I went to 5 different places today and they were all sold out. Gutted. Mind you, my friend informs me that there is a 90 GB update that includes 4K textures for quantum break. Or quantum of solace . Or quantum computer. All quantum leap. Whatever it’s called

It's not that great.

Tbf some of the delivery blocks the drivers get are 18.00 - 22.00 and yet you're meant to deliver before 9pm.

If I'm reading that right, that's pretty bad for both the drivers and the customers? Drivers are told to delivery by ten, but customers are told it'll be there by nine (or eight, in my case)? I may have misunderstood. :)

I called them about half eight and was told it'll be with me by ten. It isn't. :(

You've read right. I've had some blocks last 5 hours when they should be finished in 4. That means if it started at 6pm they might be struggling to get to you.

Luckily I do during the day so I don't really deliver that late. Sucks for you and your delivery guy though.

I’ve ordered off amazon now. It should be coming on a Thursday (ill believe it when I see it) so does that mean a hairy backed Mary will be doing my delivery? Hmmm, Myp? Sort us out will ya.

Now been told the delivery team have had a known issue all day. Would have been nice if they'd been able to let customers know earlier than 10pm, but such is life. This was after the supervisor tried to tell me the manufacturer hadn't supplied the item yet, which was odd, as I'd had an email saying it had been handed over to the courier. Ah well, serves me right for pre-ordering. ;)

Mine came from Amazon, I'm one of the lucky ones. I was told 'by 8pm' on the order page and 'by 9pm' on the details tracking page.

Plus side I believe you're getting a £20 apology?

It won't do 4k on my 4k monitor and hdmi/displayport adaptors apparently don't work either which changes my plans but it's a gorgeous thing and the pad is improved.

Post subject:  Re: The Xbox one thread

£20? No. I was told “definitely no compensation” at first. After moaning that the guaranteed delivery date didn’t have much of a guarantee, I was told a month’s free prime, but as my wife is the prime account holder, I was offered £5 credit instead. Later, the person I’d spoken to at 20:30 called back and offered £10 credit. So maybe £15 altogether, at best. But so far, only £5.

Why does it matter that the account was in your wife's name?

Yes. Supposed to be of some benefit in 1080 too, though possibly not enough to justify the price hike over the normal Xbox One.

I've no plan to get rid of my Pioneer Plasma anytime soon, also don't use the console that much.

But you do look at the hardware specs and think maybe I should :)

Did some reading about Scorpio. It appears to be a really nice console with no exclusive games I want to play and approximately none of the friends I want to play with. gg MS.

Of course, just because we all went PS4 doesn't mean everyone else did. I'm not sure what Microsoft could have done to magically make your friends be on XBox

They could have given us all free consoles and made Doc pay 10 x the normal price.

They should totally do that next.

Sure, although I think what we all did wasn't uncommon, based on other forums and other gamers I know on the Internet and in real life.

"Not sucked out loud at launch", obv:

* mandatory Kinect and associated extra price
* hilariously stupid DRM scheme
* muddled messaging about if it was even primarily a games machine ("TV! TV! TV! Sports! Sports! Sports!")
* some actual good year-one exclusives

We didn't get PS4s until a year or so in, so there was plenty of time for MS to make its case. It didn't even come close. The Xbox One was our default purchase, coming from 360; it was MS's game to lose. And lose it it did.

Yeah, we were all heavily invested in Xbox at that point. They had to do something really stupid to make us all switch. And they did.

Indeed, but I guess what I'm inferring is that seemingly the only way back for MS is for Sony to massively fuck up the PS5 launch.

Post subject:  Re: The Xbox one thread

The way I see it, the PS4 being more successful than the X1 is just the world going back to normal. The 360 was just a freak occurrence in the grand scheme of things.

Post subject:  Re: The Xbox one thread

I should be but my monitor doesn't do the right kinds of 4k apparently. I kind of knew it but had thought a hdmi to displayport adaptor would work.

None of them do.

But until that gets fixed it can go in the living room because it's smaller, quieter, faster, prettier and has fewer LEDs than the one.

There's a pretty high chance of this, Sony are past masters are snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Also, which ever company is 'on top' always thinks they're bullet-proof enough to start doing some stupid customer-fucking corporate nonsense and they'll totally get away it this time round because when has that ever not worked? (aside from all the other times of course) No entity in the universe has a shorter memory than a massive corporation who've been recently successful.

But on the other hand, they aren't likely to have forgotten.

They are, to my knowledge, the only console manufacturer to reclaim top dog spot.

That's less to do with their own actions though and more to do with MS making such a cunt of the entire situation. I mean Sony rightly just focussed on selling their games console by talking about games, but had MS also not fucked everything up I doubt so many people would've made the switch.

That was my point. Their success was due to Microsoft fucking up. Is Microsoft's only way back to the top now if Sony do the same?

Probably. There's a lot if inertia involved in being on a technical platform these days--not least in this case due to the number of your friends that are also on it--so it's more like you need a specific reason to change away rather than looking for reasons to stay. If MS had announced backwards compatibility early on and not been dicks about everything else they'd have utterly and completely buried Sony.

But most of all, it’s a damn sexy bit of kit and looks terrific. I’d say aesthetically it’s much better looking than the PS4/Pro for a black box.

I’ve got Halo: MCC, Halo 5 and Quantum Break so far. I’ll be getting that Cuphead an’ all.

I don’t think it’s a bad time to try the Xbox OX and catch up on some of the games missed out on. Most of all I’d like some Halo 3 MP shenanigans again if more people took the plunge... but they probably won’t. :(
