Post subject:  Re: Middle Age Spread

Aside from a period just after puberty I've never been particularly happy about my weight, but after becoming increasingly pissed off with it over the last few years, I vowed to do something about it. And splitting up with ex-Mrs B gave me a bit more control over what I was eating so I cut my calorie intake right back.

I'm no kind of cook and preparing meals has never really done anything but annoy me so the range of stuff I'm eating isn't very imaginative, but I'm not really struggling at all to stick to it. I've been at it a good few months now and lost a shit-ton of weight pretty quickly--to the point that every time I meet someone who hasn't seem for a while they're stunned, including someone at the weekend I hadn't seen for eight years so I must be smaller again than I even was back then--and although that's slowed down I'm still losing a few pounds a week-ish if the scales at the pool are anything to go by.

I'm still drinking beer and having a take-away or eating out at the weekend so it's not like I'm denying myself so it seems to be pretty sustainable so far. Although, out of curiosity, I just counted up the calories I'm consuming in a typical weekday, and it's hovering around the 1300 mark which I think might be pretty low? And I'm wondering whether there's likely to be any serious detrimental effects from running a low calorie diet like that over a long period of time. I'm not really sure why I'm posting this, just because it was on my mind and this thread popped up unread I suppose.

Do you feel happy? Do you not feel tired? Can you do everything you need to do in a day? Can you still exercise? Do you feel healthy?

If the answer to the above is yes, then your calorie intake is fine. :)

What is the 5/2 diet?

Five days normal balanced diet, with two days of fasting per week.

Post subject:  Re: Middle Age Spread

Technically it's actually 5 days of eating what the fuck you like and 2 days of fasting, but 5 days of a healthy balanced diet if probably even more sensible.

Fair points all, and "yes" so indeed everything is fine!

600 cal a day for two days. Not eating much, but it isn't completely avoiding food.

And it isn't 2 days consecutively, it's 2 days out of 7, but they can be any days you want.

I rejoined the gym yesterday. Sitting next to the unending pile of biscuits in the office isn't exactly helping me.

I'm assuming you were being chased by a Vicar, who was being chased by a lady in a bridal gown, who was being chased by a surgeon in scrubs, who was being chased by a bunch of women in bikinis, whilst Yakety Sax was playing?

Don't feel overly hungry today either. :)

I put 10Kg on my bench press and a couple of Kg on my 21's in the last week but more importantly I am off to buy new jeans at lunch.

So let's see if my waist size is in any way proportionate to my "almost obese" BMI of 29....

Since I wear my trousers with the waistband right on my hips, my waist size hasn't varied from my peak weight of just shy of 15st to my current 13st 4lb.

My arse has got smaller though :)

Broke my 5km PB last night - 28 minute something - not sure how much I trust the Strava app though, even after I edited the GPS data to give a more accurate run route it seemed to be a bit wonky

36 inch fit me with some room to spare. Not as good as I hoped but not as bad as I feared.

However my shirts / T shirts are tighter across the chest than my waist so something is going right.

I noticed last weekend i was creeping back up in weight, so this week i've been cutting back on the food.
Light breakfast, big lunch, light dinner all week. 6lbs lost this week and I didn't even feel like i was dieting! Especially since a couple of my lunches this week were burgers at meatmarket :D

apparently you need it for turbo training on a bike.. heart rate and cadence

Yeah, that looks a bit of a bargain for that - was over £200 for a long time. In fact, I'm tempted, though my Garmin 405 is trusty and there's nothing wrong with it.

I had a cadence sensor. Someone nicked it - beware slightly, may be worth taking it off if you routinely leave your bike chained up. This was central London, mind.
