Games with Gold comes good!

Have you played the original Dreamcast version? I much preferred that one.

Yeah, I've played it but I'm not sure for how long.. I seem to remember liking it but it probably went to the back of the queue.

I still cant pull the trigger on it , but if you want an Xbox one - Amazon again have a 20% off 'select' items in their warehouse deals

So the 'used' version they have with Quantum Break comes down to £112 , and the one with Fifa comes down to around £119

Agreed. I inclined my mouth at the edges whilst reading. At 6:20am, that's like a belly laugh

It is indeed a funny article and the points are well made, this one stands out for me:

Quote:
When you see it in motion it's a glorious thing, but it's basically a gaming PC in a nicer-looking box.

To my mind that was also true of the XBone and PS4 when they were released, and that's a convergence that's only continued IMO. (Hence me going with a Wii-U as it actually offered something different and unique.)

In all fairness to the XBoneX it's quite a lot of power for the cash, you certainly couldn't build a similarly specced PC for the same outlay, although 1TB isn't a whole load of storage with game installs routinely coming it at 60-70GB, and running everything from an old fashioned spinning platter won't be much fun either. (External SSDs connected by USB3.0 might be an option?) The CPU is still those horrible old Jaguar cores, albeit upclocked and with various optimisations. The GPU looks to be kicking as hard as a Radeon 580, which is a decent midrange PC part. (At the higher end of midrange, at that.)

Nothing about the thing even vaguely tempts me. If I do buy another console in the next few years, it'll be a Switch.

Put it like this: the Xbox One X is a monster of near-unthinkable power. Looking at Albert's friends list, the majority of them are using theirs to watch Netflix.

This is actually something the console is good at so I can't blame them.

If I understand this right, the different the Xbox X brings is better visuals for games , if you have a 4K TV? I read a while ago that the games will all be the same and whilst they look better with a 4K TV on the X you won't get anything else extra?

It's something like that I believe. All games have to run on all hardware variants (original/S/X), and the only differences can be in the visuals. (i.e. The game's feature set is the same.)

If you don't have a 4K telly you can use superscaling or supersampling or whatever it's called to make games look nicer on a 1080 set.

Not sure if it's permitted to have the game run at 30FPS on the base XBOne, but 60FPS on the X, or if the X is just allowed to have more shinies at 30FPS.

Like the idea of the hardware, but have no plans to get rid of my Pioneer Plasma so don't see a 4K TV coming into the house anytime soon.

Already got those two as well - still, brilliant games for those that haven't played them.
A bit too short, in some ways - but I suppose if they'd been longer they might've started to outstay their welcome.

There's been an update to the Xbox One dashboard and I'm surprised to say, it's actually an improvement!

As well as your pins section you can now pin individual games to your homescreen. It's difficult to describe unless you know the software but so far, I like it.

Author:  TheCookie197 [ Fri Oct 20, 2017 1:17 ]
Post subject:  Re: The Xbox one thread

It seems a decent bit faster than the old one, but some of the annoyances are still there - you still need to be online for half the damn thing to work, and some things are still in a few too many sub menus

Pins, at least, finally work without an internet connection. Achievements are still entirely inaccessible, though. If they could work on the 360, why can't we have them on the Xbox One?
It's better than it was when it first came out, but there's still a LOT that needs done better.

Brilliant. Again, I've been meaning to play that again for years. What better time to give it a go?

What about the online multiplayer portion of these games? Specifically I'm thinking Crimson Skies. Will that still be available?

Very doubtful. They turned off Xbox Live for original Xbox games years ago

Yeah, I thought that as soon as I posted it.

They have said that you can play local multiplayer by linking an original Xbox, an Xbox 360 AND an Xbox One though so that’s pretty mind blowing.

I found it infuriating around 25% of the way through. There's an instant restart button but it's absolutely useless. You only have to make one tiny mistake and you can forget about getting a medal.

I played some more of Black last night on the Xbox One. It really is a brilliant game and it looks fantastic. I think it’s upscaled or something. It sounds great too. I never had my original Xbox linked to a surround sound system but my Xbox One is and it really does make a difference.

Overall… Black is good! A welcome addition to the Xbox One library.

If I'm reading that right, that's pretty bad for both the drivers and the customers? Drivers are told to delivery by ten, but customers are told it'll be there by nine (or eight, in my case)? I may have misunderstood. :)

I called them about half eight and was told it'll be with me by ten. It isn't. :(

You've read right. I've had some blocks last 5 hours when they should be finished in 4. That means if it started at 6pm they might be struggling to get to you.

Luckily I do during the day so I don't really deliver that late. Sucks for you and your delivery guy though.

Now been told the delivery team have had a known issue all day. Would have been nice if they'd been able to let customers know earlier than 10pm, but such is life. This was after the supervisor tried to tell me the manufacturer hadn't supplied the item yet, which was odd, as I'd had an email saying it had been handed over to the courier. Ah well, serves me right for pre-ordering. ;)
