Given I live in Manchester, and work for the same humble university, I'm happy to offer you advice on any relevant stuff. After you start you'll be able to look me up on the internal staff directory and EVERYTHING. Fun.

I never knew you worked at the Uni. I was there until last December.

Did you take voluntary severence? I applied 6 months ago and then never heard a thing, which was a shame, because I'd have got an awesome payout if it had worked.

Strangely though, they didn't seem keen to give a giant lump sum to someone on a fixed term contract that was due to expire.

I put sporting equipment in boxes, except when my brain melts and I can't get out of bed, like now.

When not doing either of them, I drink to excess and talk bollocks.

I can neither confirm or disconfirm that, for some reason. What part of the uni are you in?

Oh of course. I forgot there was a clause that said anyone who took it wasn't allowed to say whether or not they did, or didn't. Big bunch of balls if you ask me.

My gf took severence (third party claim, non-binding), y'see, which has allowed her time to retrain and she's now doing what she wants, which is super-ace.

I was in MSEC on the D floor of the Sackville Building, now I'm down in the wilderness of the Stopford.

Thanks for the congrats guys :) I'll def PM you via here, Comical, when I start at the Uni so I can say hi if I find which bit you work in.

Did I also mention that I'm gonna be getting a 25% pay rise with this new job. No, I don't think I did, did I? ;) Finally, I will have spare sponds to piss away on tattoos and holidays, yay! :P

They shifted you down to my end on Oxford Road then. I was in the John Owens Building, with the funky stained glass windows.

Awesome, when I first started I was in the Beyer building and under their jurisdiction. It took 3 weeks to get my own PC.

I'm a mobile holistic therapist, which means I go into peoples houses and get paid to rub oil over their naked bodies. I'm currently trying to sort my house out though because I'm applying for jobs in prisons as forensic psychology is the way I want to go - hence the job interview next week. It's my first ever and I'm bricking it!

Hobbies: Scuba diving, reading, swimming, gym and gaming. Not that I have time for any of them at the moment!

Congrats Pupil, I hope some of your good luck will rub off on me by association! :D

Oooh, we have not one, but TWO people at the university of Manchester? Excellent!

If I give you a name, can you stalk someone for me?

Anyway, me. I do miscellaneous admin, design and IT crap for a local architectural salvage company, and am looking for a part time job in a library because I miss library work (two applied for today, hopefully I'll get at least one of them), need a more regular income and met nearly all of the finest people in my life while working, so it'll be good for me too I think.

When not working I bum around on the internet, play games, read, write (not nearly enough though), cook, clean up after my housemates (and no doubt picking soiled nappies off the living room floor in a few months. I wish I were being pessimistic), and act as some sort of unpaid freelance counsellor for confused young women and couples who keep crossing my path. I find people interesting and comfort myself by considering the fact that while I write less than I used to, what I write is better now, and the gaps in my major ideas get smaller the older I get. One story in particular is very important to me, and will be mostly a product of the thousands of hours I've spent trying to patch up a tiny part of the damage done by our country's many cuntish parents and stupid education system, and will hopefully be an inspiration to the people who've suffered under both. There's another one about evolution, politics, evil and sacrifice, but that, while bigger, is less important to me philosophically.

I would like to travel round the UK, visiting all manner of small towns and visiting all the strange and charming people I have met on the internet. I'd also like to brush up on my Spanish and visit Barcelona, Seville and Salamanca, and maybe learn a more obscure language and move to a country in Europe somewhere. I'd also like to teach myself a bit more history and biology and maybe do some sort of part time course, just because I find both interesting. Until I can afford either, ho hum.

By day I work doing spreadsheets for a large organization. By night I goof around and sell virtual houses for virtual money. From next week I will be doing that on every Friday also, going part time because the hobby pays better per hour than the day job.

Hi!

I work for the largest investor-owned gas and electricity supplier in the world, providing 1st and 2nd line technical support to the Home Energy Consultants who annoy you by knocking on your door when you're watching Corrie/eating your dinner.

I enjoy spending time with my fiancée and friends, clubbing (mainly trance/electro), music (playing and listening), sports (mainly football and cricket), alcohol (mainly real ale and red wine) and obviously games.

I also specialise in looking like Nathan Barley.

I am a train delay attributor for ("Railtrack" -Ed.) which means I sit in the rail control room watching the computers (coloured boxes representing trains, moving around a simplifed map of the network). If a train is more than three minutes later at point B than it was at point A, the blame (and possibly financial compensation for causing the delay) has to be placed, and my job is to determine who gets it.

This is in between being abused by demented hermits (the signalmen and women, who spend all day on their own pulling levers/flicking switches in their private kingdom - the signalbox in Arsehole, Shropshire) and shiftless train operators (who fight tooth and nail to minimise the amount of delay minutes attributed to their own crappiness). Happily, when things are running on time, I can sit back and relax. This is also a huge step up for me as I now just watch things go wrong and laugh, whereas my previous role as customer relations for a ToC meant I got abusive phone calls and letters about it and had to feign concern.

When I'm not working, I enjoy in no particular order gaming, drinking, driving (though not after drinking), motorbiking (though, again, never after drinking), travel, music, and spending time with the missus.

Ooh! Forgot to reply to this one.

Work: I am a librarian in Cardiff Libraries. You may have heard me mention it. From time to time.

Hobbies: Immersing self in high culture and comic books. Creative writing (should do more), PC gaming including Lord of the Rings Online, reading up about geology and weather systems and recommending things. Relentlessly. Also bopping to indie music and drinking ale or wine or whiskey.

A lady friend. She studies there. Ancient History. Actually, to be honest there's probably not much you could find out that I can't just ask, except maybe what shoes she wears, but it's always fun to stalk.

For the last 2 years I have produced the pricelists for a large corporation. Hey media.... As you may have spotted from my typing, I was average at best at this. Now I am a full on programmer (my spelling is all taken care of).

On an evening I usually kick about playing computer games - pc or console, I am not fussy - or go out with a few friends. Nothing very special really. I do enjoy the odd random adventure, I am going to Berlin in June, I have never been there and hope it will be cool. Also, me and a mate enjoy making "Random Friends" where we just sit at a table of unlikely looking people and try to join conversation with them. This works about 60% of the time.

I work for Makro. Whee. I drive machinary about, forklifts, WAVE machines, stuff like that. Moving stuff round, plonking it down, making it look reasonably nice, getting asked stupid questions by customers.

Exciting stuff.

I am now applying for BeeX Uni, as I am told Comical's girlfriend wants her Wii back, and I have some Mafia work to do.

I work as Advisor for the dutch ministry of economic affairs, as people might remember from my article about games in the favelas of Rio. I work for its innovation agency, helping people with ideas about things like travel information and bikes to get their project from the ground, and i coordinate the dutch part of the European project Link, a forum for intermodal travel between European countries.

For hobbies, was for a long time an official in the Dutch Go Association (a japanese mind sport, see e.g. my article in the american go journal), but stopped that when Jens was born. Spent my time (when not doing things with or for my son going to Ajax, going to Techno Raves, playing games at the evening and Cycling (did the Tour of Flanders e.g.)
