I'd still suggest to people they fit a drive internally, given how easy and neat it is. But there's more things you could do here e.g. buy an affordable smaller SSD for internal use (holding the OS and one or two preferred games) and then a larger, cheaper HDD for the rest of your library.

The Quick Menu will cover less of the game screen, and you’ll now be able to create, join and manage Parties on the go, meaning you can connect with friends without having to leave the game.
Oooh, that's nice.

Oooh, of course: an external HDD could be a 3.5" desktop sized ones, which are a lot cheaper at larger volumes.

PS4 Pro boost mode is interesting.

Playing games with no PS4 Pro mode in that hardware profile.

Seems like it would mostly be a boost in framerate to games with variable framerate, less dips in games with locked framerate, and more consistent resolution for games with dynamic resolution. But games which are locked at 30fps will remain so.

Kind of like what you can do with a hacked New 3DS, forcing games to run in New 3DS mode, for pretty significant performance improvements for some games, but also bugs and glitches in other games.

How'd you get in that? I'd love to smash in my ex.drive so I don't have to keep juggling a bunch of shit around on my 500gig. Bloody Doom takes up almost 80 gig and I've had to delete CoD: IW and Uncharted 4 to play some games from Christmas. Having an external drive would be ace for us who don't fancy opening up the machine.

Colour me badd interested. Let's say I go the route of fitting a 1TB internal drive like this.

And in addition I get a big external hdd. Is the approach here to basically copy games from the external HDD to the internal HDD when you want to play them? Or can one play them straight off the external HDD, but you might get worse performance?

As long as you get a USB3 external caddy you should barely notice a difference. USB3 is comparable in speed to current SATA.

Resogun - I fired this up on the PS4 last night. It's still a mighty pretty thing when all guns are blazing.

But I couldn't help noticing there are only two Beex People* on its leaderboards (who I'm PS friends with, which is obviously not an exhaustive list).

I'd have thought this was a game that was bummed hard here. WHAT GIVES?

on other news.. i just connected usb3 have (70 pounds for 2tb WD Passport), for some reason it didn't work when put in the right usb port (i guess that's a usb 2?) but it did work in the left one.. works like a charm, but why doesn't it have a usb port on the back it makes me think...this looks ugly, but 2,5 TB in total is quite nice, so now redownlading stuff i deleted, and bought fire watch in the sale...

Friend request sent!

I'm playing Resogun on PS4 and Vita. Must say I prefer it on the big-screen, the spectacle of a well-timed overdrive on a screen full of enemies is mind-blowing. But it's super on Vita too. Just trying to make it cross-save properly as it doesn't feel like my unlocks are carrying over.

I played a lot of resogun at launch , however at some point later on they totally reset all the leaderboards and i;ve not went back to re-play (I think on one of the resogun threads you have me and Ian posting screenshots of our scores for a while)

Help me Beexy-Wan K'nobbers, you're my only hope.

I paired both my PS4 controllers with another console while I was away this weekend. Now neither of them will pair again with mine. I've used a cable to connect but it won't see them, I've tried holding the PS and Share buttons and I've even tried resetting them using a pin to the hole behind the L1 trigger. Now it's stuck on the Welcome Back screen and I can't even boot into safe mode because it still won't recognise the controllers even in there. Also tried a keyboard but it doesn't recognise it either.

Basically I'm stuck.

I knew posting it up here I'd resolve it straight after. Changed the cable and it worked first time. Weird that the other micro USB cable would charge it but not sync it.

PS4 Firmware Update 5.00 Full List of Features Revealed

Sony’s outlined the full list of features that you can expect to find in PlayStation 4 firmware update v5.00, and it’s much the same as what leaked recently. To recap, the platform holder’s redesigning sub-accounts on the PlayStation Network to make it easier for adults to control what their children can and can’t see on the console.

It’s also adding in new language support, improving broadcasting features, and revising the Quick Menu so that you can access your Notifications without quitting your game. Other features that it’s adding include a new Friends List management tool which will allow you to create custom groups of buddies, and it’s also going to allow you to select your Notifications pop-up colour.

To be honest, there’s nothing really all that exciting here at all, so it’s definitely the weakest major PS4 firmware update that the console’s received since launch. But to be fair to the hardware it is in a very sturdy position already, and while there are certainly still some things that we want (system-wide supersampling on PS4 Pro, for example), that list is very small right now.

Hackers have made significant progress on the PS4 just recently.

Coolest feature in my mind is that they've managed to unlock the PS2 emulator, and it appears to be able to play pretty much any PS2 game, with 4x original resolution, significant improvement to framerates, and quicker load times.

You need to be on fw 4.05 though.

Yeah, hopefully later firmwares get some kind of hack soon, I'm on 4.50.

I imagine they'll keep that kernel hack private (unless Sony patch it), but other exploits may be found/released in the meantime.

*braces self*

So, my PS4 has a 2TB drive in it, and I've just got a PS4 Pro. I'm still keeping the PS4, but I guess the Pro will now be the "main" one, so it makes sense to swap the drives over, so I can fill the Pro with pointless shit I'll never play.

From what I can gather, I need some kind of USB drive to plug into the old PS4 to backup as much as possible, then throw that drive into the Pro, restore the backup and redownload anything else. Similarly, throw the drive from the Pro into the PS4, and restore/download anything that I want on there.

I don't happen to have 2TB of storage lying around (I think the PS4 is about 1.3TB full, it was trying to transfer that onto the Pro that reminded me it had a bigger drive), so if I'm being selective, is there anything I should make sure that I backup, because I won't be able to redownload it (I'd be thinking about something like PT, if I had PT), or anything else I should know?

*fetches popcorn*

Post subject:  Re: PS4 confirmed

I would do it the other way: delete the largest games off the Pro’s drive until whatever’s left fits onto the backup drive. Obviously anything you have on disk or bought from PSN you can download again and/or let the PS4 copy it back from the disk. I’d delete the largest first so you have the fewest number of things to re-downloads later.

PT is the only instance I know of of something being removed from PSN.

Post subject:  Re: PS4 confirmed

Also, curse Sony for not making PS4 hard drives interchangeable. (I suspect they are encrypted to the system they are formatted in, as a anti-hacking measure. It still makes this all much harder than it could have been.)

Author:  Bamba [ Tue Feb 06, 2018 11:02 ]
Post subject:  Re: PS4 confirmed

Do you actually really need to transfer any of this? I mean save games yeah, but you can do that with any USB drive; and the games you can just re-download them. Obviously that'll take longer but for the sake of avoiding complexity it's a piece of piss to just queue up some downloads and walk away.
