Anyone who's planning on buying their first PS4 soon should make sure it's the CUH-1200 'C-Chassis'. Seems to be an improvement over the launch models. Not worth upgrading if you already have one though.

Unless you want to save a bundle of cash on an old one: http://www.simplygames.com/p/sony-plays ... onsole-ps4

(and can find one in stock, of course)

Falling simulator coming to PS4. This needed a wider audience (cause it's darn good) but I doubt it will have the tactile feel of the Vita version. Still, good news for gamers if you ask me.

I can't see Youtube videos at work and Googling for 'falling simulator' doesn't turn up any relevant results so what are you actually talking about here?

Gravity Rush. Previously a Vita exclusive. I quite liked it but not enough to finish it.

Cool, I heard a lot of good things about that when it was released so hopefully they'll make a decent fist of the PS4 version.

It's not just the first game, there is a sequel on the way to PS4, too. Looks pretty fucking nice.

Snap - I enjoyed it but got maybe around 2/3's of the way through and hit an awkward boss that I just couldn't pass so gave up.

the one negative I had from the game was that you would sometimes get 'lost' with directions - because you can mess around with gravity and float around you could lose where the ground was (until your power bar drained and you found yourself falling off the end of the world)

The comic book cutscenes were a fucking fantastic use of the Vita. I think those will be the biggest loss in the transition to PS4. More so than anything else about the game.

The motion controls on the Vita were great and worked well. I doubt you'll get as much feedback with the PS4 controller without staring into the screen.

I bet fly kicking something in its face will still be ace.

I'm perfectly willing to give new Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps the benefit of the doubt and suggest that it might be a lot of Left 4 Dead/Call of Duty style fun.

But it'll probably be a bunch of bollocks.

Firmware 3.0 due out tomorrow - list of new stuff

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2015/09/ ... r=36969785

Quote:

Everything you need to know about PS4 system software 3.00, out tomorrow

PS4’s 3.00 system software, codename: Kenshin, is available tomorrow. We want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone that participated in the beta. We’ve listened to your feedback and made this system software update even better.

There are a lot of changes in this update, from entirely new features to UI enhancements. While we detailed its key features earlier this month, we wanted to give you an overview of our favourite new additions. This update is focused on creating new ways to connect with friends and players around the world, expanding the social capabilities of the system even further.

Events: A new Events app has been added to PS4, accessible from the home screen. This will give you an overview of activities taking place in the games you play most, as well as official broadcasts.

For instance, this week we have a double XP racing event in Driveclub and a Team of the Week Event in FIFA 16, you can register directly from the Events app. Once registered you can utilise the auto-boot functionality to set your PS4 to automatically turn on and launch the game and Event at the Event start time. Stay tuned for new gaming events and broadcasts.

Communities: PS4 users will have the ability to create and join communities based around shared interests, like games, genres, and more. Communities include a message board with general discussion, screenshots shared by players, and the ability to join parties/games. You can find the Communities for the games you own on the game’s live detail page. See the Communities your friends have joined in the Friends app.

PlayStation Plus: We’ve made a dedicated section for PlayStation Plus, which you can access from your PS4’s home screen. Once there you can easily manage your membership, see the monthly free games to download, as well as deals for PS Plus members, and all of the games you’ve redeemed through PS Plus on PS4. And a reminder to PS Plus members, your online storage for PS4 saves has now increased to 10GB.

Sharing video clips to Twitter: Now it’s easy to share video clips to Twitter directly from your PS4. Maximum video length is 10 seconds, though you’ll have the ability to trim longer clips. Don’t forget – you can double tap the SHARE button to start recording a video, and press it again to stop.

YouTube live: Now you can livestream directly from your PS4 to YouTube. Livestreams will be viewable across YouTube.
Request to Share Play and Broadcast: Want to try out your friend’s new game? Now you can Request to start a Share Play session or watch your friend play via a Broadcast. Your friend can chose to start a Share Play session or begin a Broadcast.

Live from PlayStation: Keep up with the hottest gaming trends by viewing the most popular broadcasts, video clips, and screenshots uploaded from around the world.

PNG Screenshots: If you’d like your game screenshots to be in a higher quality format, you can now select PNG instead of JPEG. To access, press Share > Share Settings > Screenshot Settings > Image Format. We took some comparison shots.

Favourite Groups: We’ve added the option for Favourite Groups to the Friends app, making it easier to access groups of people you play games with frequently. You can see we have favorite groups for Call of Duty, Rocket League, and (of course) our Destiny fireteam. Once you’re in the favourite group, you’ll see the online status for players, what games they are playing, and the option to message or chat in party.

Stickers: From the PS4 system’s Messages app, you’ll see a new option for Stickers. The 3.00 update will contain stickers themed around Uncharted 4, Knack, Little Big Planet3, Resogun, and more.

We’re constantly striving to make PS4 even better, and appreciate all the feedback! We hope you enjoy the Kenshin update, and let us know what you think in the Comments below.

