ZOMG this deck though.

Lost to it a couple of times, very badly. Turned to the dark side.

*big* update (size) today - 1.1 gig - includes the new adventure mode which will unlock later this week

If you buy it now you get some cards - the hat (hunter card) which buffs a minion and when it dies you get the hat back and a flaming torch thats a 3 mana / 3 damage card that adds a 3 mana 6 damage card to your deck

I bought it last night. Rather surprisingly it added a couple of cards to my collection straight away.

Then overnight I got an email from Blizzard saying they'd taken them off me.

Quote:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing The League of Explorers adventure for Hearthstone!

This adventure was available for purchase earlier than intended and has been temporarily disabled for purchase. The Forgotten Torch and Explorer’s Hat cards have been temporarily removed from your collection.

You will regain access to the first wing of The League of Explorers when it is released in your region later this week. The Forgotten Torch and Explorer’s Hat will be returned to your collection at that time.

If you would rather receive a refund for your purchase, contact our Customer Support team here for assistance: https://battle.net/support/help/solutio ... hstone/542

We apologize for any confusion this issue might have caused, and we appreciate your understanding.

Same - however I got to use the cards last night - I like the torch one (I just added it to my echo-mage deck)

I am beginning to tire of Hearthstone, and getting an urge to play MtG instead.

Adventure is out - did the 3 basic missions first go (with a fairly standard mage deck) - and the two hero challenges (although i struggled a bit with the Warlock one just down to card draw)

Did the Heroic version of the first challenge with a basic hunter (which i thought fitted the power best)

First week dusted. Non-heroic was laughably easy and I one-shotted it with a standard mage. Class challenges too easy also.

First Heroic easy, second required my basic dragon priest, and the final escape needed a careful freeze mage that relies a bit on good draws. The notable bit about the last one is that the encounters are fixed so you can plan your deck around them.

I can't help but think there's only so much they can do with Hearthstone now, the format itself is inherently limiting (30 cards, defined mana curve, one deck taken to a single game at a time), none of the complexities of something like MTG.

I appreciate that Hearthstone is designed to be more casual and accessible, but as the number of cards increases out to many hundreds (and onwards towards a thousand) that 30 card limit in a single deck which you take into a single game, is going to constrain it IMO. (I'd argue it already is.)

On top of that Blizz have shown they'll nerf powerful combo decks irrespective of the skill it takes to pilot them (Miracle Rogue, Patron Warrior), whilst crap like Face Hunter remains untouched.

As such it seems to me that unless a card represents almost 'unreasonable' value, there's no way it can displace current choices. (Murloc Knight for example any midrange pally will run two of, because it delivers so much for its mana cost. See also of course, Dr Turn Seven.)

You only need to look at Shaman which Blizz tried to give some powerful cards to, but even now it's just a poor relation to Paladin as Paladin has the better value cards.

I'm still playing it daily and still doing my quest, but overall games played is a lot less than has been the case previously.

Yeah it's terrible really. After nearly two years you're still only playing it 'a bit' every single day ;)

Oh don't get me wrong it's one of the best games I've ever played, and if I never played it again after today (not going to happen!) I wouldn't begrudge it one single penny of the money I've spent on it, or one minute of the time I've played it for.

I do think it needs an extra game mode of some sort though, for those players who want to get involved in longer and more involved games without having to constantly wonder if the next game is going to be against some nonsensical aggro deck that beats anything else in the game if it gets its draw right.

They're definitely not doing enough. I heard it said recently they're pulling in $20 million a MONTH on Heartstone. If that's true that's fucking mental, and they can certainly dedicate the manpower to do stuff a chuff of a lot faster.

The lack of > 9 deckslots is a constant pain. One for each class with no space for variations, as I was reminded again in putting together the deck for the adventure.

Time to start saving gold for the next expansion I think. Whilst my TGT collection isn't complete by a long chalk, having looked at what I'm missing there's nothing in there I'm too fussed about, and I have a large chunk of dust for any crafting that's required for some unknown future amazeballs deck that someone comes up with. (I was after a Justicar but I opened him last week which was a nice surprise, although he tends to be a bit of a 'win more' card in Control Warrior I find.)

