Grim, Cras : Where did your avatars come from? Cras looks like some sort of machinegunning Viking, which is awesome.

There was probably mention of this elsewhere, but I'm not Xing Y Zs.

That's really interesting! Thanks for sharing. I've always wanted Donkey Kong on the Gameboy but it always goes for silly money.

You can play it emulated (on anything but I played it on an actual GBA with a flash cart) and its a great little game - Its also one that works really well the second time through the opening as you know that Mario has all these other powers and you can basically jump through the first 4 'classic' levels in about a minute (if you jump into a handstand then jump again you cover the whole height of the screen which gets you to the top)

Truth be told, I've played it to death on my GP2X Wiz but it would be nice to have a proper version.

I used to struggle with the drive home after nightshift, especially since it takes about 45 minutes. My solution has been podcasts. I've totally caught up on the truly excellent 'History of world war 2 podcast' and the 'history of Rome'. They presenters are very relaxed and natural and keep the topic interesting. Because I'm actively listening, it's almost like having a conversation with someone in that I don't feel tired while its on. I'd really recommend something similar for long sleepy drives. I drove up from Wales yesterday and listened to an audiobook-Michael mcintyres autobiography, narrated by him. Really great, the journey flew by and we were giggling for most of it.

The team I'm in in my new job (doing boring as shit financial IT stuff) has an intern who's been here doing work for us for a couple of months. As part of the internship he had to do a presentation to the team of what he's done and what he's learned and stuff which happened a few minutes ago. During the presentation it turned out he'd previously worked at Crytek for quite a while doing, obviously, computer games development. I don't know exactly what he did there but when asked the obvious question at the end of 'would you prefer to come back here or go to Crytek when you finish uni' he genuinely said he wants to come back here and work in my team.

He's an intern here so I'm assuming he's not getting paid a lot; although at least he's getting paid, apparently my company is one of the few that actually pays their interns. What probably blew my mind most was the strong implication that he got his hands on more varied and new technologies from a development point of view here than Crytek. In my head the gaming industry is real cutting edge stuff due to the hilarious time/money/performance pressures the companies are under but obviously I know absolutely nothing about it in reality.

Had no petrol for the mower so took my petrol can to work today and left it in the boot of the car so I could fill it up on the way home. Had a tiny amount of fuel still in it. No more than 50ml.

Got back in the car at the end of the day and the car stank of petrol and the can had expanded! Whoops.

Weird driving a diesel that stank of unleaded.

How come people leave cans of fuel in their boot* and are fine?

* Weird people who can't cope with the concept of keeping enough fuel in their car.

I didn't get one with the shift patterns and nearly drove into a parked car while on a night shift.

Because they tend to be full of fuel, rather than vapour...

Petrol fact: never drip petrol on Tarmac, it properly knackers it!

By which you mean, "Game *testing* sounds horrific." and I agree. The developers get a less horrendous time of it though in that they're actually properly involved in the process and people don't see them as one small step up from cockroaches.

So, these people have sent me an email (note that in the email, they pretend to be someone else):

Quote:
Dear Sir or Madam,

I am emailing you regarding the purchasing of a link.

My client is keen to gauge your interest in formulating a stronger relationship.

My name is Charlotte Brooks and I work for Linkforce Ltd based here in UK. I am working on a project to increase the worldwide SEO visibility, capability and online presence for my client in England.

I would like to place an article on your website containing a link straight to the client’s desired URL, from a keyword of their choice that would be on topic. It would be a small text link contained within the article.

For your part in this arrangement, I would look to pay you for this benefit that you would be extending to the client. Therefore, I would ask you if you would be able to consider pricing options you feel appropriate for hosting a pre-written article, or a link in an already established peace of content in the architecture of your domain.

Obviously I am keen to agree a partnership as soon as possible for this project, so I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

So in summing up : We will pay YOU to host a link in an article on your site for our Client.

Kind Regards,

Charlotte Brooks
SEO Executive
Linkforce Ltd

I'm intrigued as to who is the client that wants to be associated with us.

Who wants to be the official Beex "Text Space Salesperson"?

Do it, but misspell the URL, to see if they get angry.

Actually, is that a 27/b thing?

Last day of being in the "no kids" hotel. It has been great so far, although a little weird at times as there appears to be only 26 guests.

Fucking hell, Twitter is just the shittest website. I went to look at the pictures someone had uploaded but when I clicked on any of them it would flash the image up for a brief second then go to a blank screen. I finally got the images to appear by editing out half the URL but after scrolling through a handful of them it started repeating the same three images over and over even while changing the caption below them. That's a breathtaking level of technical incompetence, it really is.
