I can download my additional game now. AAAGH decisions.

I'm thinking Wonderful 101 - (Platinum game so almost a must but the touch screen stuff sounds a bit hit and miss) or Pikmin 3 - I quite enjoyed the first one but the point at which resource management ends up being a chore is a low threshold for me.

What say the hive?

I have Pikmin 3. If you liked either of the previous two, you'll probably like this. (Although I did find it controlled better with the gamecube versions)
It is rather pretty, but as with the others, I find the bosses to be not so much fun. Also they've returned to a kind of limited time scale as per Pikmin 1, but no idea how harsh it is, but it's slowed my progress as I keep rnning out of time on a boss but am unwilling to spent only a fraction of a day to reach him and waste the rest for the battle.

Not tried wonderful 101, but it's one of the two games I'm interested in on that list.

Register the game on club nintendo, then go back 48 hours later and there should be a message saying you can get a free game then make a selection from that and you'll get a download code to enter into the eshop.

I also spent Zardoz's stars at the same time so I got double goodness.

I've tried to buy the Wii U Mario Kart 8 bundle from the local GAME twice now, and on both occasions they've totally sold out of their last delivery.

I realise I could simply order one online but I'm quite enjoying the thrill of an old-fashioned chase.

I shall stick at it until I acquire one.

Yay Nintendo Wii U get at the third time of trying :)

£289.99 for the premium console plus a few extra accessories (the multi-charge station looks like it could be handy), Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, and of course the download code for an extra game.

Got it all set up OK and the console is updating now.

Not sure what to go for on the free game, I'd say it's between Super Mario Bros U and Pikmin 3, or maybe the Zelda game?

No, I must confess I basically skipped every Nintendo console after the SNES (which is rather odd as the SNES remains one of my favourite games consoles ever, indeed I still own a fully working one). The 64, Gamecube and Wii I didn't own any of.

I think it was probably because I was already massively into the PS1 and Saturn before the 64 was released, and I just started skipping Nintendo stuff.

Cheers dude I'll have a think about it, although I must say I really like the look of Pikmin 3 and I've never played any of the other Pikmin games.

Also, in other news, £5.49 for a SNES game on the eShop! :o

Plus, Nintendo aren't very good at online are they? I need a Club Nintendo account and also a Nintendo Network ID, and I have to link them together, even though I'm the same person using the same console :D

Still, it feels good to have a Nintendo console again, I predict much pure videogaming fun in the weeks and months to come.

I'd choose Pikmin over Zelda any day. Today, in fact. Although if you've never played a Zelda game and were desperate to find out what it's all about AND it was free, then New/Old Zelda wouldn't hurt your eyes for a few hours before you turned it off never to come back to it again.

Wind Waker was indeed ace, although without having played Ocarina first the emotional impact will be lessened. Parts of Wind Waker made me feel genuinely sad, and I'm not talking about the much maligned sailing or triforce-shard hunting.

I went for Zelda Wind Waker, because it's the one I can least justify buying (still owning the original). It'll never lose value so It'll always cost £30 in the near future, so I'ld always get a new game instead.

But I really want it.

Luckily I love wind waker.

I enjoyed Wind Waker on the Wii U far more than I ever did on the GameCube. To an enormous degree more. It's aged rather well, and the enhancements and changes to the game help a great deal.

Lots of interesting stuff coming out of Nintendo's E3 video reveals.

New Zelda game and new Starfox game! :metul:

Other things!

TBH as long as I get a handful of stunning first party games to play on my Wii U (I'd settle for single figures) I'll be happy. I honestly don't anticipate buying any game for the console that isn't by Nintendo themselves, and I bought the console with that expectation.

Mario Kart/Mario/Zelda/Starfox/Donkey Kong - even those would probably do me. (And I've already got Mario Kart and Mario.)

Question about Mario Kart 8:
How can you end a race when the last player hasn't crossed the finish line yet?
In Mario Kart Wii it used to just stop after a while but this one seems to just wait for the last one forever
and little miss 4yearsold thinks she can do anything but when she's 2 rounds behind its very annoying for everyone involved to get her over the finish line before we can play another race.

'Nintendo wins E3'

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014- ... -own-terms

Have to say I'm totally loving my Wii U, and Hearthly Jnr is loving it too, she's fascinated by all the Nintendo characters in MK8 and has had me bringing up videos of all the Mario Kart games ever (starting with Super Mario Kart on the SNES) and working through Every. Single. One.