Looking forward I envisage paying CASH for the adventure expansions as they're guaranteed cards and inexpensive, and then saving GOLD for the card expansions as you need a big hit of packs to have a reasonable chance of acquiring a solid spread of cards. (My freeloading of TGT worked out pretty well.)

It'll be interesting to see how the League of Explorers cards pan out once the full set is out there too.

Week 2 is out , I had real issues with the 2nd mission (the mine cart escape) by simply not drawing the right cards - you really only need an occasional heal and a few of the 'deal 3 damage to all enemies' but in my first 2 attempts I never drew any heal cards and in the next i drew heal cards but no damage ones.

Then on another game those were basically all I drew and the whole thing was finished really quickly.

So the final wing of LEAGUE OF EXPLORERS has opened and it's got one of those challenges where you absolutely must build a custom deck for the fight, and you absolutely must delete ONE OF YOUR EXISTING DECKS IN THE PROCESS.

I mean, it's quite a neat fight and I like the design of it, but why not just allow a temporary deck slot for the fight, like they do for Tavern Brawls that require a deck to be built?

STUPID BLIZZARD.

Yeah OK this one has tickled my fancy.

Winrate is around 80% I reckon. The only matchup that really worries me is another Warlock.

I've enjoyed this one as well - Mainly played Mage (flamewalker / apprentice work well with the amount of spells you throw) but i crafted a basic rouge deck because i had 2 quests to use and I did well with it as well - i'll be sad to see this brawl go

I know this one is a repeat but i may have gone a little overboard with the tavern brawl

Deck below - mage with some cheap removal / mukla's champion / K raider / maiden of the lack and just Dragons , Giants and legendarys to round it out for when you get the 'put a minion on the board' power - its amazing how often that comes up and they get a spider or a small minion and I get a Dragon or Giant

Getting Maiden out on about round 6 and her surviving a round either gives you mukla (plus multiple power ups on all your minions) or a raider and multiple power ups on them

Ha! Cheers zaphod I'd been putting off doing this Brawl as I don't really like the ones where you have to make a deck, but your deck works rather well, won three games with it quite easily :) (Obviously the Brawls have to be done, 'cause it's like, a free pack.)

I'm already saving for the next cards expansion, sat at 4085 gold and 11335 dust, if I hit 6000 gold before it launches I'll feed the excess into TGT packs as I do still have quite a few gaps in there (nothing that I'm motivated to craft though). 6000 gold is 60 packs which I reckon is ample (arguably slight overkill) assuming the next cards expansion is 120-130 cards as the others have been.

I've definitely slowed down on Hearthstone compared to where I have been, but still playing it every single day, (with the odd exception where I have a mental day at work or family stuff going or suchlike), which after just shy of two years of play isn't bad going. (My total spend on it is around £160 IIRC.)

I wish there was a /played command like there is in WoW..... :D (/played reports your total playtime on a character in WoW, the numbers can start to get a bit scary.....)

On a wider note my expectation going forwards is that I'll only have to spend cash on the adventure expansions (so £17 twice a year), I think I can freeload the cards expansions from now on.

This weeks tavern brawl seems interesting

Murluc's champion / Hobgoblin / are two of the key cards along with some basic mage clearup (1 point to all enemies for example) - I've most of a deck sorted and have won a few rounds so i'll post it up later

And i saw this one on reddit - one turn killer :-)

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
If you dont follow its play innovate (you dont even need the coin) then
Alex (enemy health 15)
Raggy (will hit enemy for 8)
Faceless on Raggy (will also hit enemy for 8)

Game over !

So apart from weird starts - aim for somewhere around turn 5 to be able to play either Murluka's champion + some minions and 'inspire' , or some hobgoblins and a number of other minions

I've seen Raafam played quite a few times and if he's been out and round 10 comes around then you've probably lost but most games seem to finish before then

Have to be honest and say this Tavern Brawl hasn't really fired me up like some of the others have, possibly because I sort of misread the description, put together a nonsensical Warrior deck which just had all my biggest class/neutral cards in it, and won easily in my first game. (Varian Wrynn on Turn 1 helped there, I hadn't even cottoned onto the mechanic whereby everything was turned into a 1/1.)

