I know.

But "Can only be humiliated" to "Can beat them away" via one signing (and missing half a dozen players) is a little much.

Fer chrissakes, even Bendtner got a game!

Not really. For years, everyone (recently including, it would seem, Gazidis) has been harping on about how they need to buy *some* stars, and that fiscal sobriety will only get them so far. Buying Özil has given them more than assists and an awesome number 10. It's given them belief. So yeah, that one signing has been transformative. They scored against Dortmund away with pretty much their first shot. After over an hour. They'd have wilted previously.

Flamini has also been a big factor, on a practical level. That was a surprise, and also, IIRC, not signed at time of writing.

And did nothing. As per. ;)

Napoli have spent, but they only have that money because they no longer have Cavani or Lavezzi.

Arsenal are an odd one. They could come a decent second. But they could lose to Marseille at the Emirates. Arsenal can win or lose to any of those teams, apart from Dortmund, who can only humiliate them.

O RLY?

Funny that you missed the owl pic in that meme, because their buying the owl-looking bloke has completely transformed them.

So yeah, I stand by what I wrote at that time.

Aaron Ramsay doesn't look like an owl, and they bought him years ago!

;)

Yes, and he was playing amazingly in the two seasons before Özil came along. Three Premier League goals for him in those two seasons in total.

To be fair, he scored three goals in four games before they signed Ozil, and for the past couple of seasons had been both hampered by injury and played out of position.

Admit it, they're better than you thought!

Ramsey's big injury was nearly four years ago (when we met! Unrelated). I mentioned last two seasons specifically because a player could reasonably be expected to be up to speed by that point. But yes, he had been finding form in late summer. That said, Walcott had periods of being amazing last season, and I wouldn't fancy them to beat Dortmund at that point, either.

They are better than I thought, but they weren't better than I thought. :p At the time I made that post, they'd lost to Villa and beat a shitty Fulham in the league. So yeah, they seemed a bit poor.

But Villa are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen, so you can't blame them for that.

As are Munich, and I wouldn't fancy Arsenal to beat Dortmund after losing to them either :)

You don't have to be good in order to lose to the best teams!

Like if it wasn't enough to be qualified again with a little help from the refree, FIFA changes the draw so that France can have a chance to avoid the stronger teams

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-12-05/france-may-avoid-soccer-powers-in-world-cup-as-fifa-changes-draw.html

Who are we likely to lose to in our miserable 2nd round defeat?

Who is 'we' in that table? England?!

If group H plays group G qualifiers in round 2, they will get as far as losing to Portugal or Germany.

Gotta wonder what is going on at Southampton. Cortese and Pochettino have done some great stuff there.

So pleasing to witness Man Utd's empire crumbling in such spectacular fashion. :D

Well, things are getting a bit ridiculous at Bournemouth, but in a good way. Five wins in a row, two points off the Championship play-offs with five games left. We've just beaten QPR and Reading who are both above us.

Do we dare to dream??!?

Na Blackburn are only 4 points off the playoffs now and on a run.

I really hope Bournemouth beat QPR to/in the play offs!

Also, Burnley need 5 points from 5 games to achieve promotion! I can safely say I didn't see that coming at the beginning of the season.

Would love to see Burnley get promoted, though I'd be amazed if they could stay up.

Congrats. Looks like Eddie Howe coming back to Bournemouth didn't just help us. ;)

I think we're out of the playoff picture now. We've drawn 2 and lost 1 of the last three games. Needed to beat Ipswich today.

Well Brighton beat us to the playoffs.
Still happy ending the season on a 12 match unbeaten run, if we played like that all season we'd probably have been up there contesting for automatic promotion.
