Any TV with the right connection can use the remote (think its ANYPLUS ?) - my Samsung remote works on it

It's any TV that supports HDMI-CEC, which will be most decent TVs bought in the last five years.

I got one of these from Mrs Fop for Christmas.

My PSN is, thrillingly, findusfop, should anyone wish to add me for occasional fun times. I have three whole games, and am downloading PES 2015 because a) it was cheapish in the sale and b) FIFA stopped being fun.

I will go through this thread and add folks at some point.

http://www.beexcellenttoeachother.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=92

Unless you don't wish to be added. In which case I won't.

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

In case you missed it, click here to read about all the great games included in the January 2015 PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection lineup.

Thanks again to all our loyal PlayStation fans and welcome to our newest console owners. Wishing you all a very happy holiday.

I realise that the outage wasn't their fault (though PSN seems a lot more fragile than XBL) but five days extension is pretty pathetic. Will they also arrange for some days off work for the people who missed out, and given that nobody with a new console could actually sign up for a new account they have every right to be unhappy as they'll get f all.

Taking of which, did the hackers get arrested yet?

So I dug out my PX3s from my 360 cupboard and they're knackered. Not overly disappointed as the work around to use them on PS4 wasn't ideal for me anyway.

What wireless headset should I get?

I really like the offical set - somewhere around £60 if you can find them on offer (£80 here at Amazon)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStatio ... eadset+ps4

The only real negative i have is that they need a dongle which takes up one of the 2 USB slots on the front of your PS4

A very easy alternative is whatever set of headphones you use for anything else and plug them into the bottom of the Dualshock - I have a pair of in ear ones which I got with my last phone that work great and are often easier to sort out than the full wireless set

Only just replying to this. The PS4, is the first console I've ever bought where the current content available doesn't justify the purchase . But I would still advise against copying me on that. Although to be clear I already had a WiiU.

I think choosing hypothetical future greatness of the PS4 over current greatness is unwise.

The WiiU has the greatest catalogue of games I've seen for a very long time, and it has them now

New Super Mario Bros U - will, once time has distanced people, will be regarded as the greatest 2D mario ever made. By keeping the graphics similar, they've alienated a huge audience from one of the greatest games ever made. An order of magnitude better than NSMB Wii, NSMB 2, even SUPER MARIO WORLD.

Nintendo Land - also none as the happiest family experience ever.

Bayonetta 2 - a fully nintendo game. By which I mean the mechanics are proudly in front and centre.

Mario Kart 8 - Without a doubt the greastest Mario Kart I've ever played. Even better than Double Dash - the much maligned true classic of the series. A perfect game.

Super Mario 3D World - Another game polished to perfection, which gives is such a sense of physical reality it is unmatched by any other next gen game.

Shovel Knight - My genuine game of the year. I've never had a nes. I've no nostaliga for one. It stands without ironic fandom for retro. It's just genuinely superb.
There are games I suspect I would add to that list (Captain Toad, New Super Luigi Bros, Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter, Scram Kitty etc) but I've just not had time to play them yet. I've spent hundreds of hours in what I listed.

In an era of unfinished games, where spectacle becomes evermore important, I would always recommend Nintendo first, because playing games, when it comes down to it is about the mechanics and, Dark Souls aside, no other console has that understanding running through it's line up.

Obviously, if you've a huge amount of time to play games (or a nerdy obsessive (like me)), then you are clearly going to need more content than a WiiU can provide. But in either case, your first next gen console purchase should be a WiiU. Then, if you play enough to justify it, a PS4 (primarily for the indie output (nidhog) and PT).

Anyone who is only going to play a little? I would recommend a Wii U first everytime.

Does the virtual surround sound work well? I'm tempted by a surround sound set...

It sounds good to me , however I'm definitely not an audiophile - a few reviews where people talk about the 7.1 stuff

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio- ... 917/review

and on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStatio ... B00I8S4E1C

No reviews but only £65 at Argos if any near you have stock http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... 746269.htm

They have said it is in the pipeline but yeah it is baffling how many basic features the PS3 has had for years that have been omitted from the PS4.

Initially I thought they probably cut features because they released sooner than they had initially intended too, but it's been out over a year now and still these features are missing.

I have these too and for the money they're great. You can plug them into a pc also which is pretty handy.

The sound qualitys pretty good but the surround function is probably what you expect, not great.

The only other criticism I have for them is that it's not that easy to change the bass settings etc and to do this you need to use the free app thing which is a bit of a faff.

I'd still recommend these to anyone tho as for the money (£60 no more) they are really pretty good.

Actually there's a little speaker in the controller.

The only reason why I'm keeping it. Well, that and looking at foliage in Far Cry 4.

Playstation Now launch info for US

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/01/ ... #sf6733256

Quote:
You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.

You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.

PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:

Image

There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.

Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.

If I didn't already owned a ps3 if maybe be tempted at $10 a month but that is way too much. Who would buy a ps4 to pay $20 a month to play last gen games?

You could probably buy a decent secondhand console with a load of games for an annual subscription. Granted the library won't be as big and it won't be as convenient but when you're done you could sell it again without making too much, if any, of a loss.
