I'm still not seeing anything to tempt me to upgrade from my 6S with a ten quid per month sim.

Here's the Apple Upgrade Programme monthly pricing. This is more realistic pricing; few people are paying upfront for unlocked phones.

NB -- this is just the phone; no cell service in that.
NB2 -- these prices include AppleCare, the extended warranty / cheap repairs service. Apple isn't quoting the price without that yet.

Don't lighting conditions fuck with it's recognition abilities in existing Android handsets? I've never bothered with it but without the Kinect-sensing Apple have added I wouldn't have expected it to work when it's dark.

But, yes. £1100 for a phone is ludicrous. That's almost 10x what I paid for my Moto G. Is it ten times better?

I remember when I got a Samsung d500 on contract, the phone cost was £1000. Contract itself was sensibly priced though.

I don't know about Android models but my Lumia works in pitch black so the technology there is fine. I imagine the Apple tech will do exactly the same.

Also: used facial recognition on the nexus 4.worked well enough, didn't have to do anything out of the ordinary. Indeed it was annoying in that it would often unlock when I didn't mean it to. (see concerns about payment)

Much prefer the fingerprint sensor on the 5x. Facial recognition is a step backwards.

I get work phones for users locked to VF from a tech fund we have with them as part of the contract.

However if I get a user who has lost or broken their phone then I buy the same model unlocked from a reseller and charge their cost centres

There has not been a stable channel for unlocked 7 models since they were released.

I just ordered £80,000 worth of the new Ipad Pro's for a sales force refresh and have been told I might get an idea of delivery times in 3 weeks

Same statement from 3 resellers.

At the last refresh we sent them all back as we leased them. The outgoing ones this time are purchased
so not sure what we will do

Thinking we might see if VF will take them, they take the old 5S and give us £50 each and put that into our tech fund.

Also got people circling from the business :)

Ok will do :)

Not sure when the new ones will arrive, then the update takes ages as 80% are field based and take time to catch and upgrade.

Only reason I ordered now was the finance said they had money and wanted the cost in 2017 budget

It's specifically Android models I was asking about if you read my post because I'm pretty sure they don't use the fancy tech.

Nothing in that keynote particularly interested me enough to move away from my 6. No TouchID is a dealbreaker for me, so the X is out. My 6 is starting to get quite sluggish and is obviously struggling with some newer apps, but not even wireless charging is of enough interest to really make me move to the 8.

I had to set up a new work phone last week

Normally I never back anything up as work email is on Exchange and my pictures all go to OneDrive. This is all I have to worry about so I just do a new phone build then install my apps again

This time I built the new phone from an ICloud backup, I'd bought 50Gb of storage so that we have backups of my wife's personal phone so my phone backups where on there as well.

The backup all went well but I found that after a day 90% the restored apps where on the phone but had "waiting" status.

So in the end I just went to the app store and installed them all from there.

Also with my text messages it only restored messages that had been sent to me, not ones I had sent.

Is this normal for a restore?

Yikes! Line rental is worth next to fuck all these days. I recently got the end of my contract and decided to go sim only with our new broadband supplier (BT). I then got ping-ponged between EE and them until I ended up with 10GB a month and unlimited texts and minutes for £9 a month to stay with EE.

My father in law has recently re-discovered his old iPod Mini which has a ton of music on it he bought through iTunes. He has zero memory of his iTunes account details.

Anyone had any joy getting music off an iPod and onto a PC? I found something called icopybot but have no idea if it's dodgy or not. Any thoughts welcome.

My understanding was that the music is on the file system of the iPod and viewable as normal when connecting to a PC but that the folder system and actual file names were essentially obfuscated so you couldn't know what something was just by looking. The ID3 tags are kept intact though so if you import them into a PC app that deals in ID3 then you can organise and play them back that way. If not then there's bound to be something that will rename and reorganise based on the tags.

I had a similar situation and did this and it seemed to work, though some of my audiobook chapters refugees to play in the proper order afterwards.

The iOS11 update ‘files’ thing. I’m so (easily) confused.

Let’s say I’ve got a PDF that I am annotating. I’ve got it open in my iPad and adding annotation. Can I save that to the files and then open it with the annotations in my phone to keep annotating it? Do I have to save it in a difficult place?

Not used this but just had a look..

When I opened it I was presented with my Cloud storage (OneDrive and ICloud)

I opened up a PDF from Onedrive and used the pen to make some lines on it to test :)

I then clicked done and the changes were not saved

So I tried again then I found a save button and was offered to save the file on my Iphone (which didn't work) or my ICloud drive.

I saved it to ICloud and this time when I opened the file from there the changes were saved. I then added some more lines and just clicked done and these 2nd changes saved also

So looks like if you use ICloud for saving then it will work, not sure why I can't save to the phone, its a work one so has some management profiles on and may be blocked dure to this.

Thank you! Yes, I’ve just tried that and it seems to be working, which will be a big help for me so I can pick up work from where I left off on my iPad and continue wherever. Cheers!! X

Unlikely at this point. The demand just isn’t there given the trend for huge phablets.

Which is a shame as I think the Mini is the perfect form factor for me, but I don't think there's enough of a jump from the Mini 2 to 4 to justify an upgrade.

My current phone is an 8 Plus.

Tonight I wiped and reset an Ipad Air 2, once it had finished the wipe and had arrived at the "Hello Screen" I was invited to bring my iPhone closer...!?

So I did and the newly wiped Ipad took settings from my phone and set its self up.

I was required to take a picture of a graphic the Ipad showed with my phone, enter my iPhone lock code and finally enter my Apple ID password on the Ipad.

Wasn't 100% hands-free but a big improvement.

Are they ever going to do a new iPad Mini??!

Unlikely at this point. The demand just isn’t there given the trend for huge phablets.

Which is a shame as I think the Mini is the perfect form factor for me, but I don't think there's enough of a jump from the Mini 2 to 4 to justify an upgrade.

I got bored of waiting for a new iPad mini, and ordered one of the 2018 iPads.
Going from an A7 to A10 processor with twice the RAM means it feels a hell of a lot snappier, and I can still get quite a good price for a 128GB mini on eBay.

The only problem is that it seems quite hard to find a third party Smart Cover that doesn't have a rear case as well, and I'm not sure I can bring myself to pay £39 for the genuine item. They used to be plentiful when I last had a full size tablet.

Most of the smart cases can be used with or without the rear cases as the fronts hold on with magic magnets.
