Put a donation here and myp can kick me :)

I'm fundraising for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Please help me make a difference by making a donation to my Virgin Money Giving page.

To find out more about what I'm doing and why, please visit http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/rugbyrunners5 where you can also sponsor me online.

Don't forget to tick the box to reclaim Gift Aid on your donation if you're a UK tax payer. Virgin Money Giving will pass this on in full to charity, making your donation go even further.

Thanks for your support,
Mark

I've actually gained 1lb since I started at the gym last week. My mental health has vastly improved, though.

I had the same choice, i have gone for a Road Bike as I can fit aero bars at a later stage.

But how do you feel? How are your clothes fitting?

I stopped weighing myself when I dropped my first dress size but the number on the scale stayed the same :DD

Post subject:  Re: Middle Age Spread

See that's the key thing, how you look and feel, not what you weigh. I lost 1.2 st with the new diet, but have put most of it back on with all the training, but have definitely got smaller, so that combined with feeling much better energy wise is the key for me - I know the weight is muscle gain, and I'm positive yours will be too!

I'd rather go with a road bike so I can use it pre / post triathlon (I doubt I'll be making a habit of that!)

Am 5ft 5, budget is bugger all ;)

Yesterday was the first time that when I ran I didn't feel like I was struggling, the run before I actually had to stop at one point:

It's going to be a long, drawn out thing to get back to where I was but at least it's getting better.

I know bugger all about bikes, so, if anyone would be kind enough to look at these and tell me if any of them would be even remotely good I'd be very grateful!

What height are you as this well help with frame size. MsKov is 5'3 and has xs, I am 6'2 and have large.

Are you likely to ever be riding wearing a skirt?
If not, then ladies or gents is immaterial. Size of frame is what matters.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I would expect a "mens" bike to be better than the equivalent "ladies" as they are generally designed that way first, aren't they?

Post subject:  Re: Middle Age Spread

You probably want a frame size of 20" or 22". Something like this would be good, but it's in Stockport:

The geometry is different on women's bikes due to longer legs and shorter upper body or something. Just find one that is comfortable for you for the time being

Ladies road/hybrid bikes normally have a narrower handle bar, as shoulders are narrower. Just more comfortable. Only difference really.

Make sure wheels are 26" or you will have more work to do.

Not always. MsKov is a ladies bike, just XS frame and handle bars other than that same as mine.

Okay, so a ladies bike is probably a good idea as I'm long legged / short bodied (5ft 5 height) and have narrow shoulders!!

So what size frame does that put me at needing?... and how come the 26" wheels Kov?

Thanks for the advice guys!!

Saddle can be raised, I would look at a small or medium frame.

26" each wheels are standard, smaller wheels means toy will have to pedal more :)

700c wheels are standard road bike. 26 are mtb standard.

Post subject:  Re: Middle Age Spread

Rough idea. I would get a smaller frame and raise the saddle when comfortable.

If toy doesn't pedal, toy gets the hose again.
