But it's potentially not worth the cost of investing dev time in for cross-platform games if only one of your set of platforms even has the ability.

Battlefield 4 does it quite well, as the second screen stuff is via the origin website. Which I assume they have just wrapped for the different devices out there.
My gaming TV is right next to to my iMac on the desk, so I have a bloody huge minimap to look at :D

Why did I not know this (about the map, not your desk)?

Must try this when I get home....

It's also great for changing your loadout etc...

I just need to switch up modes - FYI if you play on easy you can learn a lot of the patterns and how to use boost / overcharger etc more effectively - i'm up at about 25million on easy and i'm sure i can do more on there but i can have a go on experienced and see if i can get more than 6 million :-)

However just for you I bumped the difficulty up one and had a quick game :

You'll like this one as well - bonus screen for the end of the first level which beats your score :-)

Attachment:
DSCF5060.JPG

However , I do think you'll do better playing on 'rookie' , which limits your bonus to X5 , allows you a longer gap before your bonus runs out but still gives you a feel for the levels , where the humans drop and what to do when your stuck (generally boost out of the way)

For scores the game is all about keeping your bonus up almost at the expensive of everything else - i'm probably going to go back to trying to save all the humans on a single game which is going to be best done on Rookie (i've came close a few times but have not quite had that perfect game yet)

Yes I suspect I'd have done the same. Not even sure I'm going to get one at all now. At least not for another year at least. I just don't feel inspired by any of the games currently available.

Yeah I've had loads of fun with mine. Don't regret my wife buying it for me at all :luv:

I tried playing DMC on the PS3 the other day horrible, so primitive, such a tiny number of pixels and frames and whatnot. It was like playing snake on a Nokia 3210. I don't know how you poor bastards can even cope with it.

I hesitated myself, but it's a lovely machine to use. It's been almost worth it for me for reawakening my pinball obsession and the PS Plus freebies, well Resogun anyway. Realistically I was going to buy one anyway, so why not have some fun now?

The Wii certainly was, though I think that was as much due to unexpected demand rather than outright pace at the start.

More of the PR stuff from Sony

Quote:
TOKYO, Jan. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. today announced that cumulative sales of the PlayStation®4 (PS4™) computer entertainment system have reached 4.2 million*1 as of December 28, 2013, demonstrating the explosive growth of the PS4 platform.

"The momentum of the PS4 system keeps getting stronger and we couldn't be more thrilled gamers worldwide are enjoying the incredibly immersive gaming experiences along with deep social capabilities and entertainment provided by our network," said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "After a remarkable launch, we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and continuing to explore the power of the PS4 system by adding new features and services, including PlayStation Now, in 2014."

PS4 software sales remained strong through the holiday season with more than 9.7 million*2 copies sold in retail stores worldwide and through digital downloads on PlayStation®Store. A few of the top selling games included Call of Duty®: Ghosts from Activision, Assassin's Creed®IV Black Flag™ from Ubisoft, Battlefield 4™ and FIFA 14 from Electronic Arts Inc., and Killzone™ Shadow Fall from Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS).

Many PS4 owners have quickly taken advantage of the features and benefits of the PlayStation®Plus (PS Plus) membership service. Global PS Plus subscriptions have increased by more than 90% since the PS4 launch*3. PS Plus members have access to the Instant Game Collection™ and can play the full versions of popular titles without a time limit and at no extra cost. Current games include Resogun™ from Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) and Contrast from Compulsion Games*4*5, followed by additional exciting titles in 2014.

PS4 gamers are actively sharing their gameplay experience through the PS4 system's unique sharing capabilities. To date, more than 1.7 million gameplay broadcasts have been streamed from PS4 systems*6 via video streaming platforms, Twitch and Ustream, totaling more than 55 million minutes. According to Twitch, 20% of their broadcasters are PS4 owners*7. Ustream is also reporting an average of 40 minutes of streaming per broadcaster*8. All these gameplay broadcast generate nearly 22 million*9 spectate sessions.

