Just ordered. Why? I don't know, I already have a firetv which I've used once. Stupid amazon offers.

So I've given Amazon Prime Now a shot. At the moment it only works in parts of London.

Basically, if you pay them £7 they will deliver within 60 minutes, or they deliver within 3 hours for free. Minimum spend is £20.

I ordered 4x2l bottles of Pepsi Max with Cherry (for an astonishing 60p each), The Last Of Us Remastered for PS4 and a power lead. The app that you have to use is a little clunky, but it's okay. It gives you the option to tip the driver, which was surprising.



About 30 minutes after I ordered, it started real time tracking the delivery driver.



An hour and ten minutes after I ordered, he turned up and gave me my stuff.



I'm rather impressed, to put it mildly.

This is available in our postcode, and I was just wondering about a few things as it might come in handy for when Little Man arrives. I know a few people have said that Amazon Prime can be quite handy with a newborn anyway, but if I can get things like nappies, etc at short notice when Russell is back at work without having to walk the three mile round trip to the stupermarket, it might be a useful service.

So, what does this cost more than a 'normal' prime membership? I am finding it difficult what the difference is between signing up for Amazon Prime and Amazon Prime Now.

Also, for the free 2 hr delivery window option: do they just tell yo a random two hour delivery window in the day that they will arrange it for, or do you get to choose the window from a list of options (10am-12pm, 12-2pm, etc)?

If you get Amazon Prime, you also get Prime Now (and all the TV stuff and shit). It doesn't cost any more.

The 2 hours free delivery window means your stuff will be with you within 2 hours from the second you press "buy".

Also, you should buy a second car so you can take yourself to the shops. I know someone that has a nice Jag for sale.

I will fire them off an email to ask if the Amazon Family which has prime built in also had the benefits of Prime Now. If it does I shall be an unstoppable force in the face of shopping online.

Starting to question the value of Prime these days. Recently everything I've ordered has been 2 days or more.

Then this morning my wife asked me to order more baby wipes. She insists on these organic ones which normally cost me £25 for 12 packs of 60

So I go to my order history, search for wipes and click on the last order. Now the same thing is costing £37.00 plus delivery, but on the same page I can choose 9 packs for £19 and get Prime delivery??

About 10 minutes ago the handheld hoover packed up, so I went to Amazon to order a Dyson DC58, £209 on Prime. Bought it on Tesco with click and collect (Tesco is 5 mins drive from house) for £159, this did include a £20 off voucher as well. Its still 25% cheaper though.

Don't think Prime runs out until September, but I will be shopping around more now and asking myself if next day delivery is that necessary.

I've been thinking exactly the same Asfish. Although I still get things the same/next day, the prices aren't very competitive at all. Especially when you consider that I'm paying £70 odd a year on top of that.

Also, the movie selection on Amazon video is pretty rubbish. If it wasn't for Toy Story 1, 2 and 3 for the kids, I doubt we'd watch anything on it.

I've never been massively blown away by Amazon, it's worth shopping around surprisingly often.

Mrs Hearthly signed up for Amazon Prime a few months ago but I don't think we'll be renewing when the year is up, we don't buy a massive amount from them anyway and as has already been noted, the Prime Video is pretty shit and Prime Music is so awful to use I'm not sure if it's shit or not, but on the occasions I've looked for stuff it's been very lacking.

I've found Amazon is most useful for niche non-mainstream purchases, like I was specifically after a 250GB portable hard drive because my car supports a maximum size of 320GB on USB, and from places like Ebuyer or Currys or wherever your starting point seems to be 1TB these days - whereas I could get some dodgy Chinese branded 250GB drive from Amazon for not much over £20 delivered.

Most of my electronics purchases come from Ebuyer or Overclockers, or even just the physical Currys shop in Douglas, quite often there's very little in the prices between them, and Amazon often isn't any cheaper either.

Also I read something a few weeks ago that says Amazon use clever computer trickery to jack the prices up on stuff you regularly buy from them or they think you'll buy anyway or something, so the price you see for an item might not be the same price that someone else sees. I think that was it anyway.

All I was using it for was Fireman Sam, and they pulled most of it! It was the really old clay model shows as well, for some reason my son prefers these.

And now the wife is watching bridesmaids... It gets worse!

If it's the Waterwipes that you buy I noticed today that they're in a box of 9x60 for £15 at Asda on a current promotion.

They might not be the ones that Asfish uses, but I think they are quite popular. They are made with just water, with no other cleansing agents. I think a tiny percentage of some fruit juice, maybe.

Of course, I ise one of those metal scouring pads with the industrial soap already embedded in the wire wool. Mini Me has an immaculate bum and afterwards I re-use it to make the saucepans sparkle.

Lol, joking. Of course I do the pans first and then the nappy change: nobody wants poo on the crockery.

I like the Tescos ones because they aren't too dry (Boots, Johnsons), aren't too soapy (wtf Huggies?!) and aren't impossible to get out of the packet (Johnsons, Huggies), and gave a flip too lid so no sticky desk to stop sticking. And they're cheap.

Yes, those are the ones. My friend has bought them from Waitrise also, but if your local Asda doesn't bring you out in hives, they are currently on offer there for £15 for 540, (nine packs of 60) which is the cheapest I have seen them.

(Though still obviously the most expensive wipes ever)

Its wireless and you set it up with the Prime App, when you want the product you press the button and the stuff turns up 24 "Prime" hours later

Its protected from little fingers finding the dongle and going nuts, once you press once its sends an email and you can cancel the order, it will also ignore any further button presses 24 hours after the first one.

By all accounts in the US there are 100's of dongles to choose from, the UK has 40 to start with.

There is nothing I use in the list and I can't ever see a situation were this would be of any use. If I need say cat food or anything else I would just get it from the supermarket on the way home from work.

I did have a quick look at Finish dishwasher tablets, on the Prime Dash its better value than Tesco by £2 a box, the best deal on there is the usual Amazon Prime crap where despite it being Prime it has a 2-4 week delivery.

Also the Dash Buttons themselves show a 6-8 week delivery

EDIT it was just the finish dishwasher tablet one with 6-8 weeks, others are available next day.

The only vaguely interesting ones are playdoh and nerf darts.

Oh, I was going to ask that. So, do you always get the same colour(s)? I can see how to order the button, but not what the button leads on to buy (apart from the general brand).

This is quite special isn't it? But what if the price changes on the thing you're buying? I guess if you're looking to get the best deal, this isn't for you.

Also, I can see my daughters pressing this quite a lot if I have one in my house but still... I think I might get one for toilet rolls, just because I can.
