I'm from Urmston.

There are more than two ways to Urmston. At least three.

She looked really bad in her latest video (on the TMZ site).

The Independant is carrying the story. They say he died at the recording studio.

Just seen my first Victoria Wood and Prince playing a duet reference. Colour me cynical, but I think it's unlikely that she'd be first on his heavenly gig list.

Prince is dead...? Bloody hell. OK I wasn't into his music, but "When Doves Cry" meant a lot to me at the time, I was 16 and going through some bad, bad times; it resonated somewhat. RIP :(

Victoria Wood also.... so young, both of them. I thought she was utterly brilliant in the self-penned Housewife, 49 :(

Another shocker, not a massive Prince fan but I went to see him when we were given free tickets when he last played Manchester and he was bloody brilliant. What a performer, 2 and half hours belting out all the hits. Another big loss.

Here is my heartfelt tribute to Prince, channelled through the early 90s Maygay fruit machine 'Cluedo' and its collect bank sample, which has a certain poignancy about it now.

Prince is one of the few artists I've never managed to see live that I'd really wanted to.
Looks like I left that too late.

So is anyone buying this 'bad case of the flu' nonsense? Gotta be drugs innit.

EDIT - Oh right, that does appear to be filtering into the news this morning.

A very bipolar artist for me. Some of his songs I loved and others absolutely hated.

Gotta say, 1999 scared the shit out of me as a kid.

Still speculation, but -

A cause of death was not immediately given but TMZ reported that he had been treated for a drugs overdose days before his death.

Oops. I apologise to anyone distressed by reporting Bob Hoskins, since he died in 2014. That's what happens when you don't look at the date on a 'Most popular' item on the BBC news website.

I've noticed that the BBC website has started putting "this article last updated (insert date)" on the obituaries that appear in the most read section.

Ali was a massive pro-wrestling fan. He actually cribbed his persona from Gorgeous George, the legendary wrestling heel, realising that most of the people who came to watch his fights would hate him anyway, he might as well make more money by making them REALLY hate him.