I do like the Tavern Brawls overall, they're a great addition to the game, it's a free pack of cards for everyone every week, and some of them are really good fun (that Gift Exchange one I thought was fantastic, did about 60 wins or so by the end of that week) - but in the main I tend to just to use them for the free pack of cards as I find Constructed more interesting to play.

But yes, definitely a great addition to the game.

Yay I've topped 6000 gold in the bank, so that's 60 free packs straight out of the doors when the next expansion hits. (With a cash value of £47.99!)

Not sure what I'll do with the overflow now (as 60 packs is plenty for an expansion, arguably overkill in fact). Since the next expansion hasn't even been announced yet, I might just randomly buy packs from the previous sets on the off-chance I'll fill in a few of the blanks I have left. (Almost only legendaries from Classic, a bit more of a smattering from GvG, and quite a few gaps in TGT, although nothing that's encouraging me to craft anything with the 11690 dust I'm sat on.)

I shall carry the torch of EBG freeloadery since he's no longer around to chat Hearthstone with us, which is a shame really.

Well these sort of things had to come sooner or later ( I cant remember if it was you or EBG who suggested something similar) - so you can play with all your cards or can play in a limited area with just the cards from the last year

Here's a splendid deck to have a play around with. It's turned up on Trump's channel being played by him, but is apparently a creation of Kolento and is being piloted by him at high rank legend.

The ANYFIN CAN HAPPEN card was widely derided at release and indeed it has taken a long time for someone to come up with a viable deck for it. (10 mana, summon 7 random murlocs that died this game.)

Everyone criticised it on the basis you'd have to chuck a load of crap murlocs into a deck, and then the randomness and late-game nature of the card would make it far too inconsistent.

The thing you'll notice about this deck is that there are only five murlocs in there, but they all have very strong synergy with each other and four of them have charge.

There's also loads of card draw and healing in there. The idea is to play as a control deck until you've had enough murlocs die and have an ANYFIN CAN HAPPEN in hand, or even better, both of them - and then finish off your opponent with an insane burst or two.

The second ANYFIN feeds off the first, so for example there's only one Old Murk-Eye in there as he's a legendary, but if he's summoned by the first ANYFIN, then the second one can summon two of him.

Don't worry about killing your opponent pre-ANYFIN play (although it can happen, I've won games with both ANYFINs in hand), just control, stay alive, and draw cards. Don't worry about murloc synergy during the game either, there's nothing wrong with playing the murlocs individually - the Warleader as a basic 3/3 onto an empty board is fine.

Also keep an eye on any other murlocs that are played, or pop out of a Shredder for example, as ANYFIN can summon ANY murloc that died during the game.

The end result can be stuff like this, this is a single ANYFIN play, 42 charging damage onto an empty board to OTK a Priest at 30 health..... (The two 12s and the three 6s have charge.)

Oh yes, and the deck itself. LOL.

Other notes, feel free to use the Doomsayers liberally and early, it basically denies your opponent their next turn to a greater or lesser degree.

There are several board clear options revolving around Wild Pyro, the most powerful being Pyro > Equality of course but there are other options in there with spells.

Try to work out nice Solemn Vigils as well, draw two cards for zero mana is very pleasant.

Also due to the limited number of murlocs in the deck it's usually possible to know what ANYFIN will give you, especially the first one, so a bit of memory and counting can be required to calculate if you'll generate enough damage to kill your opponent or not. Using the first one to 'prime' the second one is fine.

Yeah I was going on about this just on the previous page of this thread (and earlier than that as well IIRC):

viewtopic.php?p=880985#p880985

There's a good Kripp video as well where he looks at the winners and losers, and his overall conclusion is that Hearthstone is going to be a much better game as a result of the changes, and I agree with him.

Note that he's particularly glad to see the back of Piloted Shredder, which is a card I singled out in this thread, although no one really seemed to agree with me :)

viewtopic.php?p=875654#p875654 -

Quote:
....there are some cards that are plain boring and need nerfing or sorting out, Piloted Shredder for example, completely fucks the four-drop design space. In anything but the most specialised deck, why wouldn't you just put a Shredder in there. It's like a four-drop version of Dr Boom, with similarly annoying RNG.

