I mean this post to be helpful, so hopefully you're not all going to call me a cunt for pointing stuff out. I don't think BETEO is doomed or anything, but its current problems won't go away until there's a clearly-defined vision. As a short-term fix, I would strongly suggest that sub-forums are your friend.

I was dead against sub-forums at first, but I think it'd probably be a good idea, at least in the short term. Dimrill's icons are quite splendid, but if there was even a split of "Games" and "Other stuff" it might help.

I know there's a lot going on being the scenes, like Richard Gaywood working on the site, and I do appreciate the time that everyone's given up, but the lack of focus is making BETEO less enticing. I know I don't post much, so you'd be within your rights to tell me to fuck off, but it's just something I've been feeling for a while. I'm still going to post here and on WoS with the same (lack of) frequency, but I hope BETEO is going to become the special thing that it promised to be.

I don't like the enforcing of a purpose. I don't get together with my friends in a pub and say "Now when we're sitting at this table we talk about games, if you want to talk about trees go over there to the other side of the bar".

I still read it every day and still find him interesting, I just don't admire him anywhere near as much as I used to.

Virtually identical in fact, except Stu is smarter. Much smarter, that's damned quick thinking to replace his World of CUS jibe although he somehow still thinks CUS ordered people here, rather than just happening to be the guy who had a forum already there.

We discussed this and decided that it wasn't the way to go. Where were you when these discussions took place?

Fuck knows. It probably dropped off the front page after six minutes following a deluge of Eastenders threads, which is the kind of thing that happens in busy forums that don't have sub-forums.

@ ChocoboOfDoom: I know what you are saying but we discussed sub forums previously and the majority of us where against it.

When the main site is up and running I think we should put it to the vote again.

I can't help thinking that having a forum and then putting together a website to base it on some months later is rather like building a house and then trying to dig foundations underneath it. We may well end up covered in fallen masonry. Or something.

We had it pinned for a while. My point is that quite a few people have come on here recently saying this place isn't what they want it to be, yet they're the same people who haven't visited in ages.

If you want to change it, post some threads you find interesting.

Alternatively, putting together a website without the community to write things for it is like moving into a house before you buy any furniture.

I think the site should help to complement the forum - it'll give people the outlet to see their reviews and whatever else they care to knock up. For the users who aren't interested in that bit they can just carry on posting as normal. :)

I sadly have not yet seen the film I modified the above quote from -- Kenny, about an Austrailian plumber who specialises in sewerage for open-air festivals. However I do know it has another fried gold quote: "we've got a smell down here that's gonna outlast religion".

It's more like if 28 roads from your house all go directly to work, but you complain because number 29 instead goes to Grimsby rather than just using one of the other 28.

Quick! Make BETEO more how Jonarob likes it!

Re: An earlier query:- The whole RAM Raider=Daniel Emery thing came about because Emery wrote a review of some Outrun game that Stu disagreed with, and Rammy stuck up for it. And then came onto WoS and protested too much about not being Emery. So the assumption sort of stuck.

Rammy needs to drop the "best looking journalists" thing, as it's pretty tedious. Actually, most of his site is now. It started out fair enough, but is now (perhaps like most things) essentially just repeating what the reader already knows - in this case about how biased the computer mag industry is.
