And yet conversely I've only ever had the smallest size of each iOS device I've owned, and just clear up games after I've finished them, which means I never run out of space.

I currently have 3.1GB free and 9.5GB used on my iPhone with Messages being 783MB and Photos being 662MB

Same here really (for my iPad at least), I did run out of space when I started using it to get photos from my DSLR but even if I had 32GB then I would have found myself in the same situation a bit later.

Cheers. I got a mini 3 in the end. Mainly as I forgot about the last bit of your post. It was about 270.

iPhone 7 details announced.

Old style head phone socket removed. Lightning connector can be used for headphone, there are only 8 choices out at the moment though.

There are also bring out wireless headphones called Airpods pricing has been announced @$159 so well over £100 here I would expect.

Something about better water resistance as well.

Another camera to be added to the 7 Pro models so providing better picture quality.

For me the cameras on the Pro will be something I would be interested in, so might so for one of those.

Also going to be a Mario game called Super Mario Run coming out soon.

I thought there were rumours of post-shot focus a while ago? Was that just misinformed? I think one of the Chinese phone manufacturers beat treadmill to the punch with that

Pfft. Doesn't matter what Apple tries to say, they're just removing the 3.5mm jack to make more money, and to make their phone thinner. I'm sure other companies will have to licence something from Apple to be able to create Lightning headphones. And realistically, I'd prefer a thicker phone with more than a days battery than a thin thing that barely lasts the day.

I'm betting Beats releases a ton of Lightning-Connector headphones sometime in the next few weeks - before most other manufacturers will even have the chance to.

Underwhelming. Will keep my 6 Plus for another year, I think.

I'm more interested in a Series 2 Watch but at £600 for the stainless steel one I'll probably pass.

Correct and I guess that's the point, won't be long before the generic adapters come out

And a 3.5mm jack.

USB C is ace... or it will be if it becomes standard. Like in the MacBook

Really? Maybe its going to change for earphones but there are loads of generic charger cables all ready available.

Apple are providing an adapter for the earphones with the new 7 models. When I watched a video so some BBC guy at the Apple Event he said they weren't putting them out one display as they didn't look great!!

It is, however, just USB. Dirt cheap to get adaptors, cables and whatnot. (I think my total outlay for USB c was about £4. (although my desktop has a usb-C port, my laptop does not)

Things is, the audio jack has been around pretty much unchanged since before my parents were born. If something technologyish sticks around for that long, theres a good reason.

I just thought of the one scenario where wireless in-ears might interest me. At school, girls could hide earphone wires under long hair. This would have made it even easier.

I take a lot of pictures with my phone so will probably get a Pro for the better camera(s)

Last time I used the earphones on a phone was during our pre child holidays when I just had 8 hours of sitting on a beach to worry about

Won't have that sort of free time again for another 10 years!

Whereas I use headphones all the time since having Mimimini, during naps. If we go out he sleeps in his buggy, so I put on an audiobook and Pokemon Go, and if we are at home he'll nap next to me, so I take the opportunity to put my feet up, listen to an audiobook with a cup of tea and knit. I used to use them all day at work, too.

Yes, they're knockoffs with reverse engineered chips and Apple routinely shuts them down. They're not a good idea.

A chum of mine is from a fully Appled family and says they all use knock-off charging cables because they're far better built and break less often than the official Apple ones which cost a zillion pounds each - to the extent that even if Apple fuck them with a software update they're still massively quids in overall.

I can't really comment personally as I only have vague memories of plugging wires into phones to charge them.

Apple license other people and let them make cheaper cables and adaptors though, right? So there will be cheaper options.

It still seems to suck to me. Especially as the regulation earphones are insanely expensive unless they are brilliant, and their wired ones were comparatively shite.

Still annoying that they're preventing anyone with low battery from using non-Bluetooth headphones.

I use Amazon Basic or Anker cables, had no issues. I think they are licenced.

I'm not sure there's been much benefit for a while. Phone tech has rather slowed in terms of meaningful improvement. Better to save money and sit on a sim only deal. Only reason I upgraded from my nexus 4 to the 5x is because the old phone broke.

Good point. I do this too.

It's a very good point that if the technology has been around forever, then it probably works just fine.

This is reminding me of the uproar when the GBA SP came out and ditched the headphone socket. You could buy adaptors but I don't think it plugged into the charging port, but I could be wrong. It didn't matter anyway as the GBA SP battery lasted for years on a single charge.

I can look at swapping my 5s for a 6(something) now.

Not sure how much this matters to most people. The cameras have been "good enough" generally for quite a while.

Good point... When was the last time you heard someone say that the camera on their phone was rubbish?

I haven't done that since I had an HTC phone I think... and that was years ago.

I only ever want a new phone when the one I have starts pissing me off/breaks. Really can't understand getting excited about them any more. But plenty of people are obsessed with the things and not nerdy/IT types but actual, normal people. It's not that uncommon for someone to ask what phone you've got and then to start wittering on about when their contract's up and what they're getting next.

Good point on plugging the phone into other appliances, such as stereos and cars. I assume there's an iPhone to aux lead that'll be available, right? Or is the Apple solution to buy a new car?

A couple of years ago there were a lot of bad ones around, I had a couple that just stopped working after a week. Then I had a women in our sales force who had an issue where her "generic" charger caught fire in the car. Her young daughter and an ice cream were involved as well so I never got to the bottom of it ;)

So I had to issue an email telling 100 people to chuck out any generic kit and go and buy Apple stuff.

So until a couple of months ago I was all apple cables etc, then I put in 8 or so new sockets with USB in the house and want to have cables in them all the time for convenience, so I took a punt on a cheap pack of 6 from Ebay, the seller has shifted 1000 of them so figured they must be ok.

They have been great, so not sure if the Chinese or whoever can rip these off with DRM or if Apple license them to people??

There's a converter, but if you're on a long journey you're not using the lead and charging your phone at the same time, which is a completely standard use case.
