Ok, so I picked up GHII a couple of weeks ago and I've whizzed through Easy (five starring all songs) and also done the same for Medium, EXCEPT for 'Instutionalized' by Suicidal Tendencies. I can get four stars fairly easily, but I just can't seem to cope with the tempo changes well enough in order to get my Star Power up to a decent level. I don't want to start on Hard until I've done this song on five stars, so it's immensely frustrating.

I thought we could use this thread to share tips, and also to discuss which songs we just can't get the hang of (players of Rock Band, Ouenden, etc, you're welcome here too!).

If it's any consolation, that sounds like my experience too - it was a bugger of a song to get 5 stars on. I can't really offer much in the way of tips besides practising it and doing other 'warm-up' songs first. GJ's got my GH games so I'm hoping she'll be getting the hang of medium soon ;)

I decided to go back on my decision to not attempt Hard until I'd five-starred 'Institutionalized', and I'm glad I did. I'm now up to 'Cherry Pie' and enjoying it much more than Medium. I think I've found my level where I'm finding it a good balance of being both fun and challenging.

I've just done it now, and smashed your score by about 17,000 points. ;)

Institutionalised was the last song I got five stars on in GH2. It's a complete bitch. I really strugged trying to jump to Hard in GH2 and 3, but Rock Band seems to make the transition a little easier, touch wood.

I think I've reached my limit in GH2. Really cba to push into Hard, it's no fun.

OOOH. I just fired this up to see if I could offer any advice and remembered what a horrible song it was so had a go at Freebird instead and hit all but 17 notes then went on Laid to Rest and 100% that.

So my advice for getting better at it is to not play it for 6 months then go at it again.

Hope that helps.

I was quite pleased with myself as I was only 5k behind you on the same song. I found that upping the difficulty to Hard on the 'easier' songs made it seem a whole lot easier when I went back to it again.

Talking to Zardoz about Guitar Hero has reminded me about this topic. After what seems like ages I've finally managed to finish 'Freya' on Hard in GHII. I'm now stuck on that stupid Jane's Addiction song for the encore ('Stop'?).

In GHIII I'm now stuck on '7. Live in Japan' on Hard with the Slipknot, Disturbed, QOTSA and Muse tracks. I honestly I don't think I'll get any further than that, but I'm not ready to stop trying just yet.

I managed to get the 'Tone Deaf' achievement by playing 'Slow Ride' on Expert with the sound off. It's the only song I can finish on Expert.

Fucking Freya. The most boring song to play in any Guitar Hero, ever.

Duh-DUH! Duh-duh. Duh-DUH! Duh-duh. Duh-DUH! Duh-duh (repeat until the stars burn out).

When I'm allowed back on the 360 (Viva Pinata 2 aaaaaaaargh!) I'm going to have a pop at GH2 on Hard. I've completed all but 3 songs in RB on Hard (just Run To The Hills, Flirtin' With Disaster and Green Grass And High Tides to go) so I think I'm finally ready for the jump up.

Also, I assume everyone's seen the GH: World Tour track list? Given how much crossover there is with RB2, I'm not sure if it'll be worth getting just for Purple Haze and Pretty Vacant.

Still top fun though, and you did get slightly better the more you played it.

Yeah, it's good fun I wouldn't buy it though, that was probably the peak of my musical abilities right there.

I didn't bother with RB, so it's still on for me (as long as the price is more reasonable).

It's slightly better value; current cheapest price for RB is £135 delivered from Amazon, vs £150 for GHWT which comes bundled with an extra guitar if you preorder. It certainly ain't cheaper though.

HMV were selling Rock Band (instruments + game) for £125 in-store yesterday. Presumably they still are today. Seems like a good price but still don't think I can justify it. Though I did get £400 overtime this week. HMM!

What is the point of them? Genuinely. All I want to do is pick up a plastic guitar and play a tune I like - is that too much to ask?

As a Wii Guitar Hero player it's going to be World Tour for me. The controller incompatabiltes in Rock band and so little info on Rock Band 2 Wii make me weary of buying into it.

Just wish they release a drum+game bundle for World Tour though.

I'm at the stage now that GH3 is getting a bit boring on medium (5 star most of the songs, even 100% a couple) but impossible on hard (done the first 4 songs but that's it). I can't do the up-down strumming to save my life and so any quick long series of notes just kills me. I've got no rhythm.

I guess they were just trying something a bit different, rather than just rehashing GHII with different songs. I doubt it'll be in the next one.

You can still do that. Boss battles are there in the Career mode, but you can just have a quick twiddle on your unlocked tracks any time.

the boss battles arent that bad on hard, its when you get to the last set of songs and there pretty much harder than most of the expert songs. terrible difficulty curve.

Type the cheat in
Go to quickplay
Play a tune you like in any difficulty

I managed to break through another glass ceiling last night; I managed to complete the Slipknot and Disturbed tier 8 songs on Hard. Obviously playing left-handed for the last week has somehow made me better... just '3s & 7s' and that sodding Muse track to do to get to the final stage now!

aaah, tier 8.

Cliffs of Dover on hard is ace, but its annoyingly difficult on Expert...

Slipnot on Expert is a joke. a hard, cruel joke.

some songs are greatly improved on hard, others are not.

"mother" on gh2 is awesome, even if a bit on the easy side. "miss murder" is really annoying on hard. i completed it, but i don't want to see it again
