Argh, fucking cocksuckers, i was doing the singing tour on rock band but I thought I wasnt in the mood so i turn off my xbox 360 and then press eject to put GTA in and the thing decides to do the red lights. just wondering who else have had the problem and whats it like to get fixed and that, anything I have to do, anything I shouldnt do and how long until its back and that.

Fixing took very little time.

Took about 2 weeks from UPS knocking on my door to pick it up, to having it back safe and sound.

Do not wait for a box, whatever the website tells you. YOU WILL NOT GET ONE. Just phone UPS and pack it yourself. Or use the website. I never phoned a single person - I'm a social leper, me.

Phone MS up and talk to them - they were superb, as far as I was concerned, and had a box out to me the next day, with a bag and packing foam and instructions.
And yes, you unplug everything, including the hard drive. Take the game out, too!

No hard drive or anything. Literally just the main unit. No discs in the tray, no mem card, no hard drive, no cables, no power supply. If they want you to put anything else in they'll specifically ask.

Yes! As you are unlikely to be getting the same console back, and you wouldn't want a blank hard disk back, would you? The bare console, with every removable bit removed. Bubble wrap it and box it and call Microsoft. They email you a label, print it and stick it to the box. Call UPS at the number on the label, they come and pick the box up. Then you wait for the return.

I should point out that because I used the website method, they emailed me stickers to print out and attach to the box for the UPS guy to scan. Instructions are included with that, but if you don't have a printer do phone, as otherwise the UPS guy has to sort out stickers his end and I imagine it may get confusing.

Also, Doctor Richard Gaywood, when mine packed up I got sent the same console back with a new motherboard (launch machine so still a MKI). Not sure if that's just because the rest of the MKI's have packed in good and proper now and they didn't have another to send, but I certainly have the same machine I sent off. Licences still work and everything.

In a last ditch attempt to fix it I have tried kissing it better but to no avail. Ill give them a ring; hopefully they will be able to understand me despite all my sobbing.

I did phone, as the website wouldn't work, and they emailed me links to print out the labels. I think you'd have to ask over the phone for alternative methods

I didn't say the same as Grim... though. He got sent everything, like the packing. He seems very much in the minority there.

I got my first machine back the first time it failed (DVD drive packed up) but it took nearly three weeks. The second time (RRoD) it took four days, but I got a different one back.
