I would contend that if you could turn the console on by talking to it then it's actually on all the time ;)

I have been getting into the GTA Stunt racing, which has transformed the GTA Races into Trackmania...and I'm finding it better than Trackmania, it also means there is online content that doesn't seem to necessitate being part of a crew.

The GTA stunt races are indeed great

You are spot on. It's on all the time. This is very useful when it comes to downloading patches as it does them all in the background so they're ready for when the console gets used.

Sounds like it's going like the 360.starts with a decent interface, gradually gets slower and more bloaty until it ends up being a fetid pile of shit.

Wrong...

The Xbox One never started with a decent interface.

:this: If anything it's going the opposite of the 360. It just keeps getting better. (Not that it's hard to make something so crap even a little better)

While we're here, Castle of Illusion has just been added to backwards compatibility BUT it looks like Disney will be delisting the game from the beginning of September so if you have an Xbox One and an urge to play Castle of Illusion on it, buy it now.

It's an open beta on the Xbox One too. Perhaps Morte had an early access invite which he didn't mention?

Nope...just got an email from EA with an activation code in it...now I see it's all over the XBone interface.

...It seems to play more like a Star Wars Battlefront game than a Battlefield Game, far too twitchy and manic...and for all the hoo ha about 64 players it seems to be on a much smaller scale than previous BF games.

Nesbox has just been certified to appear on the Xbox One apparently. This is an emulator that will play NES, SNES and Megadrive ROMS from a USB stick.

According to the developer, once an app gets certified then it'll take 1-2 days to appear on the Xbox Store.

I imagine it'll take Microsoft even less time to pull the plug completely branding this a complete non story.

Post subject:  Re: The Xbox one thread

An unexpected plot twist! Rather than release the emulator as an app, the developer has released it to work in the Edge browser of the Xbox one. It's an early release so far but it works fine as far as I can see.

This is Donkey Kong Jnr, on the NES, running in NESBox, in Microsoft Edge, on the Xbox One.

Apparently he knocked it up in a couple of days. That's pretty good going in my books.

He's asking for donations on Twitter at the moment as he's made a note that thousands of people had looked at his site but only 2 people have donated as of yesterday. It seems to be picking up a bit now which may spur him onto improving it but overall, it's pretty damn clever.

I'm wondering how Microsoft would go about blocking it? I guess they could block the page through Edge or since the site relies on your ROMs being in Onedrive, block access to that somehow? It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

Octobers games for gold

Super Mega Baseball – Steam 9/10 IGN 81./10 Google play 5/5
The Escapists – Steam 9/10
MX vs ATV – Steam 9/10
I am alive – Metacritic 69% IGN 4.5/10 Gamespot 8/10

I don't mind the occasional baseball game and this one looks alright. I'm not particularly bothered about the other 3 though.

I had a quick go on Raiden V last night. The gameplay seems pretty spot on but OH GOD THE TALKING.

There's text and spoken dialogue everywhere like it's been ripped from House of The Dead and spewed out into the game (during stages as well - non just inbetween stages) and it congratulates you every time you do just about anything because they needed something to do in the massive vertical borders.

I am hoping that is just restricted to Story Mode (?!) which was the only one I have tried so far.

At first I thought "what the hell?!?" but I quickly got over that and actually enjoyed the muttering in the background. It does seem very disjointed to what I'm actually doing though so it's like having a film on while playing a game.

There's been a new update to the Xbox one which includes 'rare' achievements that play a different sound when unlocked and also, the ability to start a club. This is so you can link up with like minded individuals and play together.

I've started a Club Beex so don't all jump at once to join it. If you can't find it, post your gamer tag and I'll invite you.

We've had one for at least a year on PS4. It's not overly used tbh.

I can't see me using this feature either to be honest, but I suppose it's nice to have.

Anyway, as part of the new update they've added "Rare achievements". I was looking into how this would work and it's actually quite clever. Now, when you look at an achievement for a game, it will tell you the percentage of gamers who have played the game and unlocked that achievement. If it's below 10%, then that's rare achievement and it will play a different sound when unlocked. There's also a little diamond next to it.

It's a nice addition and I guess it will reignite some peoples interest in achievements.

Sounds quite cool. On the PS4 it tells you the rarity of a trophy in the game list. I've had my time with achievements though. They sucked the fun out of gaming for me as I became obsessed with completion percentages and all sorts of nonsense and it stopped me playing a lot of things last gen.

I've just looked and I'm on 58565. I know what you mean about spoiling some games though as I went through that phase. I didn't want to start anything unless I got a fair few achievements out of them. In a strange way, I was also worried what people would think if I started a load of games but never completed anything as a few friends and I used to mock someone else we knew who did just this.

Anyway, I've got over that now and I'm happy to have come out the other side and am back to wanting to enjoy games....Now, if only I could find an Xbox One game I enjoy....

I'm playing Zombie Army Trilogy at the moment and whilst it's fun, I'm not sure there's enough variety in it to hold my interest for to long.

Just checked mine and it's at a lowly 25,674. I haven't played a 360 game for a couple of years - all my recent stuff has been on PC games or the two Wordament apps (it's a shame more people don't play Snap Attack really, it's an excellent Scrabble-like game).

The main reason I stopped playing 360 games was due to the noise my console was making, so maybe I'll get an Xbox One in due course. Although now the PS4 has VR, I might just go down that route instead.

Just to make things worse on the achievement front, they've added a monthly leaderboard so you can see how many more achievements you need to get the gold spot.

I can see that spurring some people on.