Message boards? It's a nice idea in concept but do they really think people are going to want to type out text posts using the on screen keyboard? I can't think of anything worse.

PNG is absolutely a higher quality format that JPEG (which is lossy (mostly)). I'm not conviced you'll be able to see much difference between a minimum-compression .jpg and a .png though, and the .png will be pretty huge.

Yeah, that. Lossless jpeg exists as a standard, even though it's basically a bitmap.

Yeah, that. Lossless jpeg exists as a standard, even though it's basically a bitmap.

And not many things actually use it.

So here's a timely test case for my recently set up fibre broadband; as well as announcing a subscription payment model for the Playstation Now service (£13 a month) you can also try out a week's free trial.

http://www.engadget.com/2015/10/09/play ... iption-uk/

Interestingly, despite not being on any of the initial model lists I saw, I noticed the other day that my TV even supports is so I might try it there and on the PS4 just to see if there's any difference in performance.

Holy shit. Can't say I was the biggest fan of it, preferring Sensi. But could be interesting.

Reading that link I did wonder why the writer had the temerity to introduce himself. I don't care, you're a writer on the PS blog. Then I realised it was Dino Dini.

In spite of the fact that the only thing at the cottage that I was vaguely interested in was a playable teaser that I wouldn't be able to download for a game that isn't coming out anyway, I appear to have read this entire thread since getting home.

Just saying.

Most of those I could play on something I already own. Not as shiny though, obviously.

Multiplayer is tempting though...

For real 'next'-gensies what about:

Batman: Arkham Knight
Bloodborne
The Crew
Not a Hero
The Talos Principle

??

I didn't really enjoy whichever "new" Batman game I played, and I have no idea what the rest of those are, I am immensely out of touch. My biggest concern is "do I have room for it under the tv?"

Smash your 360 up with a sledgehammer. You don't need it anymore and it was likely to blow up soon anyway.

I have a lot of 360 games that are on my "I'll play them at some point" list.
Also, Sky Player.

Having said that, I'm just sitting here having hypothetical conversations, rather than playing any of those games (or going out like I'm supposed to be).

But I might do.
And that time is now (or soon).
Which is why I'm considering a PS4. No, hang on.

Also, various lego games.

Fuck Lego games up the arse (especially the new one that costs £85). You've played one you've played them all.

£85?
They're for the co-op, although admittedly there probably won't be much of that for a bit. Hence the new and shiny thoughts.
I might possibly be able to hammer through everything on the PS3 that I've invested some sort of time on and get rid of that?

Can anyone, ANYONE, remember Prismatic on the Xbox 360? It was one of those £1 games from the indie section where no one ever went (namely cause there was a dirth of shit games) but there were one or two little gems in there.

Anyway, Prismatic was one of those games and now umpteen years later it's right near the top of PS4's new releases as Prismatic Solid. I mean, wow. Where the fuck did that come from?! It has no video, no screen shots and is being sold for £8.99.

They can get fucked of course but I remember having a reet good blast on the 360 for a quid. Or was it 50p? I can't for the life of me remember. Anyway, don't get it. Or do. Depending on whether it's any good still and they have bunged in 9 quids worth of shooty content.

Oh and can someone please cordially agree that the pricing on PS4's Arcade Archived is absolutely fucking mental. £7.99 for Renegade which I could play on MAME for nowt.

I've just started this and, so far, I can confirm that it is indeed...

... a Metroidvania game. Oh and it's a pretty good one too. The retro-styled graphics are pretty neat but not exactly mind blowing, the soundtrack is better (it does go some way to set a nice atmosphere even if one level is bright pink) and the shooting and jumping (y'know, the game bits) are competent. I haven't any quarrels with it so far, in fact, even though I think I've played a few Metroidvania games recently, I'm really enjoying it and I want to keep going back to it after I've turned it off for a bit.

I think I'll stick with this and Lost Planet 3 can cordially fuck off.

Yesterday I got, and happily accepted, a Real Name request from myp on PSN. It did make me notice though that there's a Facebook style 'people you might know' panel on the dashboard and for all the people it suggested (Curiosity, the Doc and The Egg) it gave me their username and their real name. It seems a bit farcical to make people you're actually friends with specially request you real name if you're going to cheerily displaying it to potential strangers.

It shows you the real names of close friends of close friends. You can change this in the settings if you don't want it to.

I think it makes the assumption if we're good enough friends to know each other's real names, anyone else whose real names I know are also that.

I don't particularly mind either way, it just seemed an odd way round to work things; though you explanation does clarify it and it's not quite as random as I had suspected. And I say that especially because I think it was showing me the real names of other people before I'd accepted your request. Although I'm not 100% sure of that to be fair.

My problem was that when I accepted Myp's real name request, my massive TV was suddenly full of his profile picture, which is a close up of his gurning face.

I don't see a problem with this.

Zaphod hasn't accepted my real name request yet. How else will I find out what his credit card details and mother's maiden name are? :( ;)

You did? I just got a picture of Gerry Adams. Weird choice of avatar, but whatever floats his boat...
