When you play it, you'll see straight away why they did that. Being able to save when you want would totally remove all the dread from the game.

What Grim... said. There's a reason many (most?) horror games restrict save points.

. I am not really feeling it too much, though. I am not adapting well to "hide from everyone". I will try it some more, though, as when it was tense it was good, but hiding innabin away from bandits wasn't doing much for me last night.

That was just training you to hide from the Alien. I can't think of a situation after that when I didn't shoot any human I met in the face.
