And why, when you double press the button on your iPhone, do your open apps appear on the left now instead of the right. It's like apple are fiddling around for the fucking sake of it now.

(Not forum related. Natch.)

It's probably for the new 3d touch enabled app switching on the iPhone 6s.

Out of curiosity, why does that mean switching the side of the screen the apps appear on? I haven't got access to any new enough Apple hardware to play with the 3D touch stuff so I don't really know what impact it has.

It's that classy trailing semi-colon that does it for me. :D

But you don't have one on the GOTO command. Stupid BASIC.

The semicolon serves to modify the behaviour of print so it doesn't do a newline.

Pure supposition, but:

The iPhone 6s uses aa new gesture for task switching. You force touch (ie. push a bit harder than usual) on the edge of the phone and then swipe. I'm guessing that something about this felt more natural for the apps to be stacked oldest-to-newest left-to-right, rather than the other away around. I'm not sure what though. Perhaps because older on the left feels right for the idea of going back through apps.

If I've learnt anything about coding it's that if you're not sure which way to put something make it work both ways and offer a user setting.

Settings aren't free. They have a cost. Superfluous ones get in the way when the user is looking for something else. Add too many settings, and users are immediately put off using any of them. Worst case, they're so overwhelmed they stop using the software altogether.

And that's only the UX. Worse, every setting you add is another test scenario. When the user clicks Go, does the browser load the page? What if the language is set to Japanese? What if the theme is set to dark mode because it's night? What if the phone is rotated through 90 degrees? What if it's rotated and in Japanese but the dark theme is switched off?

Each setting increase the surface area of an app by the product of all the other settings. Settings aren't free. You have to use them sparingly.

I'm going to try and make the forum display .gifv files. You can ignore this thread for a bit while I fiddle.

Once you've done it, can you go and teach Google how? Chrome's support of that format is fucking woeful.

That's because it's not a format, it's a link to a web page (you can view the source of the page above, for example). gifv is just a made-up filename that tries to play a .webm video, then a .mp4, and falls back to a normal gif if it can't play either.

So this (in theory) works for any kind of video, not just a gifv. You can throw an mp4 at it and off it'll go.

Mobile site updates will be along soon.

Works, but the splash screen image has a big 'play' icon that looks like it should be clickable and isn't.

In Chrome on my N9 it displays a still image with a play button icon superimposed that then does absolutely fuck all if you tap it. ETA: I mean in general when I try to play gifv's on Imgur, I haven't tried here on Beex or anything.

What Craster said, I think. That should be fixed.

Oh, you might be out of luck, then. They do seem ropey as all fuck on a phone, but that could be because Imgur uses the massive gif file as a poster (the "still" image that's displayed before the video starts playing). Beex doesn't do that, so it might help.

They work fine both here on on Imgur itself on my phone but it was always my tablet that had the most trouble with them so I'll be curious to see if that has more success with your implementation. I did Google it a while back and it seems to be an issue for Chrome on certain devices which is a bit odd.

Just tried the gifv thing out and it works fine embedded in the forum but not if I go direct to Imgur so well done, you've implemented their thing better than they ever managed. The fannies.

I guess it must be in your profile settings.

I can put the upload stuff into 5 (maybe), but it would be missing other stuff. Do spoilers work, for example?

yeah, but I don't want to do that every time.

Plus that skin be ugly!

I can access spoilers, but there is no option to make them - I just write '[spoiler]', etc if I want to use BB code, but the upload feature would be useful.
