Some of you may have heard that Zardoz has had a heart attack. He's tweeting from the hospital, so it's not as bad as it could be.

Still not the best thing that's ever happened, I'm guessing.

Get well soon, Z!

Saw him up at the hospital earlier and he's in good spirits and looking a lot better, such a bolt from the blue though. I'm just so glad it didn't happen a few hours earlier than it did or else he would have been miles from anywhere in a bothy, shitfaced with a load of other pissed up idiots and with no phone signal.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. I'm much better now, just very tired. Can't praise the hospital staff enough, they've been excellent. Basically from now I'm on tablets the rest of my life and need to take it easy for couple of months. Can't drive for 4 weeks either.

I'm sure I'll be fine, more freaked out about it today now it's sank in.

Drs pleased with my progress, should be out tomorrow. 2-3 months of r&r and ill be seeing another Dr about my other arteries that need either stents or a bypass.

Tell us about it, Z. Did it hurt?

Interesting that you talked about indigestion - an ex of mine had a heart attack when she was insanely young (19 or so) and she thought it was heartburn.

Yeah, heartburn, angina and heart attacks all have similar symptoms. In first aid courses you learn how to spot the differences.

Felt sick on drive home from Lakes with Mark, put it down to drink the night before. Stopped a couple of times at pubs to go to loo, second time I did an Exorcist hurl. Loss of breath back in car, colour drained and just an indigestion like discomfort. By the time I got to my door we took the camping gear in and I had achy sensation in left arm and I knew that was bad. No dramatic collapse or dibilitation band of pain like you see on TV.

Was more freaked out afterwards really, probably for the best.

Highly unrecommended.

Look after yourselves folks.

Thing is that the heart, as is, doesn't have any touch/pain nerve things in. So when it goes wrong it co-opts others to signal there's something wrong, hence the odd 'location' of the pain.

I can't remember much about it (or even what it's called), but we did cover it in the signalling part of uni course.

I'm useful.

I get that most of the time when I log into Beex.

Seriously though, I didn't realise a heart attack could make you throw up? You never see that on TV.

Runs in the family. Both grand fathers died of heart attacks and my dad had to have triple bypass last year (surgery successful but also caused a stroke :( ). Drs say some peoples arteries are more susceptible to furring and blockages.

Christ... Sobering stuff for everyone involved, I'm sure.

I'm glad you're feeling better, make sure you do as the Dr. tells you. Much more difficult to be patient with recovery when it's things inside that you can't see so don't push yourself.

Make the most of the R&R, Z. The kids will be pleased to have you home for a few weeks, as long as you let them use their DVD player on occasion!
