He's a Dennis employee who's locked away on some random magazine, Custom PC, I think. I don't know if it is RR or not, but it's a bit of a random name to come up. The only other name I've heard is Tony Horgan (who used to edit the underrated CU Amiga), but who knows. Who cares, eh? He doesn't say anything particularly illuminating, to be honest. Every major games journalist in the land could tell you worse stories than his generic rants.

Anyway, I think Stu's entitled to his little moment of smugness. This place is a mess - it really doesn't have any definable purpose, despite all the promises of content. Is it a videogame forum? Seriously, what is it? In lieu of any reason to exist, all that's left to do is manufacture arguments.

Between that and the all-new WoS, which contains such directionless discourses as the one with the Livejournal-calibre feminist who uses phrases such as 'triggering', I decided that perhaps, paraphrasing Belle & Sebastian, it was time to get out of the forum and into the sunshine. And that truly is being excellent to yourself.

Actually, I was obtusely (and not very effectively) trying to dampen it. angel has a distinguished argumentative career on RLLMUK- and I think people are correct in this instance to peg his post as a bit of a random snipe. So... carry on as BEEX normal.

Aaanyway. Ram Raider- Occasionally great, mostly average, sometimes rubbish, usually depending on his erm... her target. Personally, I think it's a bit of a shame that 'least/most attractive journalists' is being dragged out again for the popular vote, because it dilutes some of the more important stuff.

Well, good luck with that. I appriciate the unique circumstances that forged this forum and the time constraints that came with it, so it's more of an observation than a criticism. But a rough agenda needs to be set to underpin the forum's existence, otherwise its just the same old people floating around without reason being nice to each other, and that's the reason why people are so quick to fly off the handle on the event that someone isn't nice to them.

Mostly its your love of Forza 2, I think. Also your tough stance on cheese exports.

This place is still embryonic in my opinion. Give it time to brew and settle down, reviews and opinions are on the way. In the meantime what we do have here are active threads covering games, news, food, mafia, monkeys, rec-me-dos and bargains. What are we missing? Not having a dig dude, just some want your constructive thoughts.

I think we can all agree that this forum is nothing without some sort of scheme that involves the hijacking of a device capable of interstellar travel.

I've downloaded all the bits I think the site needs to link properly with the forum (i.e. register in one place and you're registered on both, view recent forum posts and all that) - I just need to install it all. I'm guessing it'll ask me for some phpbb username/password at some point.. that your domain Grim? And is this PHPBB3? I'm guessing so but thought I'd ask in case it's 2.

I think you're inadvertedly backing up my point here Zardoz. What is this forum? Should it be a games forum with an off-topic section for monkeys and mafia games? RevStu was the central point of WoS, and thus everything posted was placed into some manner of context around him. You don't have that luxury here, and indeed the entire formation of the forum stems from a desire to be to move away from that forum model, which is fine in itself, but you need to replace it with a clearly-defined structure.

Currently, there is none. There's a huge sprawl of random content that must be utterly bewildering to a new user who isn't aware of the foibles of the posters or the meme-esque in-jokes. Therefore, you will attract no new blood. Why would you want to attract new blood? Well, perhaps you don't, but if you don't, then superfluous content and petty in-fighting will be on the menu for some time to come.

I mean this post to be helpful, so hopefully you're not all going to call me a cunt for pointing stuff out. I don't think BETEO is doomed or anything, but its current problems won't go away until there's a clearly-defined vision. As a short-term fix, I would strongly suggest that sub-forums are your friend.

The one decent bridge I found to link in with phpbb3 (most do 2) was unfortunately for the other version of Joomla. However, I found this yesterday which should do the trick nicely. Just needs Community Builder (joomlapolis.com) installing and configuring first which I've done before but if you want to have a fiddle with it, feel free.
