Mimi wrote: Well, I didn't sew much after that top (wedding stuff kind of took over I guess), but these past few weeks I have got my old replacement machine out (the first blouse I did ended with my old sewing machine breaking) and I have been trying to incrementally teach myself a few things about fabric, sewing skills and finishes and fit. Saturday evening/Sunday morning I made a dress: I even put a little lace collar on it which I embellished with a few pale pink pearls to complement the light pink in the checkered fabric. I need a slightly lower cut top underneath to not show above the neckline, but it would have been a bit too chilly to go out without sleeves yesterday. I'm very happy with it so I'm going to try a wool-blend yellow based tartan shift dress next. |

I have made a thing! I'm very proud of the thing, it's the first time i've done a thing like it and the thing has come out very well, if I do say so myself. Unfortunately I can't tell you about the thing yet, or show you a picture, as it's an anniversary present for the mrs, and she occasionally comes on here. <waves to Mrs T> We went with the US and it's a paper theme for us for the 1st anniversary. I shall post a pic as soon as Mrs T has seen it, I expect it won't be too long, she is unable to resist gift temptation, so I doubt it will stay ungiven for long, even though our anniversary isn't for another 6 weeks or so... |

I'm really pleased with how well it came out, and it was super easy to make. For the flower, cut out a load of petal shapes from paper, scrunch them all up and unfold them. Then just keep sticking them together from the middle outwards I used some paper with a pearl sheen to make it stand out a bit. The stem is wire wrapped in paper, with a couple of paper leaves, then spray painted with a metallic copper paint. Mount it to a board and whack it in a frame, and done To about 3 hours from start to finish. |
