We were musing on getting a Wii for the kiddles this christmas- is it something they'd get any enjoyment out of at ages 3 and 4?

I was playing games on a spectrum by that age.

I'm sure they'd love it.

Grim... - if it's out by Christmas, together with basic enough games, I'll go for that instead if it's cheaper than a Wii. That said, the option of watching iPlayer on the telly is quite a draw with the Wii...

Dave - the difference is, of course, that my children aren't Meekons.

I'd written my first novel, and worked out what happened to BA Flgiht 9 at that age.

I'd conducted a land war in Asia, and won, by that age.

I wouldn't get your hopes up about that. The wii wifi is legendarily shit.

I call shenanigans. You would have fallen victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"

:boots:

Dave - why would i need wifi?

Because the wii connects to the internet via wireless means. And you need said internet for iplayer.

There is an overpriced dongle for a wired connection, assuming the wires are in place.

Because it doesn't have a wired network hole.

If I remember rightly, the Wii has wifi built in but you need to pay extra for an ethernet adaptor.

And the built in wifi is shit. Most channels don't work. Which is a pain if you happen to have a fixed channel wireless point (*cough* BT hubs)
And even for those that do work, the speed is often shit. (My wii, for instance, can't use iplayer, despite the ps3 right nexct to it being able to, and the computer next to it being able to, and the router being a matter of 3 meters or so away, and in an area with little wireless congestion)

As has mine.. I haven't used it much, but it's worked whenever I've wanted it to.

My Wii is about 4 inches away from the router though. Maybe that helps?

I thought I'd just got a defective one. Until about 3 years later when I looked up said problems on internet.