This morning we've done the history of Donkey Kong, and also some of Dr Nagasaki's brain training, which I'd never seen before and is quite tricky but also good fun. (She likes the consistency of Nintendo characters over the years, so was chuffed to see an identifiable Mario in the very first Donkey Kong arcade game from 1981.)

The Wii U's internet browser is surprisingly capable, and makes a really good YouTube player (far better, in fact, than the included YouTube app), plus there's clever little touches like you can muck around with the settings and suchlike on the gamepad screen, but it'll maintain full screen video on the telly whilst you're doing it.

I'll probably get myself Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze at some point, I really like the look of that and I was a huge fan of the original DKC game on the SNES back in the day.

For now though I'm still hammering MK8 for a 'full' game and Wario Ware Inc when I want a quick blast. Still haven't started on Pikmin 3 or Super Mario 3D World, which I guess I should probably have a look at if nothing else....

Post subject:  Re: Wii-U

Since we were in town anyway today it seemed daft not to avail myself of the opportunity to visit GAME and purchase DKC Tropical Freeze.

Seems rather odd to be buying physical discs again as it's the same price as the digital download and generally speaking I'd just go for the convenience of digital, but internal memory is at a premium on the Wii U (even with the 32GB premium model, and 10GB has gone on my Pikmin 3 download already), so I figured I'd get the disc. (I realise I could hang an external HDD out the arse of it, but that rather defeats the object of it being such a dinky little thing.)

As for the game, it's DKC all over again but shinied up to the HD max, (720@60FPS too, so it plays gloriously), so if you liked DKC on the SNES, this is probably the sort of thing you'll like.

It's got the same mean streak in it as the original too. Not that hard to get through the levels, but quite another proposition to collect all the KONG letters and the puzzle pieces, and it'll kill you off pretty sharpish if you fuck things up.

After the best part of a couple of decades out of the Nintendo habit, it's good to be back in the fold :)

Yes there's a certain momentum and 'bounce' to the characters that you have to adapt to, but I'm not sure that enters the realms of 'shit controls'? (And they are monkeys after all.)

I'm having a blast with it anyway :)

Post subject:  Re: Wii-U

I am loving the hot hairy monkey arse out of DKC Tropical Freeze at the moment.

Still some way to go with MK8 but all I've got left to do there is work through getting a gold star in each of the 150cc Grand Prix (normal and mirror, to get my golden kart), and getting depressed by Trousers' times in romanista's weekly challenges - but most certainly have already had my value for money out of the game and then some.

STILL NOT EVEN LOOKED AT Pikmin 3 or Super Mario 3D World despite the fact they're both supposed to be awesome games, as I'm getting so much mileage out of MK8 and DKCTF. (And Wario Ware Inc on the side.)

DKCTF is real old-school gaming, I've decided to max out the entire game which means collecting all the puzzles pieces and getting the KONG letters for every single level, and that really is easier said than done. (Blasting through the levels is actually fairly easy, but you'll miss loads of stuff, not unlock the bonus levels, and so on.)

I'm already at just shy of 10 hours play and I've only maxed out the first island (of six!) and doubtless it's only going to get harder from here on in. In particular the 'K' levels (each island has one) are only unlocked once you've collected all the KONG letters for every other level on that island, and the K levels are bastards!

Whereas all the other levels are reasonably generously checkpointed, you need to do a K level in one hit, albeit you don't have to collect every puzzle piece on the same run - and this bastard will kill you off as soon as look at you!

This video gives you some of the flavour of it, I guess it's a case of 'Is this is the sort of thing you like, then you'll like this' - personally I'm over the moon with being able to play brand new videogames like this in the year 2014.

Yep full backwards compatibility with all Wii games (and indeed all the Wii controllers as well), so I may very well look back on some Wii titles that I missed by not owning that console :)

That said I'm really hoping that there'll be enough brand new super-duper Nintendo games for the Wii U to keep me occupied, it's just so nice to properly get my teeth back into real videogames again.

And you know what else I like, there's no fucking online store or DLC or any of that shit for these games, it's the Entire. Complete. Game. On one single disc, it's finished and whole, you buy it, and you play it, and you never have that slight nagging doubt about what they've not given you or not sold you or whether or not the game would be better if you spent some more money on it.

Yes there are unlocks and secrets and bonuses and all that stuff, but 100% within the game's ecosystem, not one single prompt to spend any more money on the game you've already bought. I like that.

Only really found the Gamepad useful for 3 chase type games in local multiplayer in NintendoLand though.

You got NintendoLand Hearthly? I reckon Becca would love that - the whole coin collecting thing and the variety of games on offer are pretty good. She can swing a sword in the Zelda game while you fire arrows from the gamepad as support. Great fun.
