I'm not really keen on the term "conviction politician" as surely they should all be fucking working towards their convictions but I would definitely classify Charles Kennedy as such. I've got his autobiography and he just seemed absolutely decent and what you want your politicians to be - passionate about doing what's right. |

Little known fact (or perhaps not but it was news to me)...when Ian Fleming was asked to sketch what he thought James Bond actually looked like, he basically drew a young Christopher Lee (they were distant cousins and may have known each other during the war through the Intelligence Service). By all accounts it was only in later life that Lee ever earned any serious cash. I always thought he was like a mega-star in his early years and segued effortlessly into being a sort of senior statesman character. Apparently for one of the Dracula films which earned £28M at the box office, he was paid £750 (!). The best thing I've ever seen him in is The Wicker Man, which I rewatched fairly recently and remains an incredibly good, haunting film.
