It's dark and brooding, and yet so beautiful and uplifting on reflection. I thin it is a fantastic piece of work. A piece of art, really, but I can see how it's not for everyone. |

I've never seen What Dreams May Come, and it's on Netflix, so I'll watch it tonight. I've read the Wiki page and a load of reviews, so I know exactly what's coming, but I'm still looking forward to the film. (I suspect it won't be a dry-eyed experience though.....) Also 'acquired' World's Greatest Dad from elsewhere (not on Netflix), as it sounds like one of Williams great later performances. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%27s_Greatest_Dad I've properly been sad on-and-off today, the piece that zaphod linked to sums it up, Robin Williams can't be dead - and yet he is. It's like a rift in the space time continuum. |

ugh I kept thinking about this yesterday I loved What dreams may come, saw it at the cinema at the time and it's visually stunning and so sad and happy. I keep thinking of more and more things I've seen with him that I loved films, but also him talking sign language with the gorilla there's just nothing to say |

And a fine piece on Williams by Russell Brand in The Guardian today. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre ... oken-world I watched What Dreams May Come last night and found an impressive and effective film but for some reason or another it didn't totally click with me towards the end, however it appears they bottled it for the finale and stuck a stupid saccharine ending on it, despite having filmed the proper one. Reading through the Reddit that Trooper posted the link to, Williams specifically references being disappointed with the ending when he watched the film as it wasn't the one he remembered filming. I'll watch World's Greatest Dad tonight, despite doing fuck all at the box office it was critically very well received. |

I was initially skeptical about this, but a woman on the radio said that at lerast one study had been done, albeit in Iowa with only about 60 people, and that the creative group did have a higher incidence of mental illness about them. But she also cautioned that care must be taken not to romanticise the torment of the artist. I might hit up my pscology lecturer and ask her about it. I'm vaguely interested. |

All of this discussion of depression reminds me of the Richard Herring interview with Stephen Fry where a simple question from an eleven year old “What’s it like being Stephen Fry” prompted his confession that he had attempted suicide the month before. It is quite an emotional listen. http://www.comedy.co.uk/podcasts/richar ... ephen_fry/ |

Morte wrote: While it is brilliant...be prepared...it is pitch black humour. Jet black, but very funny and yes, really quite brilliant. (Watched it just now on Netflix USA courtesy of the 'Hola' Chrome extension, negating the need to watch my 'acquired' copy.) And how fucking good is Robin Williams, I guess the pathos and sadness he brought to the role makes more sense now, but then again he carries the elation of the ending 100% convincingly as well. The film is only five years old as well, so he clearly had the good stuff in him right until the end. R.I.P. Mr Williams - gone too soon. |

The thing that got me about the way this was reported by the Beeb: Quote: Lord Attenborough had been in a nursing home with his wife for a number of years, BBC arts editor Will Gompertz said. Since when did the BBC start referencing its own staff as sources in articles? If someone internal knew the information, why would they credit them? Seems a bit odd. |

Its a fairly standard position that they take to pad out articles when the deceased wasn't on twitter, leaving them low on material. |

I've just read Richard Attenborough's obituary and I didn't realise what a thoroughly decent bloke he was. I know people big up the dead but he sounds like he really was well loved and did a lot for his fellow man without shouting from the rooftops about it. |

Glenn Cornick, original bassist with Jethro Tull. Great player, and if I remember correctly, had his bass on some kind of attachment on his belt rather than a traditional guitar strap. |

Benefit is one of my favourite Tull albums. (Cornick was with them for their first four albums, including Benefit.) 67 isn't that old either Nice to see a generous tribute from Ian Anderson though. Quote: Everyday there's someone asking
what is there to do? Should I love or should I fight is it all the same to you? No I say I have the answer proven to be true, But if I were to share it with you, you would stand to gain and I to lose. Oh I couldn't bear it so I've got nothing to say. Nothing to say. Nothing to say Every morning pressure forming all around my eyes. Ceilings crash, the walls collapse, broken by the lies that your misfortune brought upon us and I won't disguise them. So don't ask me will I explain I won't even begin to tell you why. No, just because I have a name well I've got nothing to say. Nothing to say. Nothing to say. Climb a tower of freedom, paint your own deceiving sign. It's not my power to criticize or to ask you to be blind To your own pressing problem and the hate you must unwind. and ask of me no answer there is none that I could give you wouldn't find. I went your way ten years ago and I've got nothing to say. Nothing to say. Nothing to say. |
