"The Book Club" on Sky Arts is generally worth a watch. There was (according to mrsA, as she's sick and tired of discussing it with people) one of the best descriptions as to why eBooks aren't all 50p done by a man.

Loved the first three, but then the massive wait (was it 8 years or something mental?) for the 4th meant I didn't read it as I couldn't remember what was going on.

Yeah, it was looking for an M.R. James collection that put me onto the other Wordsworth Press collections I bought* but I've saved this till last.

Tried the first of the Newbury & Hobbes books by George Mann. Gave up around a third of the way through. Utterly tedious steampunk by the numbers with awful unrealistic dialogue. I may have spoiled it by re-reading From Hell before hand.

Loving this M.R. James collection so far. He's rather good at the spooky spooky.

Really enjoyed 'Pickman's Model' - H.P. Lovecraft, last night. Loved the arty farty aspects to the tale, have to dig out some of the less familiar works he makes reference to.

Edit: Well Sidney Sime is excellent, new to me, has similarities with Aubrey Beardsley and Theodor Kittelsen.

Just reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, borrowed it from Mr Dom on the weekend. It is one of the best fantasy books i have read in a long time, all the characters feel solid and the story drags you in and enthrals you, i like the fact the main character, Kvothe, is telling the story and it wanders away from the main plot-line to give you nice little camp-fire stories throughout the whole book, am three quarters of the way through and i only started it yesterday. Think i may be off to the bookshop in a min to get the second one.

Currently halfway through 'Shipbreaker' by Paolo Bacigalupi. It is excellent. Set a short way into the future following environmental catastrophe, and is about people who scavenge through the wrecks of beached ships, pulling out copper wire, etc, to sell on. Really well written and well realised world.

Casino Royale done. Was alright. I'd never bothered with the Bond books before. The whole thing got a bit redundant after the baccarat bit. Meh. Also, it was a dodgy ebook from some website, and was full of typos and weird characters where accented French letters should've been. Another argument for paying money for your electronic reading material I suppose.

Not sure what to read now. Don't want to start the next Ice and Fire book just yet. Hmm.

Skagboys is out today. The first book I've looked forward to release date for ages. Even pre-ordered it on Kindle, which I picked up as I left the house as it will have been autodelivered overnight, so I could read on the train to work. I never do that.

Forgot to update my credit card on Amazon. No autodelivery overnight, Wifi only Kindle. Arse.

Just finished Cormac McCarthy "outer dark". He's very much in my favorite writers category now, even though i only read 3 of his books. "Blood Meridian" is mindblowing by the way. Now for the weak of stomach though.

I've started reading Machine of Death again now that I have a magic reading box. I started reading the free pdf when it came out, but I cannae be arsed reading books off a monitor. The stories are a bit morbid, but they make me laugh loads

Also, they've recorded the stories as podcasts so that you can enjoy them even if you're a spacker or a blindo on your commute or something.

I've started Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. It's beautifully written so far (about 30 pages in).

EDIT: As MrsA did English or soemthing at Uni, she's constantly amazed at how little I've actually read compared to her, so she's been recommending books to me. it's most useful.

Zone One by Colson Whitehead is a top-notch zombocalypse book. It's not the storyline which sets it apart (although that is interesting) nor the motifs (consumer-culture-as-lifeless-as-zombies goes back to the Dawn of the Dead). No, it's the prose. Whitehead is a Serious Literary Writer who happens to be slumming in genre fiction and it shows. The guy can write, and many, many times the book had a turn of phrase or clever metaphor that had me chuckling darkly.

Highly recommended. I read it in a day, almost in one sitting.
