Whee! New baby.

Mrs Chris went into labour last night at about 8 ish, and was fully in denial about the whole thing until about midnight when I called the midwife over and it was a bit harder to deny the reality of the situation. Little chap was born at 4.36am. He's healthy, and came out at a pretty respectable fighting weight of 8 pounds 11.

Labour is a massively rubbish process. Boo, mother nature. Boo!

Congrats, mate! What name did you chose in the end?

(You had it easy, Mrs. Grim... went into labor on Saturday morning, and Sam was born midday Monday)

cheers!

He was confusing the living daylights out of Olly to start with, who was a bit upset that someone else was getting cuddles from us. But Olly seems to have rapidly taken a shine to him and keeps point and saying "Buhbuh!" and giggling, and stroking his hair. To which I can only say "awwwwwwwwwww". A lot.

edit - Heh - The first labour was even quicker - induced and took 3 or 4 hours!

No name yet. he's currently being referred to as "Dr X" by the family and "Richard Gaywood" in my head.

Congratulations. Hope you and Mrs Chris and the other little Chris is doing well.

Love and hugs from Mali Towers.

PS. I was 8 eleven, so MALI is the only possible name.

My congratulations, sir! I give you joy! That's really splendid news and a nice offset to the bad luck and sad news that's been going round lately. Why not call him Phoenix after your lawyer hero?

And does he look like a tiny Winston Churchill? All babies do.

Haha, I just went back and found it. I saw that thread early on, before the poll was added, then didn't revisit it. So, I guess the proud Gaywood name will be continued then :DD

Thanks all!

Despite desperate last minute lobbying on my part Richard Gaywood is a silly name, so we've settled on Samuel. So the world will have another Samuel L who only has two facial expressions - (1) angry and (2) laid back and cool.

We're both running on very little sleep - we'd be absolutely at sea without Mrs Chris's mum coming round to help out the last two days with our eldest (Eldest! Ha! How odd is that to be saying? We have two now! ARGH!) as we've had pretty much no sleep at night the last two nights, and so we've been able to snatch a couple hours sleep each during the day.

Predictably, he woke up our eldest a few times last night with the crying, so Olly didn't seem best pleased. However, he seems to be blaming us for his lack of sleep and is being very cute with his younger brother, stroking his hair whilst shouting "buhbuh!" and such, and he has even given Sam his stuffed dog to hold (this isn't just any stuffed dog, of course. Olly has an attachment to that dog somewhere beyond that which Calvin has with Hobbes. So "aaaaaah!" I say.)

Sam seems to have worked out how to sleep pretty well during the day today, so fingers crossed for tonight - otherwise there may be some late night BETEOing from me and his little feet.

Thanks again all!

And Zardoz - HAHAHAHAHAHAH. Just you wait, sonny jim. :D

All the best. You guys know what I'm like about kids, but I'm genuinely pleased for you all (and will be living with one myself soon enough, so fuck it, I might as well enjoy the ride), and Samuel is an excellent name.

new parents are besieged with unwanted advice, so the only piece of advice I've ever given to other parents or people who have to deal with kids is - when you're changing a young baby's nappy, cover his or her bits with a flannel. Honest. Those things are like hair-trigger firehoses.

I can guarantee you will thank me for this at some stage.

A friend at work learnt this the hard way... with a baby called Sam now I think about it. It got worse 3 or 4 months in when Sam had just got to the point of finding things interesting and was thus able to go "ooh! Flannel!" and pick it up... just in time for slightly yellow doom.

Indeed it is. And an idiot friend of ours thought it would be funny to blow on his son's bits. He wasn't laughing shortly afterwards.
