Anyone who's ever actually said it's literally unusable is wrong because of course that's not true. The actual complaint is that the Windows 8 home screen is much harder to use with a mouse/keyboard and certainly isn't an improvement on the Win7 Start Menu therefore is a UI downgrade for anyone without a touchscreen.
I disagree. I think Windows 8.1 isn't hard to use with a mouse and keyboard at all. Also the start menu, whilst at first was something different, is actually much easier to use than the Windows 7 version. I find that the more popular programmes and apps are all exactly where I need them and it looks lovely.
