, Ian Holm was credited as the likeness for Ash, so they must have got him in, but the voice work was done by someone else. That's a bit odd, isn't it?

Obviously looks loads better in full 1080p too.
