I've been dabbling with the 5:2 thing since June last year and have dropped from 93.2 kilos to 85.6. I'm quite pleased with that as I am not in a hurry or taking it too seriously. Felt very good when a couple of folk at work, who I hadn't seen for months, remarked on the change in my appearance.

Indeed it does. I just need to tone up a bit now. I went swimming for the first time in years last weekend and really enjoyed it, but also discovered that it's free for over 60's, so I think that will be the plan for getting back into a regular exercise routine.

I cycled to work this morning for the first time ever.

9.7km in 28:30, average speed of 20km/h - although I had electrical assistance. Still gave me a damn good work out though.

Ta. The chain is slipping under load too which doesn't help, makes it a nightmare getting up hills or even slight inclines - even with the assist.

Taking it to my local bike shop at lunchtime to see what they can do to it.

Yeah, that won't help at all.
I cycled in to work today as well - my times are picking up again now I've been back at it for a month.

My post heart attack diet has resulted in a 9lb drop in weight so far! Start my cardio rehab training next week so hopefully I'll be shifting more.

Back in 32 waist work trousers. All I have changed is no milk in tea (hence switch to Earl Gray) and not eating a biscuit every time I pass the table.

Grr.... I have two pairs of hiking trousers I can lend you (depending on leg size).

I've decided to start jogging again: going to aim for 3 runs a week at 15-20 mins initially. Toying with getting a rowing machine as well.

Get a second-hand water rower from ebay. They feel great to use (and sound awesome) and will be worth the same as you paid for it when you sell it on ebay again in a couple of months after only using it twice.

A water rower with an S4 monitor will usually cost you £650 second hand, so it's a fair chunk of cash. But it will sell for £650 again without a problem. So it's actually free ;)

Slowly slogging my way back towards some measure of fitness. Managed a 25.08 5K this morning which is the best I've done for a good while. I've decided for no particular reason that 5K in 23 minutes is my aim for this year.

Somebody at work said I have guns. Admittedly I am dressed as the Hulk today but still. Finally after 44 years, Guns.

Just need to drop the last couple of inches off my waist before BeeXBQ and I can then join in the next Kovacs topless shoot.

Right, this is a bit 'look at me', but I'm proud - ran the London marathon yesterday and despite mounting pain and a bit of a slowdown from 21 miles onwards, managed to knock 30 seconds off my previous best and get round in 2:57:27. It's a magnificent run - camaraderie amongst the runners, particularly early (before most of us are too tired to talk to each other), so much noise from the crowd that it's almost overwhelming, friendly marshals who seem to love doing it. I'm a little emotional thinking back to it, but tiredness will do that.

There's an idea, Mr R; drat! And I didn't get anywhere near Paula! Jenson was a possibility, maybe, but as it turned out he was well away from me by the time our different starts joined.
