Exactly. It isn't exactly complex, but it's extremely intuitive, logical and elegant.

It's almost like comparing certain Japanese strategy games like Disgaea which rely on ridiculous rules with western games like UFO or X-COM where the tactical combat isn't as complex but makes much more sense.

I didn't find Disgaea all that nonsensical. Except in fun ways.

What i was trying to say is that is most western strategy games, like x-com or Total War, rules like "being uphill good, downhill bad" or "flanking good, being flanked bad" are usually present and are logical.

Is Disgaea for example, there's an incentive to grind and there's all those rules and coloured pyramids on the floor. And what about the absolutely bonkers character progression? or item levelling for that matter.

I like the game though, but i think its rules aren't really elegant or intuitive.

*nods* Just like Disgaea, then. :)

I think the colours and bonkersness add to it. Sure, it's not all that naturalistic, but it's a series of slapstick comedy epics about dysfunctional demon overlords. It doesn't need to be realistic, and those added oddities actually fit the aesthetic.

Cor, that was a terrible trailer.

Are there any good deals on the pre-orders yet? I wouldn't mind some pointless tat for this.

What platform ?

PC you can get a key from someplace like Simplycdkeys for about £25 (probably less with a code if theres one around) - Zavvi seem to have been the only people discounting the 360 and PS3 versions

http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/02/04/dark- ... 360-31-48/
http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/02/04/dark- ... ps3-31-48/

But thats still nearly £32 and its Zavvi so no guess on when you'll actually get it

It's gotta be From Software's native platform for the Souls games, PS3.

I'm thinking that I'd like to shell out for the silly figure this time but it doesn't look like you get the comic with that edition. Amazon ain't even got prices up yet for anything other than the PC at £40.

Not as good as dark souls, but I suppose you have it from ps+

Usual warnings apply, hard, unforgiving, and may be liable to break every other game by showing them up as not being anywhere near as satisfying.

Game is still under a review embargo but Famitsu have their review in the latest edition

http://segmentnext.com/2014/03/06/dark- ... excellent/

Quote:
Dark Souls 2 Review by Famitsu Paints it Excellent

One more week now and many of you will be screaming at your screens because you bought the next installment of one of the toughest RPGs.

Dark Souls 2 is inbound on March 11, but the review embargo is still intact on the game. However, Famitsu has managed to pull off their Dark Souls 2 review in the magazine’s latest issue.

Just as one would expect, the Japanese magazine has stamped the game with highly positive reviews. Their Dark Souls 2 review has given the game 37 out of 40 points.

From Software’s hardcore action RPG has managed to equal the score that its predecessor had received from the same magazine. The original Dark Souls was also given a 37/40 where as Demon’s Souls received 29/40.

Sadly, not much is known about the contents of the review other than the score itself but rest assured, we shall keep you updated just as we get more information out of them.

This is only the second Darks Souls 2 review that we have known of so far. Last month, M! Games, a German magazine had awarded it 90/100 after crowning it the hardest action RPG in the world. This is 2 points ahead of what they gave to Dark Souls.

The initial reviews are pretty encouraging, but will this continue when the embargo is completely lifted and every reviewer gets to voice their opinion? What do you think of the rating given by Famitsu in the Dark Souls 2 review?

If they can make the camera work better, and not make you go over the same bits over and over again, I might enjoy this one.

Who's that for? P-Bloody-C owners? Get a console you spaffy spivs.

I'm going to the one with the useless figurine with mine, if I can. Then I'm going to open the box and foddle it. Yes, I'm going to open the box and ruin any collectors worth.

Yeah but if i get a console where can i fit the extra LED's to and what happens if i want to upgrade it to have an extra flange warbler next year ?

Too much hassle - i'll just stick with the boxy thing that just plays the games.

(If it was coming out on PS4 i'd buy it there but i'm trying not to buy anything on the 360 and go through some of my backlog on there while instead buying things like Titanfall and this on the PC instead :-)

If you're offering to foddle someones shit up then I, for one, would like to take you up on that offer. Foddle away, Sir.

Good thinking but remember, the Dark Souls thread is a spoiler zone where people come to aid and assist one another and tell the stories about how they got their shit foddled.

My shit will be foddled many times.

Although I'm having a debate with myself as to whether I want it on release or wait for a few patches.

although the only things I remember in 1 were souls from skeletons (big whoop) and less aggresive dragon arses.

Didn't we have this discussion before in the Dark Souls thread? To be the greatest Dark Souls player in the history of the world you must have finished Dark Souls 1 before the first patch.

I expect it'll be the same here.

Just found the value in numbers in reviews. When you've preordered the collectors edition like a mentalist, and want to check the game is good, but don't want to read any spoilers. It seems to be getting 9s and 10s all over the shop, so that's reassured my about my £72 purchase.

FAKEEDIT: Just checked, price matched to £62 - so slightly less insane! Yay!

(I'm only buying it to give From as much money as possible in thanks for Dark Souls 1).

Mmm, Xbox version tied to slow starting OS and not being allowed to login to live or PS3 version tied to shit triggers or alternapad with not great shoulder buttons.

Mmm

IGN 9/10 : http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/11/ ... s-2-review

I like this from the Eurogamer one

Only a little, though, and when the worst you can say is that a game is only nearly as good as Dark Souls, that's still a pretty strong recommendation.

I played the full game of Dark Souls through on 360 and then bought and played it through again on the PS3. Despite the elapsed time the online component was soooooo much better on the PS3. The legacy from Demon's Souls meant that there were always just so many more people playing it at any one time. More invasions, far, far quicker to invade, more ghosts etc. I got more online experiences in one hour on PS3, than I got my entire time (post patch) on 360.

I hate the PS3 controller, but it matches Dark Souls very well. Especially how easy it makes gestures.

If you've both consoles the PS3 is the clear choice.

I don't trust early reviews. With a game as big as this, and presumably with the online component off, how can you really trust what they say as gospel. It's bound to be more of the same, really, so it'll never be as good as the first which was unlike anything at the time (apart from Demons Souls. Natch.)

I'm hoping, at best, for a bit of Advance Wars 2. More of the same, but with additions that slightly diminish the perfect balance and magic of the original.

Amazon is still 'preparing to dispatch' for me. They are going to fuck me over again I know it. I've such a small window I can play it this weekend, I will desperately need cheering up and they are going to let me down.

I'm a fool.

I was going to start Demon's Souls this week but decided on Uncharted instead.

Amazon dispatched my copy at 6pm last night.

It won't be here today.

GRUMP.

I have 2hrs tonight before I have to spend all weekend travelling and sorting out a funeral. I put a lot of stock in Dark Souls to relax me.

I'm such an idiot. :(

Buy it in a shop and return the Amazon one when it arrives?

I have a feeling Dark Souls is going to be my Ulysses. I started it for the fourth time this week and am approaching the point at the beginning when the dragon drops you off and I can see me getting distracted again when I bump into some skellingtons.