Here's something to have a play around with, not a new deck as such but Trump has been musing on what decks will be strong in the new STANDARD format and he reckons this could be one of them.

MALYGOS ROGUE

For starters it didn't lose many cards anyway, and those it did lose had credible replacements, i.e. swap out the Antique Healbots (which will be illegal in STANDARD), and replace with Earthen Ring Farseers.

Plus of course, new cards may be added in the next expansion which will be good in this deck.

Works very much like the old Miracle Rogue but the idea here is to get through your deck to a point where you can play Malygos and then do crazy face damage with a Sinister Strike and an Eviscerate or two.

Quite good fun to play, I did like me some Miracle Rogue back in the day, but the various nerfs (Gadgetzan, Leeroy) as well as 'passive nerfs' (sticky taunt minions such as Sludge Belcher) made it pretty much non-viable.

This works though, I've been going about 50/50 with it in Casual :)

Videos on Trump's channel have gone up in the last few days if you want to see him pilot the deck, although by his own admission he's still learning the ropes.

The ANYFIN CAN HAPPEN card was widely derided at release and indeed it has taken a long time for someone to come up with a viable deck for it. (10 mana, summon 7 random murlocs that died this game.)

I've been really enjoying playing this deck - its the first Paladin deck that really works for me

Aye it's a great deck to play, and I love the way you often need to be planning several turns ahead. Generally speaking I enjoy the more tactical decks, even though the FACE FACE FACE decks may be about as effective in many circumstances, the 'puzzle' element on each turn with the more complex decks is fab.

Quite possible to win without the ANYFINS as well, although I always feel a bit cheated if I win or they concede when I've got a massive ANYFIN ready to go :D

Checking back to the start of this thread I have now been playing Hearthstone for just over two years :o Behind WoW I'd say it's certainly my second most played game ever, and if anything it's about to get even more interesting once the new STANDARD game format comes into play. (Which means I'll sink even more hours into it.)

Not feeling this weeks Tavern Brawl - a basic facehunter deck finished off an opponent quickly enough but no itch to replay it at all.

On the plus side instead of getting 40 dust from the pack I pulled a 'preparation' card which is one of the Rouge staple cards I was missing

MALYGOS ROGUE BECKONS YOU - it's a sign!

I haven't tried the brawl yet, the ones where you have to make a deck usually annoy me.

I was missing too many cards in the past to do any decent Rogue deck - I may give one a try when AnyFIN starts to get boring

For this one you have Taunt , so any minions who dont are behind you and are protected from anything beyond magic attacks , however I just loaded up with charge minions and rushed my opponent - you cant really go wrong with it - the only things to worry about are Magic Armour (mage only and does mean you need at least some type of takedown spell) and that you dont overload your side with minions so you cant get more powerful ones out (should not be an issue if your just going for the quick kill) Hunter Secrets work well - especially if you consider that everything attacking will go for your face so explosive trap and misdirection are good) and against anything other than a Mage those single health point charge characters will hang around for a little while

Ahhh yes, absolutely rolled over a Mage with a dirty Face Hunter deck.

Pack of cards get, all dust but an epic and a rare so not to be sniffed at.

Won't be playing this one again though!

When two ANYFINS go to war..... This idiot had just chucked a load of murlocs into a deck and sort of hoped for the best.

He lost! Although that said, he did of course make my ANYFIN a lot worse too as it summons seven random murlocs from ANY that died during the game. I could have lethalled him without even playing my ANYFIN, but I just wanted to see what it looked like, when on his turn he played his own ANYFIN I did for a moment think, 'Erm, this could go badly wrong....' but fortunately he didn't get enough charge damage to kill me by a long shot.

I did play someone who had the 'same' deck , after I worked that out I was very careful to play any murlocks , but when he was at the right health I just played mine to gain all his dead minions :-)

The most common issue I have with it playing against a Paladin is that so many have the murlock who spawns another when you use your power - so if you dont take him out quickly your losing spots on your 7 revivals

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT coming on the 11th March apparently.

Obviously it's going to be the next expansion, which I guess will coincide with the launch of STANDARD MODE.

