Yes, that one. Superbly tense. But, anyway! Back to SHIELD.

33 doesn't count, it follows a three-hour miniseries that sets the characters and situation up.

But it does it all again, much like The Train Job did for Firefly (there was a one-year gap between the miniseries and the first season).
Apparently, it was Lee Adama and the BSG creator (Ron someone)'s favorite episode, which must have made the rest of the show a constant disappointment :)

It also aired in the UK a couple of months before the US, which is somewhat interesting.

Maria Hill looks better with her hair tied back. But she without a doubt had the best line in the show.

Ultimately a bit boring. The "British" pair were utterly irritating.

I quite enjoyed this as it was but, more than that, I can see potential for it being even better post-pilot when the various actors get into their characters and start delivering the Whedon-y lines more effectively. Also, curious now for what the secret is behind Coulson's return from the dead. I have a few theories but I'll wait and see if they throw in any other clues.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Also, the flying car is something that's faithful to the comics in that Maria Hill and Nick Fury were always cutting around in one if that makes it more palatable for Grim.

Well that what was I expected. A few good lines, some story arc stuff laid down and a suitable amount of cheese.

I will continue to watch and will continue to be entertained.

I am very much in agreement regarding the British pair though - badly judged and poorly played.

Started slowly, but once it got going it was fun.

The British pair were the best ones, you losers.

A bit dull, but most first episodes are.

My favourite bit was the "two ways" exchange.

I'm a 1/3 of the way through episode 2. It's really very low rent. I'll give the rest of this episode a go, and then next week, but if it hasn't picked up considerably I'll give up on it and go back to watching Falling Skies and Revolution.

You stopped 1/3 of the way through in order to post an opinion-so-far? The episodes are only about 40 minutes long!

Anyway, I enjoyed that one a lot more than the first one. I'll definitely keep watching!

Forgetting to watch it is probably more time efficient. If you were to remember to watch it you would only forget that you had done about two minutes after it ends.

It's fucking dull isn't it? I know Coulson is supposed to be unassuming but he is also entirely uncharismatic, just like everyone else in it. I dunno, maybe I'm expecting too much but without a Marvel license and Whedon's name attached this would struggle to even get picked up by Channel 5.

The second episode was better than the first in some ways and worse in others which isn't brilliant. After we thought it had finished Mrs B proclaimed it had one more episode to hook her or it was getting ditched; which was instantly upgraded to a two episode grace period after the actual final scene.

The idea of dropping this so you can spend more time watching Falling Skies is just 8) though. Hell, the idea of spending less time hammering nails into your dick so you can watch more Falling Skies would still be madness.

The very last scene of ep2 was awesome.

Also, I really like Coulson.

Also also, I think they need to make sure that the overarching story lines (Coulson's death, girl's allegiance, etc) get decent amounts of air time, and it not just be a MotW type thing every week.

That's one of the things they're at least trying to do right; most new US shows would be pure MotW for the whole first season (essentially until they see if they'll even get a second season to make it worthwhile) but they've baked a couple of over-arching plots in here right from the first minute. As you say though, it's whether they spend any real time on them that's the crux.

I just don't want them to fanny around and get cancelled before we find out WTF is going on.

Falling Skies is *very* boring up to that point, then it takes off.

Plus, you know, Moon Bloodgood...

It's definitely worth persevering with. It's non-too-subtly the American War of Independence with the English played by aliens, but it's good stuff.
