I've seen some screenshots of this at 4k and it's absolutely mind blowing. Really, very excited.

*All apart from that bit where you are in the rapids and have to dodge things. Totally trial and error and I got somewhat annoyed at it.

The rapids bit on the 360 gave you just enough of a warning to get through it , the bit i did not like was the tacked on multiplayer stuff - I may pick up the PC version if the PS4 one really is delayed until the end of the year.

Well my pre order has gone in and I have pre loaded the game. Mrs JC bought it for my birthday but oddly there is no physical copy to buy, which kinda bummed me out as I like to collect games.

Ended up buying it from a chum who just bought three new graphics cards (so had a couple of codes spare). £20, valuetastic.

The wait though is killing me. It doesn't launch until the Americans are up, bathed/showered and have had a cup of coffee.

I'm hoping very much that this game will be absolutely fantastic at 4k and will run well. So that means it won't run well at all and I will be waiting on drivers

I genuinely considered picking up the PC version but thankfully my machine is way below the minimum spec so I'm spared a potentially subpar experience and will be forced to wait for the PS4 release.

I'm playing its predecessor on the PC at the moment. Nice hair.

I'm going to pick up the PC version. I've no idea if my pooty meets minimum specs but I reckon it should do because I have faith in it, and it played Max Payne alright.

It's quite apparent that the game is pretty easy to run, if you don't go bonkers with the settings. What GPU do you have? I would say even something like a 750 would be acceptable.

It's not enormously different or better than the Xbone really. Just slightly better shadows, more tessellation on the floor and more objects if you up the detail.



Yeah, as frivolous as it was TressFX was very good in motion. Apparently they have tweaked TressFX and have now named it PureFX but essentially it's the same thing (though PX is supposed to make less of a performance impact).

At the launch of the first game TressFX was apparently an AMD technology, thus ran like shit on Nvidia. I was pretty bummed, because I was running two 670s in SLI when it came out and TressFX made them crawl. However, that was soon addressed by Nvidia and a better driver was launched and laughably TressFX then worked better on Nvidia cards and the game flew along on my 670s (even better than it did on my 7990).

But yeah, absolutely stunning game from start to finish and a true surprise. I hadn't even bothered looking at screenshots because I have never played a TR game in my life. They always felt so poor compared to Mario 64.

I'm sure your machine will handle it okay, but using Max Payne as a benchmark's a bit odd as that was a last gen game.



Radeon HD7770, so not so much. And that might not even be the biggest problem; bear in mind that my PC is running a Q8200 CPU and only 4GB of RAM.

It's about the prettiest and most taxing game I've played on it. Oh, actually I've got Ryse which plays alright and was a next gen game. I think that'll be my next game to finish now I come to think of it.

Fired it up, no Crossfire support. Meaning I will have to wait for a driver. Oh goody !

I tried setting it to AFR and tried the existing Tomb Raider Crossfire profile but no joy from either.

It's shitty but it's just where I'm at. Any way, just read that apparently AMD are preparing Crimson 16.1.1 as I type this so with any luck it should be good soon

I've just been watching some YouTube vids on graphics cards and stuff running new Tomb Raider. I've also discovered I have an overlocked quad-core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 2GB Radeon 260X. But then all the videos I watched were about the i7 and the i3. The i7 was good and better than xbone but the i3 was not good and shitter than the xbone, so I reckon being in middle an i5 should be reasonable and the same as the xbone using the power of the assumption.

So I'm getting this for defo.

Your machine will absolutely definitely play it. Whether it runs it better or worse then the Xbone well depend on various factors as always, but it's not going to look bad or anything so don't worry about it.

Note to AMD users. New updated driver released today especially for Tomb Raider. Fixes numerous issues and includes full Crossfire X support. The driver in question is Crimson Hotfix 16.1.1.

Today is a good day for 4k. As much pain and suffering it has caused there are some days, like today, where it absolutely takes your breath away.

So it looks great - how does it play - is it just the same / an update from the previous TR ?

Pre-orders for the PS4 version are now available but have the date set (possibly as a placeholder) for the end of the year , if its going to be a while its something i may pick up for the PC

It's pretty much the same as the last one in gameplay terms. Well, unless anything new happens later. Sadly it crashed, and when I tried to reload it it just crashes on startup so I can't even play it

Edit. OK so I seem to have sorted that now. I disabled Crossfire and the game loaded OK again so then I saved and quit, turned Crossfire back on and fingers crossed that seems to have fixed the issue.

Two more hours invested so far today. TBH it literally feels like the last game ended and this one began, that's how similar they are. Having said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the first game so why change anything?

I could be wrong and it could change. Right now I am just about to investigate a downed chopper (ooer).

Hmm. I've had time to sit down and play this properly now (six hours) and tbh? I'm actually starting to fall out of love with it a little bit. It's far, far prettier than the original and the new hair is cool 'n all but the story is just so much waffles. It seems to go in a pattern. 3 minutes of cut scene and story (that I daren't skip because by the end BLOPS 3 made no sense) then 4 minutes of actual gameplay which is identical to the original before 5 minutes of cut scenes and story. It honestly feels like an interactive movie and after six hours of it I am assuming that it is absolutely identical in terms of gameplay to the original too. There just doesn't seem to be enough action vs the cut scenes and so on.

Looking past how pretty it is (because it seriously is one of the most gorgeous games I've ever played) nothing seems to be different.

It's not worth full price is what I am trying to say. I wouldn't pay any more than I did for it without feeling a little hard done by.

I'm probably being a little grumpy but yeah, nothing new here it seems. Whilst reviewers seem to be going crazy over it and awarding it high scores I think they've been blinded by the graphics a little, or just desperation to be Lara again in her new guise.
