Had an email this morning saying that a member of the public complained about the account, so they deleted it.

No details.

posting this as a seperate thread because the other one might not get noticed in it's stickyness.

Cannot imagine for one second why someone would complain, but, as I say, no details given.

So, folks. What now? Any ideas?

Failing that, uploading to imageshack I suppose although that means that 1 person always has to know whose entered as they'll need to edit them into the thread.

I do not know image shack. I will have a look at it and see if it is suitable. If not I will have a look at Flickr. If not that then I will look at other places. But still, what a pain in the bottom.

I would think that you have a right to know why exactly it was deleted. Imagine that it was your main place for storing your photos!

If you post the email notification here, I bet that between us we can come up with a suitably excellent reply to it...

None of the images were in any way offensive so there's no reason for it to be deleted. Definitely more info required.

I run an image gallery that I could make a generic BETEO login for that would be allowed to post pics. They would all look like they came from the same account, preserving anonymity. Let me know if you want me to make it happen.

Why don't we just install some tidy image software here and use that? It's what us folk used to do before this annoying social-networky things came along.

I think that if it turns out that some fule did indeed upload something bad and complained, or uploaded something bad and someone else complained, then we should conduct a REAL MafiaScum style lynching!

I check the account a few times a day - just to make sure nothing has gone amiss and to shuffle the order of the pictures around every now and again, and it was fine as of about 10'o'clock last night. The email notification was sent at about 2am. I know from having to email them once before that they get back to you day or night within about 2 hours. If someone did do something like that it was probably last night between ten and midnight.

It might be worth asking them to pass on the complaint. You should have the righ tto face your accuser after all, and there's no reason they shouldn't show you the content of the message without revealing who it's from. That may give us a clue (if it's rambling txt spk crap f'instance, we can safely assume it's just some random cockchafer and nothing personal).

No worries. The gallery is at http://gallery.eggwan.com if you want to nose around. I would create a BETEO login who would be allowed to post pics in the BETEO album (and only in there). I own and admin the server so there would be no problems about takedowns or any of that nonsense. Uploading is the usual sort of "add pics... browse... select JPG... go!" process. I'd probably cap the account a bit (on both image resolution and total disk space) to ward off any abuse.

I'd also add a second BETEO login, for admin, who could create a new album for each new contest.

If anyone has any other ideas stick 'em here and we'll be sure to sort something out by the end of the afternoon, after come back with 20 buckets of duplo blocks and a bob the builder hat.

OK - I have downloaded them all. I felt a bit bad cutting into our shopping day but my nephew really enjoyed looking at them. he especially liked the goldfish photo!

This wasn't flickr though -- this was Picasa Web Albums, which is Google's photo hosting service.

What's wrong with flickr? I use it for my personal photo hosting and I quite like it.

I'm no expert, but perhaps there's something in Google's ToS that prohibits account sharing (multiple people with the same login). They could have deleted the account because of that.

Of course, if they reply confirming that then I'm going to look like the guilty party here. It's like being in that Mafia game, without actually being in it! *runs from lynch mob*

Well, this, basically. And some other stuff. Same reason I don't use Youtube. (They keep getting rid of SM:TV Live for heaven's sake! )