Goodbye Dr. Boom, goodbye Fucking Mech Mage, and Face Hunter takes a wallop too.

All these things are welcome.

Recipes coming :

Quote:
Let’s Get Brewing with Deck Recipes!

Ready to embrace your inner deck-builder, but not sure where to start? Don’t fret, friend! Deck Recipes are coming to Hearthstone to help inspire* new deck-builders to create fun and functional decks!

Introducing Deck Recipes!

Deck Recipes are a new feature coming to Hearthstone to help budding deck-builders get a head-start on quickly crafting a solid deck to play in the Tavern. They’re great for both new players who haven’t built many decks, and experienced players who don’t want to create a deck entirely from scratch. To access the Deck Recipes, simply go to your Collection Manager via the “My Collection” button, select the “New Deck” option under “My Decks,” and pick your class; then you’ll see the Deck Recipes on the left-hand side. Three are available for each class, including one classic recipe, and two themed recipes. If you want to quickly jump into a game and need a deck, classic recipes are the way to go. If you’re more experienced and want to try something different, themed recipes may provide some inspiration.

Each classic recipe consists of only Basic and Classic cards, and provides a good foundation for you to get started on building most traditional decks. Newer players will find that the classic recipe is a great tool to get familiar with the deck-building process, but they can also serve as a handy shortcut for veteran players looking to get a new deck started.

Themed recipes revolve around certain card types or mechanics, and generally promote synergy between the cards included in the recipe. These slightly more advanced decks each promote a specific playstyle, and are better suited for more experienced players looking to try something new.

Examples of themed recipes include:

Empowered Spells

Rogue’s Empowered Spells recipe – This deck focuses mostly on card draw and spell damage, anchored by the mighty essence of magic himself, Malygos.

Deathtrap

Hunter’s Deathtrap recipe – A control-based deck that focuses on board control and the use of Trap spells.

Murlocs Unleashed

Shaman’s Murlocs Unleashed recipe – An aggressive deck that focuses on buffing synergies, and our favorite fishy friends.

But I’m Missing Cards!

Don’t have all of the cards to complete a specific Deck Recipe? No sweat! Simply click on one of the greyed out cards you’re missing, and the greatly improved “Suggest a Card” feature will help you replace it with a card from your collection. This should help make it easy to quickly finish a deck, and start playing!

Suggest a Card

We hope you’ll have fun experimenting with Deck Recipes, and that they’ll help get your creative deck-building juices flowing. These recipes serve as a great starting point for building solid decks, and also serve as useful tools for those looking to get into more advanced deck-building. If you’re excited about our upcoming Standard format, we have you covered—all of our Deck Recipes are Standard-friendly. As new cards are released, we may update the current Deck Recipes, or swap some out entirely, so keep on the lookout!

That sounds great.

The problem with Hearthstone is that it's so good every other fucking game in the world ends up getting pushed out, because it's vying with Hearthstone for my game time, and Hearthstone almost always wins.

I'm damn near forcing myself to play chunks of Witcher 3, or Diablo 3, or Pinball Arcade - but Hearthstone must account for around 70-80% of my game time, and this in the lull before the next expansion and launch of Standard Mode.

It is making my gaming hobby extremely cheap though, as there is literally no need for me to spend a penny on anything else. (Or indeed Hearthstone going forward now most likely, currently at over 9000 gold and 12000 dust.)

Official announcement now up:

http://eu.battle.net/hearthstone/en/blog/20058061/

As anticipated it's a 'cards only' expansion (134 of them), with a new overall theme around corruption style effects and powerful legendary OLD GOD cards which you can modify with other cards even when they're not in your hand.

At the same time Standard Mode comes in (bye bye Naxx and GvG) in Standard, but all live on in WILD MODE.

Pleased to see that the pricing structure remains the same, along with a special pre-order offer of 50 packs for £34.99, I'll just be chucking 5000 of my gold pile at that :)

Given that the release is touted as late April/early May I suspect I'll be up around 11000 gold or more by then. Free Hearthstone for ever more! EBG would be so proud.

