yes, much less effort than sitting of the sofa, pressing the ps3 button on the remote, pressing Netflix, pressing up/down/left/right a couple of time and 'ok'.

All of which I'd have to do in addition to the steps you gave.

The legality thing is a minor issue.

So we're still talking a difference in pure effort that can be measured in seconds or, at worst, a couple of minutes for the sake of not waiting months to watch something. However this conversation went beyond the point of actually having a point a good few posts ago so it's probably best we both just stop talking about it.

That's what's got your goat? Seriously?

Okay, fair enough, I apologise for implying you're not a normal human being; it was just a bit of colourful phrasing not intended to have any actual meaning behind it and I'm sorry if I've caused any offence.

There was a case in the last year or so that made it clear that the temp caching of something isn't "copying" for the purposes of the copyrights and whatsits act.

It makes sense, as otherwise you've got no idea whether you're allowed to be watching a particular thing on Youtube.

So, been slowly watching this and just finished ep9.

This is basically Fringe again, isn't it? But with a Buffy style cast.

Entertaining enough, but not amazing.

If by 'like Fringe' you mean 'very little like Fringe' then yeah, absolutely.

Each episode starts with a person or people afflicted by a strange phenomenon.

Each episode then goes on to explain this by means of 'fringe science'.

Each series follows a government team tasked with dealing with weird, non-normal things.

Each series deals with people travelling between dimensions, whilst remaining largely set in the present.

Each series has characters with complicated back stories that reveal hidden depths as time goes by.

Each series has a great nemesis agency or force that they clash with, often obliquely.

Each series has a quirky person or persons in a lab who tries to solve everything using 'fringe science'.

But, yeah, not even vaguely similar.

Post subject:  Re: Agents of Shield

I'd deleted my post almost immediately because, after thinking about it some more, I realised there are some similarities in the set up of the two. I still don't think the two series are particularly comparable aside from a few surface details; they just don't feel the same in execution to me and one never came to my mind from the other. Certainly I think saying one is 'just the other' is generalising massively. So, while I do agree with some of your comparisons there (and others you're seriously stretching) I still don't think it's true to say they're the same.

I watched the first couple, but haven't had the desire to watch anymore yet. I'll probably save it up to watch on the train, as it seems the perfect commuting show. i.e. not too taxing, easy to watch, non-offensive.

Even for a show at that level I found it too boring to continue with and dropped it. I'll happily switch my brain off to watch Castle, Blue Bloods or While Collar but this was a step too bland.

Post subject:  Re: Agents of Shield

I think just the last couple of episodes (8 and 9) in particular just 'felt' the same from the opening scene.

"Oh look, there's a person. I wonder what mental shit will happen to them in the next 30 seconds, which will appear to be magic, but revealed as weird science by the eccentric scientist(s)"

That's more related to the first series or two of Fringe, of course, rather than the clusterfuck of later vintages.

Not as annoying as the shitcakes going on with randomly disappearing/reappearing parts of Warehouse 13 season 4 though.

So, I'm just catching up with this.
So far, it's hovering between "good" and "okay". I've spotted a Dollhouse reference in Episode 8, but no others anywhere else.

It's like it's warming up to something really good in the next episode each week, if you see what I mean.

Go and see the Winter Soldier like I just did. It's pretty good, and it's going to mean some big changes to AOS.

Where does it "fit" though?

The "Thor" episode fitted quite nicely after I saw Thor 2 at the cinema about the week it came out, but back then the UK and US were on the same schedule.

Now, Captain America came out over here before it came out in the US, but AoS is behind the US now...

Very annoying.

Hmmm

A very careful look on wikipedia suggest the UK is only two episodes behind the US, that's not so bad, not so bad at all.

Doesn't really matter, I went 15-film-16 and some of the minor throwaway comments in 16 made more sense, but nothing was spoiled either way.

Comics in general, not AoS specifically.

Not really the source material then strictly speaking. Anyway, your best is to look for runs by certain writers. The quality of comics is as variable as any other medium's output of course and there's some real dross out there (99% of DCs current output, I'm looking at you). As each character/series has a (relatively) regularly rotating cast of writers and artists there's no guarantee of quality even if you read stuff for the 'flagship' characters or teams. Certain writers will tend to deliver good stuff regardless of which character/series they're working on at any given moment though so that's probably the best way to dip a toe in my opinion. And if you're just generally struggling to get into the whole comics thing it might be an idea to look at non-superhero stuff as an intro rather than going straight to capes and tights.

Ruffalo as Dr Banner really is superb. Conveys fantastically the fragility and fear of his alter ego.

Still annoys me how The Hulk magically changes from monster that will attack his friends to best buddies though.