The PS4 system is now available in 53 countries and territories globally.

So along with the 4.2 Million console sales they have 20% (1 in every 5 streams) on Twitch is from a PS4 , 9.7 million game sales - along with a 90% increase in PS+ members

So that's a 2.3 game attach rate per console, including bundles, I guess.

I think the bundles thing may be swaying that a bit given that its still hard to pick up an unbundled PS4 anywhere

http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/checker- ... ystation-4

Whereas you can pick up an unbundled Xbox (or one with the 'free' copy of Fifa)

Xbox One has been available to buy online for immediate delivery since release in the UK, whereas anywhere that has had the PS4 in stock has sold out immediately.

I suspect that if Sony had been able to manufacture more, they would have sold more, whereas the Xbox numbers were demand limited.

The PS4 isn't even out in Japan yet. I'm pretty confident that it's going to take a comfortable lead that MS won't be able to catch up with without a drastic change in strategy (dropping kinect and cutting the price would be a start).

The most expensive free game ever.

I've really gone off the idea of next-gen at the moment. I'm hoping some properly new and exciting titles will help change my mind over the coming months, because at the moment it's just same-old with a few extra pixels. Not worth it, in my mind.

I dont disagree - I'm really enjoying mine but there is not enough out there to draw new people in.

I also think that when we're talking about sales numbers then Microsoft will get a big bump early in the year with Titanfall whereas Sony's first party games dont have quite the same draw.

I wasn't blown away by my quick go on the demo units in Game.

I remember the feeling of seeing PGR running on a 360 for the first time. Now that felt like next-Gen. Even with the jaggies.

Mmmm. Whilst Titanfall has a lot going for it, it's still new IP, with the unavoidable risk that entails. And it's not an X1 exclusive, either. Whereas the inevitable Uncharted 4 will probably be a PS4 exclusive and is a very big franchise

Also news out today that Titanfall is 6v6 max, even as COD and Battlefield go in the other direction with larger player counts. I wonder how this will affect things.

It's very much "the same but better" at the moment.
Resogun could have been a PS3 game with a few less sparklies, and the other games I've got (Killzone, COD and BF4) *are* also PS3 games.

That said I'm happy to pay for those sparklies as I can afford it and and I know that I'd buy one at some point so it may as well be now. By the time the second or third batch of games come out and bring something new to the table I'll still have had plenty of use out of it.

Yeah, my brother in law was working nights so when the argos website refreshed its stock levels at 2am, he'd buy the lot and sell them on ebay.

CEX are also now charging more for a PS4 than for an Xbox One, which is pretty damning.

Hehehe, I'd have been tempted to do the same.
I used to do quite nicely selling Furbies in the bargain pages when I worked at Tandy - They were that year's Christmas Unobtainium gift so I bought a few each time we had a delivery.

No, but it is a "non-Playstation" title which is what counts when someone's weighing up the two consoles.

:this:

I don't regret getting my PS4, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to get one at the moment. Mine is basically a BF4 machine.

Yeah I wasn't really expecting a whole set of exciting new gaming genres to have been invented for it. And to me everything does look miles better, going back to the PS3 was actually quite jarring, makes the new consoles feel long overdue.

If Sony released The Last Guardian right now it'd clean up. They won't. But it'd be nice.

There were rumors that it will come out this year but I don't know - I expect a lead up of new title announcements in the run up to E3 and then a few big hitters revealed then.

The large numbers sold for both the PS4 and the Xbox One should hopefully encourage a lot more 'new' things for both next gen systems rather than a lot of 360 and PS3 titles which have just been ported up.

As for Titanfall I really think Microsoft are betting a lot on it - and although its not an exclusive if its a great title and someone wants it I expect a push on people to get the Xbox one for it (and I think Microsoft will really go overboard on the advertisements for it).

Right now both consoles are suffering a little for 'the same but slightly prettier' as the last gen titles and I do think we'll see this for a while until something special comes out.