New patch is live - 18 deck slots !

http://www.hearthpwn.com/news/1225-hear ... slots-lady

Quote:
Hearthstone Patch 4.2.0 - More Deck Slots! Lady Liadrin - The Next Paladin Hero, Card Backs, Whispers of the Old Gods Pre-Order

Deck Recipes

Deck recipes have been added to the game.
Druid

Classic Druid - As a Druid, flexibility is part of your nature. These Basic and Classic cards allow you to accelerate ahead of your opponent and to adapt to their strategy as you choose!
Ferocious Beasts - Continuously assault your opponent with the most ferocious beasts Azeroth has to offer. And a few non-beasts. They're honorary beasts.
Overwhelming Numbers - What is better than three minions? Seven, of course! Summon an army of smaller minions, and grow them into huge monsters.

Hunter

Classic Hunter - Wild animals answer your call, as you lay down traps and strike with your bow. Hunt your opponent with this deck of Basic and Classic cards.
Deathtrap - Set traps to protect yourself as you control the pace with other spells. End the game with some of your bigger minions or a flurry of damage to your opponent’s hero.
The Thrill of the Hunt - This Hunter deck is one of the most aggressive in the game. Remember: if you're not attacking their hero, you're probably doing it wrong.

Mage

Classic Mage - Want to be a Mage? This deck of timeless Basic and Classic cards is designed to enhance and support spell casting!
Spells Unending - This deck is packed with tons of minions who find you more cards. Trade your spells and minions for theirs aggressively to leverage the extra cards you’re getting.
Dragonfire - The ancient dragons will crush all opposition, assuming you live long enough to summon them. Nefarian told me to tell you not to embarrass him by dying.

Paladin

Classic Paladin - Interested in justice? Consider a career as a Paladin with these Basic and Classic cards! Command your army to control the board and cast blessed spells of the Light!
Dragons of Justice - Keep your opponent's board clear and finish the job with your high cost dragons.
Tide of Murlocs - Summon the greatest army of the tides. You’ll need to practice your battle cry! All together now: "MRGGLGLGGGL!"

Priest

Classic Priest - Are you a healer? With this deck of solid Basic and Classic cards, keep your minions alive as they fight for you!
Strike With the Shadows - Take matters into your own hands. Trade in some healing spells for deadly shadow magic and aggressive minions!
Dragonflight - Survival is key when dealing with dragons. If you can last long enough, your big dragons will end up taking over the late game.

Rogue

Classic Rogue - Orchestrate the situation to your maximum advantage. Exploit card interactions and strike swiftly with this deadly aggressive deck of Basic and Classic cards!
It's Combo Time - Combo multiple cards together in a single turn for maximum effectiveness! Keep control and pair your cards effectively.
Empowered Spells - Surprise your opponent with just how much damage you can do. Spell Damage minions will strengthen your spells to help finish the job.

Shaman

Classic Shaman - Elements guide your path! Use elemental magic to destroy enemy minions, and enhance your own to overwhelm your opponent. All you need is Basic and Classic cards!
Totally Totems - On their own, each totem is fairly weak, but amassing an army of them can be quite scary. It'll help you win the game, too.
Murlocs Unleashed - Try rushing down your opponents using the Murloc’s aggressive synergies and finish them off with direct damage.

Warlock

Classic Warlock - Power is all that matters, and you take it from whatever the source. This fast paced deck of Basic and Classic cards is full of minions intent on swift destruction of your opponent.
Demon Horde - Fill your board up and keep it full. Many of your cards become more powerful when you have tons of minions on the field, so decide carefully how your minions attack.
Handlock - You’ll want to stay alive while using your Hero Power as much as possible, some of your cards get better the more cards you have in your hand.

Warrior

Classic Warrior - What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger! These Basic and Classic cards take advantage of taking damage, and allow your hero to take part in the battle with weapons!
Unleash Your Rage - Dealing damage to your own minions is your path to victory here. Keep them alive long enough to take damage multiple times.
Reno Jackson - This deck only has one copy of each card in it, so that Reno Jackson can bring you back from the brink!

Doesn't seem to have done the game any graphical favours on my Android devices, this is how it now looks on my Nexus 5 and my Shield.....

(Fine on PC though.)
