I meant to post about this earlier on.

A very good friend of mine was set upon by six lads and beaten unconscious with thick dog chains and a metal pole. he could well have died.

The beatings took place outside a high school surrounded by CCTV and getting away after they first cornered him he ran to the only thing open nearby, which was a petrol station forecourt, which is where the main beating took place. There was CCTV footage at both of these places, but the quality was such that it was useless.

Actually, the way the policeman explained this made it seem that he was suggestion that because the attackers were black it was too difficult to make out his attackers features, but whether the cameras are too poor to make faces out, or too poor to make the faces of black people out isn't really the point - they don't do the job they are intended to do.

EDIT: Meant to say, my friend was OK after a time in hospital, many stitches and a staple in his skull, but he came through fine, considering that many people said the ferocity of the attack may well have killed him.

Big Brother is watching you, but it's OK because he's terribly short-sighted and has a squint, and probably thinks you're some sort of nocturnal animal instead of a person anyway.

I wonder what percentage of street crime actually makes good use of any CCTV footage (I do not mean driving in bus lanes and that kind of thing...)

I used "seen" because I was talking directly in response Gnomes' line - "I've seen a few instances (given my penchant for watching shows like Street Crime, Street Wars, et al) where the CCTV has seen an assault-in-progress and police have sped to the scene to pwn the fuckers". 1) If ghosts are real, why have none ever been captured on CCTV, or similar systems?
2) If UFOs etc.
3) If Jesus etc.
4) If God meant had meant for a terrifying and evil overmind to monitor our every moments and punish us our perceived infractions, he'd have invented himself, woodknee?

Isn't 'captured on CCTV' a great phrase?

Imagine the camera 'zapping' up the criminal as he passes through the visible area, and whenever they play back the tape, they can see the criminal banging against the front pane of glass, and the sides of the television screaming to be let free.
